It was the mid-90s and Kate Moss was the face of Calvin Klein. She and model James King (the blonde pictured below) were the poster children for the waifish, drug-addicted look that is "heroin chic." Pale shiny skin, dark circles under the eyes, messy hair, black clothes, and an affected bored look were all over fashion magazines of the time.

Kate Moss, fairly or not, has been a symbol for heroin-chic and anorexia since the mid-90s when, at the tender age of 14, her modeling career took off.
Making her the symbol for unhealthy thinness has always seemed unfair to me for many reasons. Some healthy teenagers are scrawny looking; Kate's body type has always been on the waifish side (especially compared to the size-six early '90s glamazons like Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford); and since then, her slender '90s frame has been replaced by the truly skeletal clothes-hanger body types on the runway.

I have a feeling it might be hard to be Selma Blair's best friend. Not only is she an actress who's buddies with Marc Jacobs (just imagine, "So Marc said the funniest thing the other night..."), she also seemingly never has a bad hairstyle. A few months ago, she had a chic Fitzgerald-heroine crop; now she's wearing natural-looking extensions.

I'm no procrastinator but once October hits the rest of the year tends to fly by and I feel boggled down. I always find the time to stop and eat the candy once Halloween rolls around though — the holiday that encourages you to exhibit your creativity and release inhibitions. All week we showed you Fab and fast costumes and I promise there's still time to create a unique costume so next week we'll be continuing our Fabby Halloween series.

Kate Moss launched yet another line for Topshop, this time her Christmas collection (check out a peek at it here), in London last night. Kate was showing off her glamorous new 'do alongside friends like Naomi, Sadie Frost and Jade Jagger. That sequins number is getting me in the mood for the impending holiday party season, but we've got to get through that day at the end of this month first.

Chanel Not Renewing Contract with Kate Moss
Chanel will continue to run the current campaign with the coke snorting Moss, but they have no future plans for more work. Maybe Calvin will bring the heroin chic look so Kate can get some work.
