HBO2 Goes All-Carlin for Two Nights
HBO will pay tribute to comedian George Carlin this week by airing nothing but Carlin's comedy specials for two nights on HBO2.
The main HBO channel also will show one Carlin special — his most recent, It's Bad for Ya, which premiered in March — on Friday. In total, the networks will show 11 of his 14 specials, starting with Carlin's first (George Carlin at USC, from 1977) and ending with his last.

These days, most comedians swear like sailors and revel in shocking their audiences, but for standup comedy pioneers like George Carlin, who died yesterday of heart failure, swearing and shocking were not gratuitous. He wanted to shake up a hypocritical society and make people think about what "clean" language hides underneath it. (His famous "Seven Words You Can't Say on Television" routine got him arrested and went all the way to the Supreme Court, where they ruled that his language was "indecent" but not "obscene.") George Carlin will always be remembered as a comic genius.

George Carlin Passed Away
Sad news. According to ET, comedian George Carlin died this evening from heart failure. According to his publicist, the 71-year-old passed away in the early evening at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica.
