A Good Idea or a Bad Idea: Long Distance Relationships

Long distance relationships aren't ideal but sometimes couples don't have a choice in the matter and they have to make the best of it. If you are living apart from your boyfriend or girlfriend, it's crucial to be as open and honest as possible in order to make it work since there is so much room for misunderstandings and jealousy. At the end of the day, they work for some people but for others, the distance is just too much to handle. I've done it before and I most likely wouldn't ever do it again, but what I want to know is, do you think it's a good idea or a bad idea to have a long distance relationship?

The Road: A Bleak Journey That Will Haunt You

It's not that I was expecting a film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's The Road to be happy sunshine - I just wasn't expecting it to seem so possible.

The apocalyptic tale takes place in a wasteland in the future after most humans are gone. It's desolate, the sky is a brownish-gray, and the land seems to be covered with ash. Unlike showy 2012, this is an end-of-the-world tale stripped down, which makes it all the more realistic and chilling.

We meet Man (Viggo Mortensen) and Boy (Kodi Smit-McPhee), a father and son making their way down south because they can't survive another Winter in this ominous setting. (Charlize Theron plays their wife and mother through a series of flashbacks). With a meager amount of food left on the planet, the select few people remaining (and there aren't many) will basically kill for supplies - or turn to cannibalism for sustenance. If this sounds like a horror film, it's because it pretty much is one. In fact, it's the worst, most plausible kind: one that explores the evils of humanity.

I'm sure many viewers won't be able to (or won't want to) stomach the subject matter, but the film is worth seeing thanks to the relationship between the father and son. In terms of plot, there isn't a ton that happens, and most of the action involves bumping into new strangers, like an elderly man (Robert Duvall) and a threatening gang. Some may find the lack of events monotonous, but this is why father and son are so important. Man is an average Joe who questions how far he'll go to keep Boy safe and what that means for his conscience; Boy is an innocent who still looks for good in people. The film obviously raises questions about the nature of who we are when tested - but the story is ultimately about their relationship.

As Man, Viggo Mortensen gives a mesmerizing performance that should bring his name up around awards season, and Smit-McPhee as his son is a great child actor, especially given the dark subject matter.

If you're a McCarthy fan or even just a fan of great acting, you'll want to check this one out. But, I'd suggest saving it for next week - after you find your Thanksgiving warm fuzzies somewhere else.

Stacey Skates With Dannii and Gets Close to X Factor Pal Olly

The X Factor's Stacey Solomon had a fun time yesterday, getting in to the Christmas mood by ice skating with Dannii Minogue at Somerset House, and then laughing with Olly Murs as the pair arrived back at the contestants' house after rehearsals. There have been rumours of a romance between the pair, which show choreographer Brian Friedman has denied, so perhaps they are just good friends. However, Stacey has apparently split with her on-off boyfriend, and she certainly thinks a lot of Olly, saying she would have quit the show if it wasn't for him. Olly's twin brother also said he wouldn't be surprised if a relationship developed.

Jude Prepares For Another Tell-All From the Women in His Life

Jude Law was smiling as he left a Midtown East office building with his assistant in New York yesterday, despite the news that his ex-wife Sadie Frost is reportedly planning a tell-all book. John Blake, the publisher, says: "You couldn't wish for more in an autobiography. We haven't discussed the finer detail, but we would expect it to contain pretty much everything. Sadie has a very good sense of humour and is very self-deprecating." Following Samantha Burke's revelations about her relationship with Jude in her interview with Hello, I would have thought Jude could do with a break, but as Sadie has publicly defended him recently it sounds like the former couple are on great terms. Patrick Dempsey Talks to Us About His Latest Scent

When Patrick Dempsey launched his first scent, Unscripted, late last year, I have to admit I was skeptical of another celebrity fragrance hitting the market. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle, clean scent, and even Mr. Bella - whose idea of a fun night out involves climbing mountains and camping in the woods sans showers - is a fan.

Patrick has been bitten by the fragrance bug once again. The launch of his latest scent, Patrick Dempsey 2 ($30), pays tribute to the intimacy between two people. (That's his wife in the ad campaign.) Expect to see at least two more fragrance launches from Patrick in the future, but in the meantime, check out my one-on-one interview (sigh) with the sexy actor when you read more.

Who Would You Rather See Quinn With?

Quinn Fabray was never one of my favorite characters on Glee. We all got to know Quinn as a somewhat selfish, stuck up star of the Cheerios, and head of the celibacy club who only joined the glee club to keep an eye on her boyfriend Finn Hudson. When everyone at William McKinley High School found out Quinn’s secret of being pregnant a lot changed for her, and since then her walls have come down and we have gotten to see a more vulnerable side to her.

The one thing still bothering me about Quinn is her lying about who’s her baby's real father. Which leads me to this question: Who should Quinn be with?

Finn Hudson: The captain of the football team and star singer in glee club. It’s not just Finn’s good looks that get the ladies attention - it’s the fact that he has a sensitive side that everyone gets to see. He sticks up for his outcast friends in glee club, and he never wants to let anyone down. The downside to Finn is he isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. I don’t think there are many high school students who would think it was possible to get your girlfriend pregnant without having sex.

Puck: (Real name Noah Puckerman) is the rebel jock football player who joins his friend Finn in the glee club. He has that signature mohawk and bad boy temperament but when it comes to his feelings for Quinn, he isn’t afraid to show her. Puck’s father is a “dead beat” and he doesn’t want to be that way which could be why we are seeing a softer side to him these days. Puck keeps showing an effort to be a part of Quinn’s life even though she keeps pushing him away.

Other: Maybe you think Quinn should be single and deal with this all on her own, maybe you think she should meet someone outside of glee and football to form a special relationship with, or maybe it’s just the support of all her good glee friends that help get her through the next several months of her pregnancy.

Taylor Lautner's Wet T-Shirt Rolling Stone Cover Debuts

Taylor Lautner has had a busy few months promoting New Moon, and his hard work paid off with their record-breaking opening weekend. His costars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are still doing their thing side-by-side, but Taylor is solo in his latest appearance - he's been on many magazine covers and the latest is December's Rolling Stone. We saw Taylor getting wet and wild on the beach during this photo shoot back in October, and today we get a sneak peek at the the hot shots and video from the magazine. He also opened up about Jacob and Bella's relationship, discussing their love triangle with Edward. Here's more:

On why Bella can't decide who to love: "You know, she's serious with Edward and then she meets best friend Jacob. She gets confused."
On why Jacob can't get behind Bella and Edward's relationship: "If I was Jacob, and I feel like I have lived as him, it gets so annoying. Because she's in the car with you one moment, about ready to kiss you and then leaves with Edward. And then she's back with you, you know?"
On his relationship with Bella after she says 'I love you': "Eclipse was actually my favorite of the series. It's the height of the love triangle. I think it's going to be good."

John Continues to Share All the Details

John Mayer was proud to show off his colorful tattoo sleeve on the December cover of Details. He's out and about talking about his latest album, Battle Studies, but in typical Mayer fashion John didn't only speak about business. Just like in his recent interview with the New York Times, John quickly got candid about his personal life. Here's more:

On his relationships with Hollywood's leading ladies: "You just never know who’s going to come into your life. To my mind, the only thing sicker than saying, 'Wow, you’re a famous person and it would do a lot for my career to go out with you,' is to say, 'Wow, you’re a famous person and I like you and all, but I can’t do that to my career.' I don’t think either of those is a good option."
On his unexpected collaboration with country star Taylor Swift: "I don’t know if you know, but I’m not exactly Bob Dylan - I’m already a pop musician . . . I want to reach as many people as possible."
His music vs. his celebrity persona: "Sometimes I feel like I do two things for a living. I make records and I talk to people. The record is much, much better than any interview I can give - you’ll walk away from the record liking me a hell of a lot more than you would walking away from an interview."

House Rundown, "Ignorance is Bliss"

With Cameron gone, the new (old) team is still working out the kinks in this week's House - and it feels like the writers aren't sure where the show's going either. The episode tackles a genius patient with what appears to be TTP, Thanksgiving, and House and Cuddy all in one swoop. And while the doc is back to acting like a selfish jerk following his recent good behavior, I didn't even find his quips that amusing. If anything, the episode felt like a downer!

Okay, so I know these are harsh words, so perhaps I'm not giving this week a fair trial. Let's go over the highlights, and tell me what you think when you read more.

The team gathers around the table to start hypothesizing, but to me it feels off without Cameron there. I'll give the writers the benefit of the doubt since it's the first week with the updated crew, but don't you agree?
We get it Chase - you're upset. He huffs and puffs and refuses invitations from Taub, Foreman, and Thirteen for friendly help. Then House refers to Cameron as Chase's "ex-smarter half" and gets punched. I want to be sympathetic to Chase because of his split from Cameron, but with that attitude? Forget it.
House needs to get Cuddy off the brain stat. He announces to Wilson that he's going to break up her relationship with Lucas, and then starts plotting ways to get invited to Thanksgiving dinner to see his plan through. Cuddy gives him the address where the meal is taking place, but (surprise!) the house is empty. I was shocked that she gave him faux info! Do you think it's too mean, or does he deserve it?
After being rejected, House gets drunk and breaks into Lucas's place to confess his love for Cuddy. Seriously. (He says to Lucas, "I'm pathetic," and I couldn't agree more.) The next day, Cuddy tells House that Lucas broke up with her over the incident - until we later find out that she's lying to get him to lay off. It seems like House might leave her alone by the end of the episode. Do you think he's finally giving up? And do you think his intoxicated act was real or fake? He tries to make it sound planned, but I'm not 100 percent sure.
While House and Cuddy were weighing down the show with sadder stuff, Taub and his wife brought a bit of comic relief. She's stopped sleeping with him, because she thinks he's a wuss for going back to House. But once Taub passes off a photo of House's black eye as his own handiwork – instead of Chase's - she basically jumps him!
The medical mystery involving a former genius who dumbs himself down, so he can love his "happy and dumb" wife (his words, not mine) is relatively interesting - even though I snarled at his comments about her stupidity. First they think he has TTP, but the problem is actually an old injury where he broke three ribs causing his spleen to split. Come on, 16 spleens?! I know I'm a dork, but that's pretty cool. Next time writers, less Cuddy skirt-chasing, more stuff like this.

Okay, so time for your assessment - what did you think of the episode? Isn't the House and Cuddy storyline starting to wear thin? (Even I'm over it, and I was rooting for them before!) And how do you like the team now that Cameron's dunzo?

I am involved with a married man and I don't know how to stop. He's been married for a couple of years, and his wife often goes out of town. I feel like I'm in a relationship with him: he calls or texts before he goes to sleep, cooks me dinner when he can, and we talk about almost anything with each other. I don't expect him to leave his wife for me, and it doesn't seem like he's going to. He just says he wishes we would have met before he got married. I know deep down that this is so wrong, but I feel like I can't do anything about it. I feel too happy when I'm around him. Help!

Dear The Other Woman,

I have some bad news and some good news. First, the bad news: you are not happy. You are in a relationship that is damaging to both you and this man's wife. The only person remotely benefiting from the situation is this unfaithful person you are involved with.

Now the good news: real happiness does exist. You can find someone - who's not married - to talk, laugh, cry, and have sex with. And it will be so much better. But first you need to do some work on yourself. Look at your life and decide what type of person you want to be. Do you want the adjectives selfish, dishonest, and disrespectful to describe who you are? Or would you rather have the words loving, faithful, and complete describe your behavior and your relationship? Next you need to boost your confidence. Think about what has made you do something that is undoubtedly so hurtful to yourself and this other woman. Is it because you are afraid of being alone? Is it because you think this is the best thing you can get? If so, let me tell you that a little patience can go a long way. Focus on the things you really enjoy in life (do you like running? painting? traveling?), the things that make you excited, and you will only become more desirable.

The search for love is a hard and frustrating one, but you are just going down a dark and depressing path with nothing but hurt waiting at the end of it. End things with this unavailable man, figure out why you love yourself, and then you will find someone who loves you for all those qualities too.
