Bunny Hop Your Way to a Happy Easter

I just wanted to share a couple of my favorite versions of bunny hops with you. Remember doing bunny hops on your bike when you were a kid? Well maybe not quite as high as the one pictured here...but I have to show this 'cause I think it is so cool. Here's a refresher on hopping your bike. It is easier on a BMX bike so you might need to borrow one from a little kid if you don't happen to have a BMX bike of your own. Now, if you are going to attempt this trick, please wear a helmet. Thank you.

Now on the slightly tamer side of life is the dance. Who didn't do the Bunny Hop when you were little? Who still remembers how to do it? Here's a little refresher in case you have forgotten the moves. It is not complicated, but it is sure to make you giggle.

Come Party With Me: Easter - Drinks

Easter is this Sunday and naturally I am busy as a bunny prepping for a feast with my family. Easter is a wonderful holiday because you get to celebrate the refreshing beauty that is spring. Symbols of rebirth - crisp greens, sunny yellows, fresh herbs, blooming flowers, round eggs - will be the underlying theme of this weekend's party. Dainty Easter eggs inspired the invitations and I've come up with 2(!) delicious menus for a fabulous meal. Unlike Thanksgiving when everyone celebrates with a dinner, Easter is a holiday that is either celebrated with a brunch or a dinner - so in an attempt to really help each and every one of my readers, I've planned both. For the brunch: If you have access to an espresso machine, use it! Offer guests cappuccinos, americanos, or espressos. Fresh squeezed orange juice is another must, if you don't have a juicer get a nicer quality pulpy OJ such as Odwalla. Water, sparkling and still, is a must. Mimosas are a classic brunch cocktail but Blood Orange Bellinis are an elegant alternative especially if you make them with fresh squeezed blood orange juice. Harvey Wallbangers are a more festive choice than the regular old screwdriver. However if you want to make a new, unique cocktail specifically for the brunch try a sparkling combination of white wine and chambord in the form of a chambord spritzer.

Chambord Spritzer
From Gourmet magazine

1 ounce Chambord (black raspberry-flavored liqueur)
1 1/2 ounces white wine
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
Chilled seltzer or club soda
A twist of lemon peel for garnish

In a tall glass combine the Chambord, the wine, the lemon juice, and 4 ice cubes.
Fill the glass with the seltzer and stir the drink. Garnish it with the lemon peel.

Serves 1.

For the dinner: At Easter dinner you must offer several bottles of wine. A rosé will complement the rosy pinkness of the ham because it has the refreshing crispness of a white wine, as well as the medium body of a dry red wine. For those whose hearts are set on pouring a red choose a cru Beaujolais, a varietal that I've heard a lot about lately whose rich complexity will pair nicely with the ginger ale glazed ham. Other options include Pinot Noir or Burgundy or a Chenin Blanc if you are looking for a white wine. Water, both sparkling and still, should flow freely from large pitchers strategically placed around the dining table. Fresh grapefruit juice mixed with your favorite lemon lime soda and a splash of lime juice makes a nice non-alcoholic option. Offer one specialty cocktail as an after dinner dessert drink. An Easter Bunny is a tasty vodka-chocolate-cherry combination that will be the finish to a wonderful evening.

Easter Bunny
From Drinks Mixer

1 1/2 oz dark creme de cacao
1/2 oz vodka
1 tsp chocolate syrup
1 tsp cherry brandy

Shake creme de cacao and vodka with ice.
Strain over ice in an old-fashioned glass.
Float chocolate syrup and cherry brandy.

Serves 1.

Have Some Family Fun With the Easter Words iPhone App

Happy Easter everyone! Hopefully you are able to spend some quality time with loved ones today.

If you're around kids at all today (and even if you're not) you can download the Easter Words app for the iPhone. Kinda like Hangman, Easter Words makes you guess words from an Easter-themed vocab and when you get the words correct, an Easter egg will slowly appear (there are four different designs).

Easter Words can be downloaded for free from the iTunes store.

Plan Ahead For the Perfect Easter Basket

Easter goodie aisles at drug, craft and grocery stores are overflowing with robin eggs and chocolate delights, but if you'd rather bring home a bunch of bunnies then give your children a basketful of candy - the secret to Easter basket success is planning ahead and purchasing one medium sized treat (like a stuffed animal or book that's under $20) and a few healthy snacks or mini toys.

Aim for an inexpensive basket like this festive Colored Easter Basket ($6) from Pottery Barn Kids. If you don't want to make a mess skip the fake grass and use tissue paper.

Ben Celebrates the Life He Loves With Jennifer and Violet

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck shared a kiss yesterday on their way out of a friend's Easter party in LA. They looked happy getting in the holiday spirit with Violet, though baby Seraphina stayed home after her big outing on Friday. Ben had his bags packed for a trip to Boston, where's he's currently filming The Company Men. His political thriller State of Play is first to hit screens this weekend, but playing a congressman hasn't inspired a career change. He recently said, "I also like my life. I like it more than I ever have. I loved doing this movie. I don't have any desire to step outside of that at any time." With three gorgeous girls back at home, it's easy to see why Ben's so content.
