Gossip Girl Spinoff vs. Body Politic: Which Would You Watch?

Though they didn't make the Fall schedule, the Gossip Girl spinoff and the Minka Kelly/Jason Dohring show Body Politic are reportedly still alive - if barely - at the CW. The shows are both theoretically in contention for a midseason spot (though the CW's boss has said they'd really like that spot to be the spinoff's). Now, we've already seen a little of what the spinoff could be, and some clips of Body Politic have hit the web. So check out both options and tell me: if only one could make the schedule, which of these shows would you rather watch?

I'm not sure that the Gossip Girl spinoff (previewed on the show last night) about Serena's mother, Lily Rhodes, will have enough tech in it to warrant a weekly tech quiz like its mother show, but maybe its '80s setting will have some of the Me Decade's coolest vintage technology. Most of you were at least a little excited to see Gossip Girl introduce its potential Lily spinoff on Monday. Well, now that we've seen the sample scenes, do you think the show could work as a series? Or is this one trip to the '80s that you'd be just as happy to cut short?

I Want This Wardrobe: '80s Flashback, Lily and Carol Rhodes

It's a blast from the past! Check out Lily and sister Carol in Gossip Girl's throwback episode. Aren't they adorable? We're used to seeing Lily polished in the present but as a teen, via Brittany Snow, she was all about color and fun thanks to costume designer Meredith Markworth-Pollack.

The bad girl paired her tiered polka-dot dress with pink Givenchy cut-out heels, lace leggings from Urban Outfitters, and a cropped asymmetrical jacket. Rad. Her sister Carol, aka Krysten Ritter, opted for a more vintage look wearing a nautical dress by Ya-Ya, Jordache jean jacket, white boots, yellow drawstring bag, and loads of accessories. I can only imagine the trouble these two caused. Oh, did I mention '80s heartthrob Andrew McCarthy will make an appearance as Lily's music-executive father? If you like what you witness in tonight's episode, keep your eyes peeled for producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage's untitled Gossip Girl spinoff, which follows the crazy life of 17-year-old Lily in Los Angeles, circa 1983.

Are You Excited For Your First Look at the Gossip Girl Spinoff?

We've followed the news, weighed in on the casting, and flipped through the photos. Now, tonight, we get our first televised look at what could be the Gossip Girl spinoff. It's time to see how Gossip Girl does '80s!

The episode is split between present-day New York and '80s Los Angeles. In New York, Lily and Serena fight over Serena's recent brush with the law; in Los Angeles, a young Lily (Brittany Snow) heads home after getting kicked out of boarding school. Also, it's prom night in NYC, which should mean interesting things for the rest of our Upper East Siders.

Rumors have been flying about the spinoff's possible demise, but a CW insider tells us those reports are preposterous, as the network doesn't even start programming meetings till this week. (The CW will announce its Fall schedule on May 21.) I'm wondering: Are you excited for your first look at this potential new series?

Will You Be Disappointed If the Gossip Girl Spinoff Doesn't Get Picked Up?

We've heard a lot about a Gossip Girl spinoff focusing on the life of young Lily, and next week we will get to see a sneak peek at the potential new show. Now it sounds like the series may not get picked up after all - apparently the show's fate is up in the air after mixed reviews, and there may not be enough room for it in the CW's Fall lineup. So tell us - will you be disappointed if the spinoff doesn't get picked up?

First Look: Gossip Girl Goes '80s in These "Valley Girls" Photos

The '80s are coming! The '80s are coming! You have to get a load of these photos from the upcoming Gossip Girl episode that could launch next Fall's spinoff starring Brittany Snow as young Lily Rhodes.

We've seen the poster, but these are actual scenes from the May 11 episode. Executive producer Josh Schwartz explains how this episode, titled "Valley Girls," will introduce the new characters (including Andrew McCarthy as Lily's father and Krysten Ritter as Carol, Lily's older sister): "It'll be flashbacks that will sort of illustrate a crisis. It will resonate thematically with something that will be happening inside that episode."

I'm so intrigued! For now we'll have to settle for some radical visuals with the new show's stars decked out in '80s fabulousness - plus No Doubt performing as fictional band Snowed Out.

There's a first glimpse at Russell Crowe in Ridley Scott's Robin Hood and two images from Peter Jackson's film adaptation of The Lovely Bones. Ashlee Simpson and Libby From Lost Nab Jobs at the CW

The CW has two pretty high-profile spinoffs in the works for the Fall TV season - one of Gossip Girl, one of Melrose Place - and over the past couple of days, they've gotten busy adding some big names to their casts:

Ashlee Simpson has nabbed a role in the Melrose Place spinoff, returning to the network that gave her a breakout job on 7th Heaven. In Melrose, she'll play Violet, "a bright-eyed but shrewd small-town girl and recent LA transplant who has come to town with a secret." She joins Michael Rady and Katie Cassidy in the ensemble.
Meanwhile, Cynthia Watros, aka Libby from Lost, will play Celia "CeCe" Rhodes in the Gossip Girl spinoff, tentatively titled Lily. She'll be the '80s version of awesome grandma CeCe played by Caroline Lagerfelt in the present-day GG. Meanwhile, the show has also added Ryan Hansen (Dick from Veronica Mars) as Shep, who's got a futile crush on Lily's sister, Carol (Krysten Ritter).

So, what do you make of Ashlee's return to full-time acting? And could you imagine Cynthia Watros, Brittany Snow, Kelly Rutherford, and Blake Lively all being related?
