Chantecaille Launches Sylvie Personal 2009 Autumn Collection

Just out is the latest launch from Chantecaille called Sylvie Personal Collection. The range consists of four new products in the purple family (a popular colour trend this season) and was inspired by Sylvie Chantecaille, the founder of the brand. It is intended to be a fashion forward range for the chic and sophisticated, stylish city woman with gunmetal packaging and simple yet strong colours. The range isn't overly exhaustive, but I think the items are well chosen and it manages to pack a lot of punch.

The star product is of course Sylvie's Personal Palette (£75) which contains three powder shadows in a matte vanilla shade, a shimmery fawn brown, a brown-plum colour and a medium pink blusher, each embossed with a signature Chantecaille rose - a pretty and feminine touch (don't you think)? The shadows can be worn wet or dry and are although the colours are soft, they are rich in pigment so they show up better than you'd expect.

Lip Chic in Heirloom (£24) is a brand-new, rich, creamy and deep berry shade that gives you the even and heavy coverage of a lipstick, but you also get the high shine and plumping effects of a gloss as it contains collagen give lips an extra added fullness.
Le Stylo in Dark Brown (£21) is an amazing and long-lasting liquid liner that's housed in an easy to use, super precise marker form. This dark brown shade is slightly softer than black and looks great on all skin tones.
Luminous Eye Liner in Viola (£19) is a dramatic purple-brown liquid eyeliner that contains pearls and tons of pigment that create a bold line on your eyes.
As I described earlier, Sylvie's Personal Palette (£75) contains three nuetral eye shadows and a medium pink blusher, each embossed with an image of a delicate rose.

Love It or Hate It? Peaches Goes Purple

Last night in East London, Peaches Geldof partied with her mates with newly goth-inspired purple hair and chipped metallic blue nail varnish. I'm quite used to seeing a more reserved side of peaches with blonde or brunette hair, so this dye job came as quite a surprise to me. Inspired: Cassie's Edgy Take on Crochet

Singer Cassie rocked an edgy, punk crochet look at the BET Awards last night. I love how glam the lacy pattern looks in black, and Cassie's punk-inspired half-shaved head accentuates the singer's beauty while letting fans know that she's not to be trifled with. Inspired, I set out to find some similar looks.

Of course, my hero Tord Boontje would have a lamp that would fit Cassie to a T. His Artecnica Come Rain Come Shine Light ($4,950) has the same lacy, edgy glamour as Cassie's BET Awards ensemble.

Website du Jour: Goths in Hot Weather

When I think of hot weather, I think skirts, sandals, and a hint of bronzer. The website Goths in Hot Weather pays tribute to dedicated "sunshine goths" who couldn't care less about the comfort of Summer fashions. They prefer black leather, clunky boots, and a drugstore's makeup aisle worth of makeup, no matter the season.

The site honors the goths by featuring quite lovely photos of them struggling with the sun. Each photo gets a "gothiness" and "sweatiness" rating.

I imagine it would be much easier to be a goth in Seattle, compared to humid and hot Florida. I commend these goths in hot weather for staying true to themselves even in inconvenient climates! At least they won't ever get sun damage.

Love It or Hate It? The Berry Beautiful Runways of Milan

The sexy vampiress look is coming back again for Autumn '09. As we see on the womenswear catwalks of Italy at the Moschino Cheap & Chic, Frankie Morello and Luciano Soprani shows, a deep berry, almost bloody lip style is all the fashion. I happen to like this edgy alternative to a classic red lip, but it's certainly not something everyone feels comfortable pulling off. What are your thoughts on a dark lip stain: could you handle looking once bitten or are you too shy?

FABTV: The Cure "Lullaby"

No video beats Michael Jackson's Thriller when it comes to Halloween time, and time in general - it is an eternal masterpiece. But I did my best to dig up another spooky vid. Spooky bands . . . hmmm, The Cure! No one is the goth master like Robert Smith and his teased black hair, chalky skin, and trembling voice. This is my favorite Cure song, though I kinda hate the video - it has a spider theme and I hate spiders. So I apologize if you do too and are watching this with a Halloween hangover. Alas, it's an ill song, where Smith gets invaded by an elusive Spiderman character. Cobwebs and creepy crawlers abound - hope you had a Fab Halloween!

How To: Bargain Beauty Grunge Goth

Grunge goth beauty was never supposed to be about the money, so what's with this season's Glam Goth makeup looks (not to mention clothes, thanks Luella) costing so much? I'm not one for scrimping and saving on makeup, but as we are sliding into a recession it makes sense to worry our pretty little heads about prices, every now and then.

Cue my credit crunch-friendly pick of the best products to get autumn/winter's soft goth look, on the cheap. At my sister, the Blonde's, punk party last weekend, I tested the high street's selection of gothic offerings, putting them through their paces with a night that included not only jumping on the sofa to the Ramones I Wanna Be Sedated, but also making, consuming and then cleaning up after numerous vodka jellies. Yes, my nail polish was chipped, but that black eyeshadow didn't budge.

EYE LINER Dark, coal-black eyes are the mainstay of this look and I tested the superb Boots Natural Collection Liquid Eye Lines, (£1.99) The colour was glossy and severe, plus it looked freshly applied all night (and the next morning) long. Ten out of ten.
NAILS We all wore Rimmel 60 Second nail varnish, in Black Out, (£1.99) and it chipped to varying degrees. The Blonde's nails looked suitably chipped and tatty after a day of cleaning the house, pre-party, whilst mine chipped after about 24 hours, which is not great but I quite liked the Olsen twin-esque grunge appeal. The polish is super-shiny too, like black vinyl, and it really does dry in 60 seconds.
LIPS Finding a black lipstick on the cheap proved super-tricky. Me and the Australian Peaches Geldof trawled the high street and finally found the incredibly bargainous Superdrug Miss Sporty lipstick in Extreme Black, (£1.99). I wish I has something nice to say it about it but frankly even Sid Vicious would have been disappointed with the texture and application. It was patchy and thin. Finally, I layered it with a more expensive plum lipstick, (£14) Lip Sheer by Bobbi Brown, which created a dramatic, goth lip.
EYE SHADOW I copied the models at the Lanvin show, and applied black shadow right up to my brows, and wide across the cheekbones. In truth, I looked like a grungy alien, so this is perhaps best for fancy dress only. Boots No17 shadow, in Darkness, (£2.99), was slightly chalky in texture, but applied thickly, in layers, it had the right dramatic vibe. Plus it lasted extremely well with no creasing or flaking.
FACE A whiter shade of pale is the aim of the game, goth-wise. Go for one to two shades lighter than your usual foundation and skip the blusher. Max Factor Flawless Perfect Foundation, (£12.99), in the palest shade, Cream Ivory, made me look other-worldly but not like a clown.

Who Wore It Better? Goth Givenchy

Here we have two girls gone goth. By now we've seen Madonna in her Givenchy goth ensemble from the Fall collection a couple times. But how does she look compared to Jennifer Lopez, who's currently vacationing with hubby Marc? While Madonna kept hers authentic with over-the-knee boots and a fur coat, Jennifer glamorized her version with circle earrings and gold jeweled sandals. Leave it to Lopez to glam up goth! Madonna's look is more runway ready, while Jennifer's is club appropriate. Whose take is better? Side note: I tried on that hot Givenchy necklace, but it's a backache waiting to happen.

The palette is poisonous, the inspiration's the teenage goth look, and the result? Next season's hottest beauty trend – Goth Glam or Soft Goth.

From Lanvin (pictured), to Chanel, Fendi and Vivienne Westwood – the runways were stormed by glamorous goths, with deadly nightshade-esque makeup.
