Why Cardio? To Lose Inches

A friend of mine, a proclaimed hater of cardio, decided to test the aerobic exercise waters to see what all the hype was about. After six weeks, she tells me in a surprised tone that while she has not lost any weight, she has lost two inches off her waist. And there is the reason to learn to love cardio, or at least factor it into your fitness program (love might be pushing it). If you don't have a fitness program, why not start one today and make cardio a cornerstone of your new regimen, along with the other cornerstone, weight training. Add some stretching and you are set!

Weight loss happens when you burn more calories than you eat, and cardio will definitely help you burn the calories. While my friend didn't lose pounds, she did shed inches. Muscle is more dense when compared to fat, so a pound of muscle takes up less room than a pound of fat. Just wanted to remind you all the scale is not the ultimate means of measuring progress when you want to lose weight. You want to lose fat and if you are getting smaller, then you are losing unwanted fat.

Say it with me: All hail cardio!!!

Looking for a new workout? Check out these cardio routines. You are sure to find something inspiring.

Fab Read: That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything in Between by Victoria Beckham

We reported last year that Victoria Beckham was going to release a book aimed at girl's girls, much like her! That time is nearing. That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels and Everything in Between, set to hit US bookshelves in November, will offer advice on everything from how to dress for special occasions to how to shop for everyday wear, and helpful hints for the holidays, making the most of your wardrobe and how to always feel confident.

How, you may wonder, did Victoria gain all this wisdom? "I was never the 6-foot-tall pinup. I've always been the girl-next-door who got lucky," she said. "I've come a long way in the last 10 years, but this book isn't my attempt to tell you what or what not to do. It's just to share some of what I've learned."

I look forward to learning from Victoria because even though her style isn't always on par, she has confidence every gal can take cues from.

Healthy Ways to Deal With Thanksgiving Leftovers

Thanksgiving never seems to be a one-day affair, at least not the food part. Properly stored, leftovers can last up to four days, beckoning you to eat more, more, and then some! This Thanksgiving, resist the urge to overindulge by finding healthier alternatives for your T-day leftovers. Here are a few of our ideas - share your own in the comments section below.

Get rid of them. Buy some inexpensive containers before your meal to pack up leftovers for guests and send friends and family home with the most decadent dishes.

Make a healthy salad. Turkey is packed full of protein and tastes great on a salad. Use leftover cranberry sauce to make a healthy dressing - mix a dab with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Make a turkey curry. Turkey is great in a curry because it easily soaks up the flavors of a sauce. Try using turkey instead of the tofu in our Indian-Spiced Chard recipe.

For more healthy leftover ideas, read more.

Make turkey stock. I always like to have broth or stock on hand because it adds a ton of flavor to my cooking and can be the base of a variety of dishes. Storebought broth usually has a ton of added salt, so I think it's best to make your own. Save the carcass of the bird and break it up into a large stock pot, then add mirepoix, garlic, and savory herbs. Cover the entire mixture by at least two inches of water and let simmer for five hours. If the water level falls below the ingredients, add more liquid to the mix. Cool quickly, store in the refrigerator, or freeze.

Use turkey stock to make a delicious soup. Cut up any extra veggies you have leftover from your T-day meal or ingredients, add some barley or brown rice, throw it in your stock, and you've got a simple, tasty soup.

Puree leftover vegetables. Healthy vegetable side dishes are great to have after Thanksgiving, but give them new life and puree them. A veggie puree can be the base of a soup or pasta sauce. Veggie purees can also add moisture to baked goods.

Make an open-faced sandwich. Everybody loves the day after Thanksgiving sandwich. Make your sandwich healthier by only using one slice of bread.

Hump Day: What to Do When He's Not Well Endowed

Welcome to Hump Day, TrèsSugar's sex advice column. If you have questions about sex, send them to TrèsSugar, and our friend Dr. Charlie Glickman from Good Vibrations will offer his sound advice!
Today's question:
What are some good techniques to use with a partner who has a relatively small penis?

To see Dr. Glickman's answer, read more.

There are a few different things you could try to make intercourse better. The first thing is to have lots of buildup for both of you. The more excited he is, the harder his erection will be. That can maximize the sensations for you since the vagina tends to be most sensitive near the opening. And the closer you are to orgasm before intercourse, the easier it might be to have an orgasm once he’s inside you.

Some positions may work better for you than others. If you try rear entry (aka doggie style) and arch your back, you’ll probably be able to get deeper penetration. Some women report that crossing their legs (after he’s inside) in this position makes things snugger, which creates more intense sensations for both people. If you prefer face to face contact, prop your hips up on a pillow or the amazing Wedge. Bending your legs so your knees are against your chest also maximizes penetration. Since both the vagina and the penis vary in dimensions, you’ll have to experiment a bit to find the ones that feel best to you. Sadie Allison’s book Ride’Em Cowgirl is full of useful tips and fun ideas.

If you’re having trouble getting enough stimulation for your pleasure, you can always make sure that you get your needs taken care of first or keep the fun going after his orgasm. There’s a commonly held belief that simultaneous orgasm is the ultimate sexual experience, and while it can be fun, if that ideal is getting in the way, then ditch it. If he gives you oral sex or uses his hands first and then you switch to intercourse (or vice versa), then you’re both getting pleasured and I think that’s a great thing.

Quite a few partners of men with smaller penises find that oral sex can be a lot easier. After all, if you have a sensitive gag reflex or a narrow jaw, a smaller penis can be much more fun to play with. I definitely encourage you to get creative when it comes to blow jobs. Check out this excellent DVD on oral sex. Similarly, a slender penis can make anal sex more pleasurable, too. While a lot of people aren’t into anal play, if you happen to be, you might find that it feels better when you’re with someone on the slimmer side of things. You can check out this DVD on anal play.

As you can see, there are lots of choices. You may need to talk with each other to figure out what will work best for the two of you. While you might have some worries about talking with your guy about his penis size, I can guarantee that he already knows about it. If you approach the conversation from a desire to make sure that you’re both having fun, it’ll go a lot better. And whatever you do, don’t make fun of him or shame him for his body. Lots of men are hyper-sensitive about penis size and that’s not going to be a constructive thing to do.

Lastly, for the record, most penises are about five-six inches (12.7-15.24 cm) long and about five inches (12.7 cm) around. Lots of people have distorted expectations about penis size, especially if they watch porn. But a lot of people in porn movies (both male and female) are short - it makes penises look larger, just as they used to make cowboy movie sets small to make the actors look bigger. That sort of forced perspective is a trick of the camera, and unfortunately, it can lead to unrealistic expectations.

I hope that helps. Have fun!

LG Unveils Its First-Ever Netbook

I'm sensing a trend here. Just recently we heard about Dell computers developing an Android handset, and now LG Electronics - a company mainly known for its cell phones and televisions - has sexy new slim portable hard drives and its first-ever netbook! Note to self: companies are branching out into all gadget areas!

The LG X120 has already debuted in other countries, but it's said to be making its way to the US before the holidays. What's so great about this netbook compared to all of the others on the market? Well, it only weighs 2.8lbs (which is on the lighter scale of netbooks), it features a 160GB hard drive, a 10.1-inch screen, LED backlighting, and it comes in stylish white. Not to mention, it fits most budgets, coming in at $180 with a 2-year AT&T data plan.

Thanksgiving Tip: Freeze the Butter Before Making Pie

When making pie dough, it's very important to use really cold butter. This will ensure that the crust is rich, flaky, and buttery. Most recipes remind you that the butter should be cold, but whenever I'm baking a pie, the first thing I do, before measuring anything, is cut the butter into 1/4-inch cubes. I put the cubes in a small dish and place it in the freezer. Then, I start making the dough. The butter is in the freezer for only a few minutes and doesn't really freeze; instead it gets really cold. Do you have a tip for great Thanksgiving pie?

Here's my latest Lego-themed find: Lego USB Hubs ($20).

Available in four bright colors (yellow, red, black, and blue) the hubs are four inches long and have ports for up to four USB cables or devices.

It's definitely been a Lego-overload recently, but I have to admit, I'm a fan of this product, too. What do you think?

Get Marissa Miller's Victoria's Secret Makeup Look

Wowza! I've been checking out the photos from the 2009 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show that took place in New York City last night and they are smoking h-o-t! The Angels are scantily clad in custom lingerie, dripping in accessories and have added five or so inch heels to their already lengthy legs.

But instead of feeling insecure, I just embrace their beauty and focus on their amazing hair (yes, they're all wearing extensions) and their dewy and sparkly-looking pink makeup.

To recreate this look at home, begin with a clean, hydrated and well moisutrised face. Then, apply a primer, followed by concealer to any red areas or spots, and medium-coverage foundation to the face, neck and decolletage. Next, dust a translucent setting powder all over and buff it to a natural finish by using a clean and fluffy brush.

To find out how you can achieve the rest of their makeup look at home, and to see more images of the models getting ready backstage, just read more.

CHEEKS: Although your skin is matte and prepped, all that you've created is a flawless canvas - and now it's time to have some fun! Add a liquid luminzer all over the face and blend into the foundation with a sponge for a dewy look. Next, apply a medium perky-pink blusher to the apples of your cheeks and blend outwards and upwards toward your cheekbones.

EYES: Start by sweeping a pale and creamy champage shadow from the bottom of the lid all the way up to the brows (which by the way must be filled in and perfectly shaped). Then, using a windshield-wiping motion, apply a taupey-grey coloured shadow in the crease for depth and a slightly smoky look. Over the grey, add a touch of pink shadow and blend well. Curl your lashes and apply a powder liner to the upper and lower rims of your eyes. Lastly tack on a full set of false lashes followed by two coats of black mascara.

LIPS: The goal for this lip look is full, glossy and most of all...kissable! The colour should fall somewhere between a pale pink and a medium rose lipstick topped with oodles of shimmery and sheer pink gloss.
