Group Therapy: Do You Have Any Party Ideas?

I was wondering if you guys would be able to give me some great party and gift ideas. My husband's 30th birthday is coming up and I need some help on what to get him and what kind of party I should throw for him. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I want to get my boyfriend the perfect gift for christmas. I need it to be under $75. Any ideas? I also need ideas on my best friend and my boyfriends mom.

As part of a fun holiday series, I've asked some interior design "tastemakers," from designers and stylists to bloggers and shop-owners, to share their favorite go-to holiday gift ideas with me.

Here's what interior designer Leslie Bamburg of Lab Experiment had to say:

On gifts for quirky friends: "I have been a fan for years of giving Playmobil toys. They are far less expensive than the fancy collectible kidrobot toys, but have just as much personality. Check out this archaeologist! What are those accessories? Ancient Slurpees? Hilarious."

On gifts for professional types: "I’m in love with everything from the Portland, OR, store Canoe, particularly the Lambswool Felt Coasters ($4) and the chunky Kivi Votives ($15) in beautiful colors."
On her plans this season: "Since this year everyone is on a smaller budget, I love the idea of these smaller gifts with personality, packaged beautifully in some handmade paper like the Paper Source Lokta Olive Silver Leaves Fine Paper ($3.50). Or just brown kraft paper, with a pretty ribbon."

Eddie Ross's Go-To Holiday Gift Ideas

As part of a fun holiday series, I've asked interior design "tastemakers," from designers and stylists to bloggers and shop-owners, to share their favorite go-to holiday gift ideas with me.

I chatted with interior stylist, expert flea marketer, Etsy seller, former Top Design contestant, and blogger Eddie Ross - a man of many talents - about his go-to gift ideas for the holidays and here's what he had to say:

"A friend of mine, Susan Schneider, makes these amazing matchboxes that I always give as gifts throughout the year. They're covered with gorgeous wallpapers and trimmed in copper, and perfect for the holidays. The Greek key pattern is my favorite!"

"Libeco Home also makes some great kitchen linen towels. They're a nice thing to give, but also not so expensive. You can take an extra special step to have them monogrammed. They're also bigger than napkins which is nice, so you can buy a whole set to use at the dinner table. I like the ones that are simple, with red and blue ticking stripes."

I do have a few tricks up my sleeve when it comes to holiday gifts, but I'm always impressed with what my design-savvy friends give each year. So, I decided to ask some interior design "tastemakers" for their favorite go-to presents. From designers and stylists to bloggers and shop-owners, some of the brightest stars in the design world have shared their favorite holiday gift ideas with me.

To kick things off, San Francisco-based Victoria Smith of the always-inspiring blog sfgirlbybay has shared her go-to gift ideas. But, she admits she's not a huge fan of the commercial side of Christmas: "I love the white twinkling lights, and the parties and dinner gatherings with friends - the celebrations. I do love that part."

On gifts for friends: "Most of my friends and I for years have agreed to always make our gifts for each other. Even when they sometimes don't come out quite as well as you had envisioned, we give them anyway, and just have a good laugh. From homemade pillow cases, to miniature snow domes made from baby food jars, and knit scarves, we've gone through some good gifts and some good laughs."

Good Idea or Bad Idea: Dating your Ex's Friend

The old cliché states, you can't help whom you fall for, but does that ring true when getting between two friends? Cool Idea: Under Stair Storage

Since I live in a relatively small home, I'm always on the lookout for smart storage solutions. This system of drawers really caught my eye, and now I'm thinking about ways to use already available home features in smarter ways.
Even if you can't take advantage of a staircase, like this household did, you can think about smarter ways to incorporate storage into your home. Consider adding extra shelving and baskets to hall closets, or line a hallway with narrow bookshelves that can be customized with storage containers. Before you know it, you'll have your house in order!
