In the New York Times article "He’s 93; Sit Where He Tells You," a gallery owner displaying 93-year-old Danish designer Jens Risom's furniture admitted to experiencing a "full body shudder" when Risom's gallery furniture pieces (priced at around $6,000 a chair) were compared to the pieces, such as this Risom Arm Lounge Chair, currently on sale at a popular furniture store. Can you guess the name of the store?

Now there's another reason to stop being a couch potato. According at a study just published in the Environmental Health Perspectives journal flame-retardant chemicals used in many household products may be to blame for women's fertility issues.
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers, better known as PBDEs, are used in polyurethane foams and textiles, like sofas and rug pads, to slow the spread of fire.

The Horchow Damask Headboard ($849 for the king size) is named for its fabric's floral pattern, but it's the ruched trim and lovely curved top that truly make me swoon. Unfortunately, it's a little out of my price range. Luckily, there's a much more affordable alternative.

On the heels of my 10 Knockoff Designer Chairs From Overstock slideshow, I found a knockoff of noted midcentury Danish designer Hans Wegner's Wishbone Chair ($730), designed in 1949. The Wishbone Chair, also known as the CH24 Chair or the Y Chair, is a small, light armchair with a gracious shape and elegant Y-shaped back. It offers good support, is easy to move around in, and can be pulled up close to a table even though it has arm rests.

In San Francisco, it's common to see furniture abandoned on the street. Sometimes a Craigslist ad announces the furniture's presence, and sometimes it just randomly appears. While it's a good way to find free furniture, often this abandoned furniture poses a problem for garbage removal services.

Overstock.com makes a business out of selling surplus, returned, and new items which from the get-go are usually more affordable than the products at full retail in other stores. Top that with the fact that Overstock always ships for only $2.95 (even furniture), and you've got yourself one hell of a bargain. But just because something's cheap doesn't mean it's beautiful, right?

While I'd recommend storing any furniture that might be damaged by snow and moisture during the Winter months, there's definitely a great photo opportunity to be found in a pair of snowy rocking chairs. Unless your furniture is specifically built to withstand the elements, though, you might want to move it to the garage or basement. Source: Flickr User hoyasmeg

I've seen plenty of antique upholstered chairs at flea markets and thrift stores at affordable prices that are just begging for a makeover. But the trouble is that I don't have the time or the know-how to reupholster them myself. And the price to have them made over makes the deal not so cost-effective.

Lovely Little Vignettes member amandaruth2001 recently posted a photo of her lovely tufted green slipper chairs. Hear about her finds!
I have small children and a young dog and find that I can't really decorate with anything small or light enough to be carried away by any of them. This means I'm usually looking to larger items for color and form.

Before the advent of cordless phones (and cell phones and Bluetooth), a telephone was a stationary thing. Back then, the place to answer calls and chat was called "a gossip bench" — see photos here. This long-lost breed of furniture is one part table (to hold your telephone) and one part chair or bench.
