The last few weeks I have provided you with delicious, fresh, healthy side recipes... however sometimes a girl just wants something that has a little crunch to it, and I don't mean the crunch of a carrot. I'm talking about the crisp bite of homemade potato chips.

Given that some say we're in the middle of a food revolution, and local, sustainable, home-grown produce is popping up everywhere, it's only logical that an uptick in home preserving will happen, too. Enter Karen Solomon's Jam It, Pickle It, Cure It, a new book that's focused on making your own artisanal food products, either to keep or to give as gifts. I truly enjoy going to the grocery store. I like to bring the girls along and use it as an educational errand and teach them that a piece of fruit and fruit snacks are not the same thing. I do get to take more time when I am by myself and really read all the nutritional labels - but that is another story.

Last Thursday night I was invited to a hip local arts event that expertly mixed art, auction and food. Hosted by Root Division - an organization that promotes creative expression and boosts the community by providing studio space to working artists in exchange for their services as art teachers - Taste 2007 was a fundraiser, exhibition, and tasting all rolled into one event. Tastes, bite sized tapas from eight acclaimed young San Francisco chefs, featured delicious, innovative nibbles along side the artwork.
