Geek Tip: Add Desktop Gadgets To Your iGoogle Page

The Google blogspot has just announced an upgrade to Google Desktops-which basically helps you pimp out your personalized Google page even more. If you have Google Desktop 5.5 Beta, you can now add desktop gadgets on your iGoogle homepage from the iGoogle Content Directory. All you have to do is click "add it now", drag them where you want them and press shift to show or hide each gadget. I don't know about you, but I can never have too many weather, horoscope and to-do list gadgets on my iGoogle page! via MashableDo you know a great shortcut or tip you think geeksugar readers should know? I know that this long list looks scary, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it'll be a snap the second time around.

First of all, join the 'How To' Help - Guide To All Things Geeky
Click "Create and Share!" on the left hand side
Choose "Blog"
Give your photo a Title
Leave the category as "general"
Change the channel to "technology and gadgets"
Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this photo was "Geek tip")
Click on the "Add Image" link below the "body" box
A popup window will happen - click on "Browse" to find your image on your computer
Once you have the image chosen, click "Submit"
The popup will show you your image, choose size: "normal" - if you want, you can give it a title (which will show up as a caption)
Click "Insert" and the popup will go away
Your "body" box will now have some text in it. Leave it as is. If you want to add some text before the picture telling me why you think this person is geeky, do it before the code that has appeared.
Click Submit

Geek Out: Do You Ever Miss Your Old Gadgets?

The other night I was on the hunt for my mini external speaker, and in my searching journey, I came across some old - very old - gadgets. What was supposed to be a two minute search, turned into me pulling everything out, reminiscing and having this nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Every gadget pictured here has a fun story behind it, and I couldn't help but think about each one. Every sentence in my head started with, "Oh that (insert device name), I remember when I got that." Like the BlackBerry for instance. Which just so happened to be my first BlackBerry that I managed to convince my parents was the most perfect graduation present anyone could ever ask for. My friends got trips to Cancun, I got a BlackBerry - I was over the moon.

What about you? Do you ever find an old cell phone or camera that you kinda miss? Or ones that bring back a ton of old memories?

Geek Out: Do You Charge Your Gadgets Before Your First Use?

I finally invested in the Clarisonic device that Bella has been raving about and rushed home to try it, only to find the instructions suggest charging the device for 24 hours before its first use. It was the ultimate luxury gadget letdown - all I wanted to do was test it, and I had to wait patiently.

Most battery experts claim you can prolong battery life by charging them fully before their inaugural use. It makes sense, but it's not always feasible (or fun!) to wait. Do you fully charge your gadgets before your first use?

Gadget Hipster Belt: Totally Geeky or Geek Chic?

How many gadgets do you carry on average? Would you ever consider carrying them in a special Hipster belt like this one? After all the gadget holsters I've seen in the past year, I can honestly say that this one is the least freakish. Featured on Chip Chick, this red nylon gadget belt can be used to hold your mp3 player, cell phone or camera in three storage pockets. Pockets can be moved and removed if you only need one or two. The Hipster is priced at $30 and comes in black or white as well if you aren't feeling the red. What are your thoughts? Stylin' or way too geeky?

Created by Etsy user JTstitches, the holder is one in a series of personalized gadget holders with machine embroidery of music notes and your "iName." The cases have a velcro closure and are made of black cotton fabric (other colors available).

What's better than shiny real gadgets?

Chocolate Gadgets of course.

The company that makes them is hoping consumers will want to "celebrate changing technology with chocolate cell phones, chocolate computers, chocolate microphones and chocolate computer accessories."

You can get a cell phone, iPod, remote, Blackberry, computer or mouse for about $3 each, but you have to buy in bulk. That's a lot of geeky chocolate.
