But since we're in the heart of apple harvesting season and Halloween is upon us, I figured there had to be another way to do the whole apple bobbing thing without transferring communicable disease. Love It or Hate It? Rihanna's Gaelic Green Nails

Rihanna and her green nails are just a little bit late for St. Patrick's Day, but that's all right. The star got up close and personal with her young fans after performing a benefit concert last night at a Chicago club. You voted that you (overwhelmingly) liked her black nail polish over any of the other wild and crazy colors that she's worn recently, and now you've got another shade to choose from. Bellissima! Duri Hot Ice Nail Polish

Don't you just hate it when you take off your nail polish to find that it's completely turned your nail base yellow or stained? Here's a quick fix. Duri Cosmetics Nail Polish in Hot Ice ($3.99) is a pale greenish-bluish nail polish that can double as a base coat, so any pre-existing tarnish that you have on your nails and toes won't distort your new color.

The concept is similar to tinted foundations, and colored concealers where the slightest tint neutralizes any discolorations. I love this idea, especially now that all these bright reds, raspberries, dark blues and blacks are back-all of which tend to leave stubborn, unwanted traces behind.

I tried to find an exact match for Zulu, but this ain't the '90s, and green nail polish is hard to find. I did manage to find three greens that are in the general family, so take a look:

Can't Get Your Hands on Chanel Jade Green? You've Still Got Options.

Every year, there seems to be a highly coveted nail polish shade or two that hits the market with a frenzy. One example is last year's Metro Chic ($8) from Sephora by OPI, a perfectly muted smoky purple. Another example is Chanel's Le Vernis Nail Color in Vamp, so popular, in fact, it even has its own Wikipedia entry.

This year, there's a big to-do with another Chanel shade. The brand's Jade ($25), a green with a slightly hazy undertone, sold out almost immediately after it launched in September. In fact, it's now going for some pretty crazy prices on eBay - upwards of $117. Wowza. But that doesn't have to stop you from wearing an almost-identical match. While some of the options below might not be exact replicas, they're pretty close. Have you tried any of these Jade Green dupes yourself? Which ones are your favorites?

How Do You Sample Nail Polish?

Yesterday I took a little jaunt down to Sephora to check out some new nail polish shades. I was fixated on the bluish-green-toned Ocean Love Potion ($9), perfect for that oceanic nail trend we've been seeing as of late. After looking through the display case for my new favorite turquoise shade, I noticed a small sign: "Please do not paint on fixture." Although I question the idea of trying out polish on your nails in the first place, isn't it just as bad to create visual clutter, particularly when specifically instructed not to do so? What's your try-it-on philosophy?

Take a Peek at the Trendiest Nail Polish Collections For Fall

As far as Fall nail polish trends are concerned, I foresee lots of hot pinks, mushroom tones, smoky metallics, burnt oranges, deep, intense greens, and the return of purple - but with a little less smoke and a little more attitude. As far as textures go, think mattes, creams, and brushed, velvety finishes. But, if you're a fan of the shimmer, don't fret. There's plenty of sparkle to go around. Like most makeup collections, nail polish colors take inspiration straight from the runways, and since nails are a fashion accessory, after all, many of these recently launched polish shades come straight to us from the Fall catwalks. Let's just say I'm not bored.

All Aboard! The Nars 2009 Autumn Colour Collection Is Here

Not only does this year mark the 15th anniversary for Nars Cosmetics, but last Monday was the highly anticipated launch of the brand new six-item Autumn 2009 Colour Collection. The inspiration behind the goodies came from none other than the young and precocious icon, Lolita. François Nars was "looking for a model who could represent the modern, independent woman, but who also had a girlish, innocence about her."

It's funny, because I thought the ad campaign doll looking model was Lily Donaldson, but it's actually a Canadian beauty named Heather Marks whose career began in 2003 with Givenchy. The photographs were taken in New York City by François Nars himself, and Heather is wearing the products from the '09 line whose names incidentally were influenced by Nars' pursuits and interests, yet they don't necessarily have any direct correlation to Lolita.

My favourite product is a nail varnish called Tokaido Express (£12.50). From a distance it looks black, but up close it's a purple shade with gold flecks that look rich, exciting and ridiculously chic. Wearing this polish is akin to wearing a fabulous cuff or statement piece.

Fast Ride Lipstick: (£17) is an edgy, dark mulberry (and totally intimidating lipstick) that falls somewhere between an intense stain, and a gothy purple. What I love is its that the sheen keeps it looking fashion forward and seductive.
Mekong Single Eyeshadow: (£15) is a must for those with green or hazel eyes. The black-brown shadow contains rose gold flecks that make green eyes pop!
Silk Road Duo Eyeshadow: (£23) is a new pair of powder shadows that were influenced from traditional damask fabrics. One side houses a frosty pink whilst the other side is a rosey gold with golden shimmer.
Brumes Duo Eyeshadow: (£23) is another new powder shadow duo that has a matte charcoal shade one side (great as a liner or for the ultimate smoky eye) and the other side is a sparkly sky blue hue.
Indian Summer Duo Eyeshadow: (£23) is the most fashion forward of the eyeshadow pairs. Inside there's a frosted khaki shade beside a bold, matte, mustardy colour.
Tokaido Express Nail Polish: (£12.50) is black-plum varnish enhanced with finely milled gold sparkles and is named after Japan’s famed high-speed railway. From afar you'd think it's black, if you look a little bit closer, it's far more interesting!
