George Clooney Hopes For Peace In Darfur

If you follow New York Times columnist Nicolas Kristof on Twitter, you know George Clooney is currently visiting Darfur. Kristof shared with the Internet that he and George are currently not showering while they visit the war-torn region.

Tonight on NBC Nightly News, George shared his hopes for the region with Ann Curry. George said that he doesn't see much change in Sudan since he last visited three years ago.

In the years that have passed since that visit, the International Criminal Court's prosecutor requested a warrant for the arrest of Umar al-Bashir, the president of Sudan, alleging genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. Still Bashir remains in power and the genocide continues. George hopes that a little celebrity-induced attention will raise international awareness.

George Clooney to Help Ex-Pats Raise Money For Obama

George Clooney plans to host a fundraiser for Barack Obama . . . in Switzerland. On Sept. 2, guests will pay $1,000 to hear George speak in Geneva, Switzerland. After the chat, 75 lucky guests, willing to pay $10,000, will dine at the home of Charles Adams, a member of Obama's ~~International~~ National Finance Committee.

George isn't clueless of the pejorative "celebrity"-calling aimed at Obama. Back in March, he said that his own celebrity status could be a political liability to a politician like Obama. But I guess George's reluctance to campaign for his favorite politicians doesn't make him scared of raising money for them!

Even though he's staying off the stump, do you think news of George's fundraiser, in Europe no less, could hurt Obama?

Just yesterday I was talking about how Chris Pine is blowing up after the big success of Star Trek, and his name is already making headlines again this morning. Pine will likely be the next actor to take on the role of Jack Ryan in the next film adaption of the popular Tom Clancy novels. George Has a Gun but Won't Shoot Himself in the Foot

George Clooney slipped into his assassin character and grabbed a rifle to film scenes for The American in Italy yesterday. As he works on his newest movie in the beautiful countryside, his upcoming films are trying to avoid a Clooney box office traffic jam. Up in the Air's release date was moved back to December 4 from November 13 so as not to compete with George's Men Who Stare at Goats, which comes out November 6. Plus, The Fantastic Mr Fox hits theaters November 25, which means a lot of George on the horizon - lucky us!

George Keeps the Fun Festival Times Going

George Clooney arrived in Toronto yesterday afternoon, and last night he stepped out for dinner with friends at a mall in the city. He's still in film festival mode after his time in Venice promoting The Men Who Stare at Goats, though he's switching gears slightly now to premiere Up in the Air. Most of you guys weren't really loving the mustache he grew for Goats, but George looks like his normal bare-faced and handsome self now that it's time to show off both his finished products.

George's Film Festival Comedy and Singing Tour Rolls On

George Clooney arrived in Toronto via private jet yesterday, hopping from one film festival right to the next. He had his girl Elisabetta by his side at the Venice Film Festival premiere of The Men Who Stare at Goats, but he arrived solo in Canada. While in Europe he also kept crowds entertained with his antics, jokes, and even his singing voice. Now George is at TIFF to show off his other movie getting good press, Up in the Air - check out a new teaser trailer here. Back in Italy he's still playing gracious host by opening up his Lake Como home to Julia Roberts and her family while he's away.

George Rolls Up to Venice With a Bandage and Miss Elisabetta

George Clooney pulled up to the Venice Film Festival on a boat with his girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis yesterday. The lucky lady has been treated to George's luxurious life in Italy all Summer, apparently she's stayed around long enough to be his Venice plus one. George was sporting a bandage on his hand after slamming it in a car door a few weeks ago at his Lake Como house. While George was arriving to premiere Men Who Stare at Goats, another of his new movies - Up in the Air was wowing the audience at the Telluride Film Festival. Both movies will be released this Fall and it looks like we may get used to seeing Elisabetta as Mr. Clooney's consistent red carpet companion.

Things have been heating up between the couple as George introduces Elisabetta to his friends who visit his Italian home.
