Part five of my six part series on makeup brush hair is about squirrel hair. This type of hair is durable, fine, thin and has a thick belly with a fine tip — that's where it gets its conical shape. Also, it's the softest natural hair used in makeup brushes.

Sable is the most durable and soft hair used in makeup brushes. They should be viewed as an investment since they'll last a lifetime if you take proper care of them. There are three types of sable brushes: Kolinsky is the highest quality, then red sable and then just plain sable.

I have many friends who work in the beauty industry who must follow controlled makeup and hair policies. For instance, my friend, who works at a cosmetics store, is required to wear at least three makeup items from the company's makeup line. No competitor's perfume is allowed, and her hair is always supposed to look "professional and presentable."

Okay, this isn't technically makeup, but since it's still in the beauty genre I thought it was relevant. Hair conditioner and hair masks can also be used as shaving cream. I realize that it doesn't foam or even lather really, but it does create a smooth, slippery surface that helps prevent nicks and scrapes from razor blades.
