Even if you don't like to admit it, looks matter. Both our own and those of the people we date. It deems us as shallow if we place too much emphasis on appearance, but when it comes down to it, that's what initially attracts us to one another.

I'm always fascinated by people's reaction to the looks discussion and my friends over at Smitten touched upon this topic in a fun, cheeky way. They posed some great questions and I'd like to ask all of you one of them: Would you rather be the better looking one in your relationship?

Do Tell: Are You Always Prepared?

You really never know when, where, or how you will meet Mr. Right. I've offered up my fair share of advice on where eligible men could be hiding, but it's important to do your part, too. Of course being approachable is crucial, but so is being the best you at all times - you know, just in case! Now I've never been one to put on my face so to speak before leaving the house, but I have some friends that are perfectly coiffed at all times, even if they're just going to the gym or running to the store to buy eggs. So what about you? Do you aim to look your best at all times, keeping a lipstick and compact close by, just in case you bump into a possible suitor?

Do Celebrities Make You Feel Better or Worse About Yourself?

It's no secret that Americans have a fascination with celebrities. Of course knowing that they live in a completely different world than we do makes admiring them from a far all the more fun, but new research shows that praising celebrities can actually improve self-esteem in those that suffer from low self-esteem. Jaye L. Derrick and Shira Gabriel of the University at Buffalo said:

Connections to celebrities - or parasocial relationships - can allow people with low-self esteem to view themselves more positively. . . . These parasocial relationships, which have very low risk of rejection, offer low self-esteem people an opportunity to reduce their self-discrepancies and feel closer to their ideal selves.

While I find this research interesting, I happen to feel the exact opposite - though I would never want to be a celebrity myself, I do look at them through envious eyes. It's their perfect exterior that makes me feel inferior, even though I'm fully aware of all the help, time, and effort it takes to make them look that way. What about you? How do you feel when you compare yourself to celebrities? Do they make you feel better or worse about yourself?

Dear Poll: Are You an Up/Down Girl?

Women are critical of one another - that's not a new phenomena, but nor is it always the case! Sometimes when we check each other out, it can come off as judgmental and rude when we're really just doing it out of admiration. A friend once coined the term "up/downing" - when your eyes look over every part of her, from head to toe in one, quick glance. Of course, it's impolite, but I think we've all been guilty of doing it at least once! So ladies, whether you're just curious about what she's wearing or you like to people watch, what I want to know is, do you ever give the up/down?

Dear Poll: Who is your Favorite Dressed Down Star?

Our favorite celebrities get to play dress up all of the time whether it's hitting the red carpet or attending a charity event, and although they look comfortable dressing the part, I think it is safe to say all women feel more comfortable dressed down.

It is almost a breath of fresh air to see our favorite celebs letting their hair down, going about their business in street clothes, all the while making themselves a little more relatable. So ladies, who is your favorite dressed down female star?

Ryan Parties With Michael and Steven to Cure Parkinson's

Ryan Reynolds joined his friend Michael J. Fox on Saturday night for the annual A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson's benefit in NYC. Scarlett Johansson was by Ryan's side for last year's event, but this time Ryan had ladies like Rachael Ray and Julianne Moore keeping him company. Michael was the man of the evening, and he even entertained the crowd on stage with Steven Tyler. Ryan recently earned accolades for his sexy physique, but he also shows his big heart with his support of Parkinson's research.

Natalie Portman in brilliant blue stole the spotlight last night at a screening of Brothers in NYC. One of her two leading men, Tobey Maguire, joined her on the red carpet along with his wife Jennifer Meyer, though Jake Gyllenhaal missed the event. Amanda Peet was right by her husband David Benioff's side, supporting his latest screenwriting effort. Natalie was caught up in New Moon mania last week, but yesterday was all about her own upcoming project - check out the moving trailer before its release on December 4.

Kate, Nicole and Eva Share the Spotlight With CNN's Heroes

Anderson Cooper was the man of the evening on Saturday as he hosted the annual CNN Heroes Awards. The ceremony honored ten individuals who go above and beyond with their contribution to the world, and each was introduced to the crowd by a celebrity guest. Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, and Eva Mendes were a few of the ladies on hand to do the honors, while Carrie Underwood performed. The evening's biggest award, CNN's Hero of the Year, went to Efren Peñaflorida because of his efforts to bring education to underprivileged children in the Philippines. Kate and Nicole took the evening off from promoting Nine, though they were both out again last night for the American Music Awards. The ladies were joined by other actors like Neil Patrick Harris and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and we'll be able to see the whole show when it airs Thanksgiving evening.

Stars Sparkle, Burn and Sing at the American Music Awards

The stars of last night's American Music Awards hit the red carpet before heading inside LA's Nokia Theatre for the main event. Janet Jackson kicked things off with an energetic eight minute performance, and the evening's first award then went to the Black Eyed Peas. The Black Eyed Peas went on to take the stage to do "Boom Boom Pow" with a special Nirvana twist. The show went on with performances from Carrie Underwood and Shakira, as well as from Jay-Z and Alicia Keys with "Empire State of Mind." Unfortunately not everyone stayed on their feet - both Jennifer Lopez and Adam Lambert took tumbles while singing.

There were other memorable performances, from Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and not to mention Whitney Houston's return to the stage before she received the International Award of Excellence. Jennifer Lopez had a beaming Marc Anthony in the crowd as she debuted her new single and showed off those customized Louboutins. Michael Jackson won multiple awards, and his brother Jermaine took the stage to accept the award on behalf of their family. Taylor Swift took home the most statues, though she wasn't there and the upset of the night might have to go to Gloriana who won breakthrough artist - make sure to check out the full list of winners. Kate Hudson joined her Nine costars Fergie and Nicole Kidman, though Kate did have a chance to share a special moment with Alex Rodriguez. Girls and Guys Get Glam For the American Music Awards!

The American Music Awards took place last night in Los Angeles, celebrating the best in US music from the past 12 months! Taylor Swift was the big winner of the night, dominating the female categories and getting gongs for favourite artist in both pop and country categories as well as beating Michael Jackson to the huge award - Artist of the Year. Taylor's in London at the moment and missed the ceremony, but Michael's family Jermaine and Janet were at the ceremony and picked up the late singer's four awards.

Country act Gloriana were shocked to beat Lady GaGa to Breakthrough Artist award, while Twilight picked up yet another award for Favourite Soundtrack. Performers included Whitney Houston, Jay-Z, Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, Rihanna, Lady GaGa as well as a performance by Adam Lambert that's got everyone talking - see why under the cut!
