Product Review: Lush Happy Hippy Hair and Body Gel

I get a lot of questions and comments from readers who love Lush, the British bath and body brand that incorporates fresh fruits and natural ingredients into its handmade products. I run hot and cold on Lush - I like the concept, but some of its soaps are just too fragrant.

However, I recently tried some Lush Happy Hippy Hair and Body Gel, and it will be a very handy addition to my beauty arsenal. The Happy Hippy bottle calls this a "hair and body" gel, which intrigued me, so read more

I thought: If I can find a soap that works as a shampoo too, that's one less bottle to pack on vacation. And Happy Hippy really does do double duty. The gel works into an incredibly thick lather that fills your shower with an invigorating grapefruit scent that's neither too overpowering nor too girly. Using it didn't feel like bathing in shampoo, and my hair got just a clean as it normally would with a proper hair product.

I wouldn't say the Happy Hippy totally wowed me, but it's a wonderfully scented and very serviceable product. The gel is available in a 3.3-ounce bottle ($8.50), an 8.4-ounce bottle ($15.95), and a 16.9-ounce bottle ($24.95).

Grey's Anatomy Rundown, "Holidaze"

As evidenced in my holiday TV sneak peek, this week's episode of Grey's Anatomy puts the doctors on a fast track that starts on Thanksgiving eve and runs through New Year's Eve. As we all know by now, the Seattle Grace surgeons aren't always big on merriment, but the holidays are always the perfect time to bring out the truth in feelings and relationships.

Meredith bonds with the Chief while Mark learns that he has a teenage daughter. Bailey has a confrontation with her father and Teddy and Owen's sexual tension comes to a head. To read all about it, just read more.

As the episode opens, the Chief is trying to justify his drinking to Meredith - explaining that his alcoholism was "misdiagnosed" and that he was actually suffering from situational depression. (Um, right.) It's unclear whether Mere takes his word for it because she believes him or feels like she has to, but she accepts his mentorship. Later she bites off Thatcher's head when he suggests that the Chief shouldn't be drinking, and by NYE realizes that he does have a problem, but continues to keep it a secret. There is one good thing that comes from it: Derek and the Chief finally make amends after duking it out all season.
Bailey does her best to avoid acknowledging the holidays because she's afraid to tell her parents about her divorce. Instead, she gladly dives into work - until her father makes a surprise visit on Christmas Eve. After watching Miranda perform surgery, he delivers a way harsh speech about being ashamed of her decision to "break" her family and put work first. At Christmas dinner (with the whole Seattle Grace crew, no less), Miranda finally puts her foot down and tells her dad that she's not willing to settle for a bad relationship. Did anyone else want to slow clap, at this point? Because I did.
Mark gets a blast from the past when a buxom blonde appears at the hospital claiming to be his daughter. (I kind of love that her name is Sloan). Mark isn't exactly thrilled with feeling old, joking that "death has come to call." Lexie is also troubled by the news at first, and I couldn't blame her for slicing her finger when Mark drops the bomb that Sloan is moving in. Two months later, he hasn't made any progress, and it's clear that his daughter isn't exactly a cup of tea. Just when Mark finally gets the nerve to kick her out, Sloan reveals that she's pregnant with a baby of her own. Instead of contemplating his potential grandpa status (talk about feeling old), Mark's paternal instincts kick into gear with impeccable timing and he comforts her. Sidenote: I find it interesting that Mark handles the situation exactly how Quinn wished her parents had on Glee this week - stroking her hair, assuring her that everything would be okay.
Teddy is already coming between Cristina and Owen's relationship, even if just with pages. Still loving her new cardio god, Cristina is happy to be Teddy's bitch (as Alex calls her) and work as a team - until she catches Owen giving Teddy meaningful glances. Owen confronts Teddy and reveals that he had feelings with her when they were overseas together, and in turn Teddy confesses that she's always been in love with him. They are literally this close to kissing, but Owen says he loves Cristina and runs to her instead. Despite their passionate makeout sesh at the end of the episode, I still have an ominous feeling about Cristina's kiss with Avery (who is still giving her flack about her relationship with Owen).

Robert, Kristen, Taylor and the Whole New Moon Cast Hit the Red Carpet at Their Big LA Premiere!

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner were the last New Moon stars to arrive on the red carpet in LA last night, but the crowds were happy to wait for the big three! They all looked fantastic - especially Kristen in her gorgeous Oscar de la Renta and sexy hair, who stopped to talk about how happy she was to be at an event with the fans. She said she doesn't have a favorite of all the hot dresses she's worn while out promoting the movie, but fell in love with this one when she saw it. Robert greeted all the fans with a huge smile, excitedly signing autographs for as many people as he could. He flashed an adorable smile to us when they announced Kristen's arrival right behind him, though the two were spread out and didn't pose on the red carpet together. The signs all over the event were amazing, showing the dedication of the Twilight lovers some of whom camped out for days before the big event.

Jennie Garth accompanied her husband Peter Facinelli, but joked that the scene she was most excited to see was Robert Pattinson shirtless! Always the understanding partner, Peter said that he sees where she's coming from since she's seen him shirtless thousands of times. Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene hit the premiere at almost the same time, meeting up on the red carpet for some interviews - though at one point he stepped on her train, whoops! Nikki Reed and Elizabeth Reaser were excited to see each other and Dakota Fanning stood tall in her sky-high heels. Kristen happily posed with Joan Jett and Dakota after they all worked together on The Runaways. The whole cast was so excited to see so many fans out to support the movie and for it finally to be released this Friday. Kristen Gets Close to Rob and Taylor at New Moon After Party

Kristen Stewart kept her hair curly - do you love it or hate it? - but changed out of her gorgeous dress and into a white t-shirt and leather jacket for the after party following the LA premiere of New Moon last night. Although she didn't pose with Robert Pattinson on the red carpet, she was happy to cuddle up to him at the after party, and the are-they-aren't-they couple looked so cute as they smiled alongside Taylor Lautner. Kristen Stewart Goes Long For Her Big New Moon Night

Kristen Stewart looked like the belle of the ball tonight as she made her way down the red carpet at the LA premiere of New Moon. Her hair looked great - check out how to recreate her look here! She sparkled in a long Oscar de la Renta gown - love it or hate it? - while many of her fellow Twilight actresses opted to go short. Security got a little tighter once Kristen and Robert made their way down towards the fans, but Kristen looked happy despite all the attention surrounding her. Robert even lit up once Kristen's arrival was announced, and it's a little hard not to think that they were the king and queen of the evening.

Ashlee, Pete, and Bronx Keep Trucking Along

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson brought Bronx along yesterday for a family trip to a CVS in LA. Bronx looked excited to get home and play with his new toy truck, which Pete handled as the trio made their way to the car. Ashlee coordinated her all-black outfit with her new dark hair, which she's free to alter now that she's off Melrose Place - though we're going to see a whole lot more of her in some saucy scenes still to air this season. There are whispers that Ashlee might be Broadway bound to reprise her role in Chicago, but for now she and Pete are all about fun California times with Bronx.

Doing Drugstore: Clairol Natural Instincts Shine Happy

YumSugar and I went to Walgreens during our lunch break last week, and we did what we do best: Yum went to the snack aisle to see what was new, and I headed to the cosmetics aisle. (Typical.) Excited by this review at Shake Your Beauty, I looked for the Herbal Essences shine treatment. I didn't see it, so I picked up Clairol Natural Instincts Shine Happy ($9.89) instead. It's a clear glossing treatment that's supposed to leave your hair uber-shiny without changing the color. Now, not to brag, but because I haven't colored my hair in years, it's healthy and shiny on its own. But of course, I imagined I would have hair-commercial shine if I used this stuff, so into the basket it went.

Like a good girl, I thoroughly read the instructions before getting started. The application process is a lot like that of home hair color: You put on gloves, mix up the chemicals, and apply it to your hair. Ten minutes later, you wash it out. So that's what I did. Afterward, I was lounging on my bed, when Mama Bella (who was visiting) said, "I think it changed the color of your hair." To find out what happened, read more

Truthfully, I thought the color looked different because my hair was still wet. But the next morning, when my hair was dry, it was slightly lighter. This discovery did not please me. Swears were uttered.

Additionally, my normally soft hair felt a little rough-not like straw, but not as soft as it used to be. My hair was shiny, but not moreso than before (but again, my hair is already pretty glossy). So now my hair is shiny, but it's also rougher and lighter-and I definitely did not want lighter hair. You can see the before-and-after photos below. To be fair, the lighting is better in the "before" picture, and the fluorescent lighting is harsher in the "after" pic. Regardless, you can definitely tell that the color is different-even though the box promises that Shine Happy won't affect the color. I am not a happy Bella!

Have any of you tried this treatment? I'm curious to know if I'm the only one who isn't thrilled, or if maybe it worked wonders for some of you.

Robert Pattinson Greets Fans at the UK Event!

Maybe that hand-holding with Kristen has something to do with that overjoyed face too? Just sayin'. Nikki and Kellan Get Close and Cozy For Nylon

Nikki Reed and Kellan Lutz posed together in Fall tones for Nylon magazine. The on-screen couple looks adorable side-by-side, but in real life Nikki's happy with her boyfriend Paris Latsis and Kellan has been getting close with AnnaLynne McCord. Nikki and Kellan opened up to the magazine about their crazy lives in the wake of Twilight's success and what they do to get away from it all. Here's more:

Nikki on the initial success of Twilight: "We were just making a little independent film in Portland. . . I don’t know what happened. . . We’ve lived this entire year in shock."
Nikki on their new costar Bryce Dallas Howard: "Bryce is handling it like a champion. She’s beautiful, talented, and a wonderful addition."
Kellan on going out in public: "I used to love going to my local high school football games near my house. And I cant’ really go there anymore, without being wise. . . I do have a few wigs, actually. And sometimes I grow my facial hair out. I wanted to walk around Comic-Con this year, so I dressed kinda homeless. But someone recognized me and posted it online. I was like, 'Thanks. Now I can’t wear that again.'"

Do You Need Good Hair To Feel Happy?

Here's some interesting news as reported by Telegraph. Apparently, women are their happiest at 28 years old. They enjoy sex the most and they feel fairly confident with their bodies and their looks. As you approach 30 however, you realize that you spend more and more time worrying about ageing than you ever thought possible.Clairol Perfect 10 performed a study on 4,000 women aged 25-65 when they felt most self assured in their lives. The results showed,

"The age of 28 has been pinpointed as the time in a woman's life when their hair looks best, body shape is at its peak and confidence is at a high. The security of your job, having a steady income, being in a relationship and having strong friendships all help create the point in our lives when everything comes together."

However, there is a silver lining for all of you 30 (plus) years olds. Apparently by 33, women feel more confident about their finances and content with their family and home. Getting back to how this relates to hair, Psychologist Corinne Sweet adds,

"Having a good hair day is essential to success both at work and in love, as many women still feel their hair is their crowning glory. It was found that women have six bad hair days a month, so anything women can rely on to improve their hair at home, in the minimum of time with guaranteed results can mean a huge lift in well-being, confidence and self-esteem."

Take Russian tennis pro and model Anna Kournikova. At 28 she's semi-retired, linked to Enrique Iglesias and as if that's not enough, she has some seriously gorgeous hair. Talk about at the top of your game! Tell me, does having good hair effect your happiness?
