Rihanna Wakes Up Early For a Rated R Morning

Rihanna headed to NYC after her weekend appearance at the American Music Awards, where she wore an outrageous onstage outfit. She's touring the world to support her album Rated R, and she was at a Best Buy last night to autograph copies and even pose for photos with a few lucky fans. This morning was an early one for Rihanna, as she headed out to appear on Good Morning America. She first did a run-through in her black coat, before stripping down to her embellished white blazer to perform and chat with Robin Roberts - check out the video after the jump.

Movie Preview: Amy Adams in Leap Year

You can rarely accuse a romantic comedy of being original, and the set up for Leap Year is no different. Amy Adams stars as Anna, a woman who's waiting for her boyfriend (Adam Scott) to propose when she learns that according to Irish tradition, women are "allowed" to propose to men on February 29, leap day. She chases him to Dublin and when she's diverted to Wales, meets a handsome stranger (Matthew Goode) who makes her rethink her scheme and relationship. Stop groaning.

I know the movie sounds cliche and sexist, yet I can't dismiss anything with Adams in it - her charm is just too powerful! Seriously, though, amid the mildly offensive plot details and too-familiar setting (how many times have we seen that stuck-in-the-road-while-cows-cross scene?), Adams still shines along with her freakishly dreamy foil, Matthew Goode. Leap Year comes out January 8, 2010.

Campbell's Chicken Noodle BPA-Leaching Soup

It's uncertain how risky bisphenol A (BPA) is to humans, but I figure better safe than sorry. I threw out my potentially risky water bottles and containers but now a new study from Consumer Reports says there's BPA in my canned goods, too. Metal cans are often lined with plastic that contains BPA to protect the food.

The magazine tested 19 canned food products, finding levels of BPA in each product, including cans labeled "BPA free." The biggest culprits were Progresso Vegetable Soup, Campbell's Condensed Chicken Noodle Soup, and Annie's Home Grown Organic Cheesy Ravioli. Though the FDA has said in the past that BPA is safe in food contact materials, it's now revisiting the issue to see if BPA exposure limits should be revised.

If you are concerned about the effects of BPA, try limiting or cutting out canned goods from your diet. Also, look for foods packaged in glass, paper, or freezer bags.

Curmudgeons, Rejoice: Being Grumpy Might Be Good For You!

Australian psychology professor Joe Forgas has concluded through his research that grumpy people tend to think more clearly, and because of their skepticism, they also make better decisions than their more cheerful and gullible counterparts.

Cheerfulness isn't all bad, though. Forgas says it encourages creativity. Bad moods, however, incite "attentiveness and careful thinking."

How did he figure this out? He asked volunteers to watch films while thinking of either positive or negative events in their lives, in the hopes they'd be put into good or bad moods.

Then, to test their powers of analysis, he had them judge the truth of urban myths and provide eyewitness accounts of events. The results: the grumps made fewer mistakes and were better at communicating.

"Whereas positive mood seems to promote creativity, flexibility, co-operation and reliance on mental shortcuts," said Professor Forgas, "negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world."

If you see a smile on my usually grumpy face today, it's temporary - I'm just gloating.

Casa Interview: The Good Wife's Stephen Hendrickson and Beth Kushnick

As I've mentioned in the past, I'm a huge fan of the new CBS series The Good Wife. In particular, I adore Alicia Florrick's (Julianna Margulies) apartment. With classic styling and great use of color, it's definitely a look I'm currently coveting. Luckily, I recently had the opportunity to chat with the two people responsible for the look of that very apartment. The Good Wife's production designer, Stephen Hendrickson, and set decorator, Beth Kushnick, answered my questions about the look of Alicia's home.

CasaSugar: How did the production designer and set decorator define Alicia (as a starting-over mom, lawyer, etc.), and how did this play into their concept of her new apartment?

Hendrickson and Kushnick: We defined Alicia as a working mom who wanted to make a comforting life for her kids as they had to downsize from a large house in the suburbs to a much smaller apartment which she purchased and had renovated. We kept some furniture from the old house like the kids' beds and the dining room furniture. In addition the show creators wanted to keep Alicia's king size bed as a visual - that it was too big for her new bedroom and show that one side of it was now empty. We also created a maid's room in the back of the apartment for all of her husband's belongings.

CasaSugar: How did Alicia’s style as a North Shore mom change when she moved into Chicago proper?

Hendrickson and Kushnick: Her new apartment had a sophisticated color palette . . . Alicia's apartment also has more contemporary living room furnishings and an upgraded kitchen.

Rihanna Breaks Her Silence and Speaks About Chris Brown

Rihanna has spoken for the first time about her incident with Chris Brown in February. Speaking to Diane Sawyer in an interview which will air in the States on Good Morning America on Thursday and on 20/20 on Friday, Rihanna says: "This happened to me. … It can happen to anyone" and adds that Chris "was definitely my first big love". She was later seen out about about in Manhattan, and has also opened up in the December issue of US Glamour magazine, as one of their Women of the Year, about how she coped in the aftermath:

On how the people around helped her cope: "My friends and family have been extremely supportive, and everyone has been there for me. But at some point you are there alone. It’s a lonely place to be-no one can understand. That’s when you get close to God."
On she has changed as a resut: "I’m stronger, wiser and more aware. You don’t realize how much your decisions affect people you don’t even know, like fans."
On how the public experience affected her: "It has taught me so much. I felt like I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears."
On what she would say to others in a similar situation: "Domestic violence is a big secret. No kid goes around and lets people know their parents fight. Teenage girls can’t tell their parents that their boyfriend beat them up. You don’t dare let your neighbor know that you fight. It’s one of the things we [women] will hide, because it’s embarrassing. My story was broadcast all over the world for people to see, and they have followed every step of my recovery. The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Now I can help speak for those women."

Patrick Dempsey Juggles Multiple Projects on GMA

Patrick Dempsey attended Reese Witherspoon's Avon benefit last night, and he was by the actress's side again today to appear on Good Morning America before heading out to do some shopping. Reese was on the show to chat about her new fragrance, while Patrick opened up about his own work with the cosmetics company as well as this season of Grey's Anatomy. He showed off a preview of tomorrow night's episode before going on to reveal that he's developing a new pilot with his wife based on her experiences in cosmetology school.

Reese Looks Good and Smells Great For GMA

Reese Witherspoon was up early today for an appearance on Good Morning America in NYC. She sat down to chat about her work with Avon, revealing that last night's star-studded Champions Who Change Women's Lives benefit raised over $2 million dollars to fight breast cancer and domestic violence. Reese also showed off her new fragrance In Bloom, which was inspired by her childhood in Tennessee. She didn't touch on her romance with Jake unlike in other recent interviews, but check out her whole chat in a video after the jump.
