The season premiere of Gossip Girl lived up to our expectations, debuting another round of drama and sin in the Hamptons. While there were lots of juicy details, I'll focus on the fashions of Blair Waldorf.

While most of the boys were off frolicking with new ladies, Blair was busy making Chuck jealous. What better way than by looking pretty and polished with a new boy, or shall I say, Lord, on her arm. Sassy of her to mix it up in a Milly leaf print dress and though you can't see them in the picture, Arturo Chiang patent woven pumps. To top it all off, a signature headband. Get him where it hurts, Blair!

In these tough economic times, my new favorite saying is "why buy when you can DIY?" As much as I adore fancy hair adornments, I can't always justify the cost of the pricey barrettes and bands I covet. (Sorry, Blair.) So, I headed to my local craft store and picked up enough goodies for several different projects. Up first: a couple lovely headbands created by moi. Head of the Class: How Was Your College Transition?

One day you're in, and the next day you're below New York's 14th Street where, as Blair puts it on last night's Gossip Girl, "there's no class system." Is anything going right for poor Blair on her first day of college? Her gift bags and maid fail to impress her dormmates; her archenemy is her roommate; and that sushi/sake party is an epic fail. Seems like the former queen bee of the Upper East Side is struggling to get her well-heeled foot in the doors of NYU.

Worst of all, rags-to-riches and former social outcast Dan and childhood friend Vanessa find instant popularity. This role reversal might force Blair to confront the age-old - or old-age! - question: have I already peaked?

Nah. She's way too narcissistic for such negativity. So despite losing her headband, which I am pretty sure symbolizes her crown, I am confident Miss Blair will find her way to the head of the class of 2013. Besides, if I remember college correctly, nothing that happens the first week stands for four years.

Black nail polish, headbands, and braids - three trends that have been going full force for at least the last two years. What would The Hills be without the braids or Gossip Girl without the embellished headbands, after all?

Rainy weather didn't stop Emma Watson from looking fresh-faced and chic at the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. In fact, the loose updo style, complemented with braids and a red hair accent, is perfect for beating warm-weather humidity.

Now, I realize many of you might be sick of hearing about braids and headbands, two trends that have been popular for some time thanks to the ladies of The Hills and Gossip Girl, but you've got to appreciate how Emma turned the look into something fresh. I Want This Wardrobe: '80s Flashback, Lily and Carol Rhodes

It's a blast from the past! Check out Lily and sister Carol in Gossip Girl's throwback episode. Aren't they adorable? We're used to seeing Lily polished in the present but as a teen, via Brittany Snow, she was all about color and fun thanks to costume designer Meredith Markworth-Pollack.

The bad girl paired her tiered polka-dot dress with pink Givenchy cut-out heels, lace leggings from Urban Outfitters, and a cropped asymmetrical jacket. Rad. Her sister Carol, aka Krysten Ritter, opted for a more vintage look wearing a nautical dress by Ya-Ya, Jordache jean jacket, white boots, yellow drawstring bag, and loads of accessories. I can only imagine the trouble these two caused. Oh, did I mention '80s heartthrob Andrew McCarthy will make an appearance as Lily's music-executive father? If you like what you witness in tonight's episode, keep your eyes peeled for producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage's untitled Gossip Girl spinoff, which follows the crazy life of 17-year-old Lily in Los Angeles, circa 1983.

Since it can still be cold in NYC, Georgina layers on a maroon coat by Nanette Lepore, black tights, dusty pink scarf, and matching pink headband. Ferocious Christian Louboutin pumps, leather gloves, and textured tote complete her agenda.

While we're still seeing everything from satiny flowers to wispy feathers (hello, Gossip Girl), metallic headbands are also ruling the fashion scene. Although we haven't seen Mischa Barton wearing her signature style as of late, she does carry a line of headbands in collaboration with accessories designer Stacey Lapidus. As for the hair accessories business, Mischa's not alone. Nicole Richie's House of Harlow 1960 collection includes metallic headpieces, which she told Pop were her favorite of the line. Then there's Paris Hilton. She has her perfume line to keep her busy, but that doesn't stop her sporting this Grecian-like adornment in sparkly silver tones.
