In the '90s, one hairstyle reigned supreme: the Rachel. When Jennifer Aniston debuted this layered bob for Friends, it seemed like half the women in America followed suit. It truly is the era's iconic haircut.

Years ago, when hair expert Keneesha Hudson allowed her curly locks to go natural, it proved to be a positive experience. "I feel a great sense of freedom wearing my own hair," she told me. "It definitely has a much more organic feel to it.

Faking a shorter haircut by means of skillfully placed hair pins is nothing new. In fact, we saw Rosario Dawson do her own faux-crop late last year, followed by Nicole Kidman's asymmetric version. In recent times, the look has taken on resurgence in popularity, as celebrities have been tricking us out with their own adaptations, giving the appearance of freshly cut locks.

Last night at the Toronto Film Festival, singer Eve arrived on the red carpet showing off a daring new hairdo. We've seen just how popular the shaved on the side undercut haircut can be, but Eve has created her own take on this look by leaving the top and back long and the sides slightly longer than shaven. It's kind of a mohawky-mullet style that I'm not sure just anyone can pull off, but leave it to Eve to look hot even with questionable hair.

While "The Rachel" had a much-coveted reputation back during the Friends days, Kate Gosselin's reverse mullet, also popular in its own right, is a bit more notorious. Besides Lady Gaga's extreme looks as of late, I don't recall a hairstyle as talked about since Jennifer Aniston circa 1996. Gosselin's unique cut has been the topic of much mockery throughout the year.

Back in July, we saw Cassie with etches on the shaved side of this disconnected haircut, but tonight she's keeping that side soft and smooth, letting the longer part stand out with a little curl and some rolled texture. While it might seem like she doesn't have a whole lot of options with this distinctive cut, as evidenced by tonight's look, she most certainly does. Someone give kudos to Cassie's stylist for creating two looks in one.
