MTV VMAs brought its share of drama last night — some amazing performances, a heartfelt Michael Jackson tribute, and a huge moment that had everyone talking — it was a show that will go down in history. Check out
all the winners here! The biggest story of the night was Kanye West
making a scene when Taylor Swift won Best Female Video, but thankfully it all ended well when Beyonce Knowles sweetly called her up onto the stage to have her moment and
he apologized profusely. The night was dedicated to Michael Jackson and kicked off with a touching tribute from Madonna and a performance including his sister Janet.

it was a great thing to do to bring the VMAs back to NYC! i wasn't to happy about brand hosting the show AGAIN....wasn't happy about it the first time either....i loved Madonna's tribute to Michael, Janet's was ok, but they could've done more with it....i got hyped when she danced her part in the Scream vid with MTV having removed her, so that it seemed she was dancing with Michael.....Kanye's moment wasn't a nice thing to do, but he bought some of the good old VMA's controversy back, which i kinna miss.....the wins were a little wacked....it looked that they wanted everyone to have a piece......anyway, i was happy with gaga winning best new artist which she so deserves and beyonce's win of best vid.
1look how sad Taylor looks in the photos
2New Moon trailer was f-cking awesome
Definition of a narcissist: Someone who has a pathological need for attention & admiration, often coupled with a complete disregard for the feelings of others. ie Kanye West
3Kayne is beyond idiotic, he's like a brat kicking and screaming.
4Adam Brody looks really, really GOOD!, is he looking for a girlfriend? cos i'm available!
Everybody is giving props to Beyonce for letting Swift have her moment at the end, but, she didn't look unhappy AT ALL when it (the horrid intrusion that is Kanye) was going down. The look on her face was anything but upset. That irritated me almost as much as Kanye's antics. He shouldn't be allowed at award shows any longer- although that would just give him more to complain about.
5Also, I'm waaaay over MJ being the Savior of the world. Nobody cared about him (except for to make jokes) for the last 10 years. Seriously- search his name on Popsugar and you will see entries from before his death and they were not flattering. He was a drug addict with very questionable character. He WAS talented, but, this is beyond ridiculous.
6I'm not even a big taylor swift fan since country isnt a genre i generally listen to but even I wanted to beat up Kanye West for Taylor Swift, actually felt angry towards him when i saw it happen, i mean who is arrogant and mean enough to take that moment of joy away from someone who never thought theyd get one of these awards? what a crappy person he is, everyone should hate him.
7They all looked great.
8Kristen Stewart actually looked good with the black hair.
I agree with most of you, Kanye is a f*cking sh*t. It was really impolite of him to do that to Taylor Swift.
I agree with etab. I thought for Beyonce to sit there and look like she was almost laughing and somewhat pleased that he did that made me just as mad at her. What else could she have done at the end. Taylor deserved her moment just as much as anyone else there. I felt so bad for her. The Mom in me kicked in and I just wanted to do very bad things to that piece of Sh-t for making her feel like that. As for the MJ thing, ok he had his tribute lets move on now. Kanye just needs to fall of the face of the earth.
9I'm sorry my own opinion is "distasteful and ignorant", ANONYMOUS. Lol...
10yeahh wat a crappy person ... I like his music but he was so rude. .. an idiot racist
11I really wish the entertainment business was organized. Some training involved in the beginning of getting signed to any contract. I know the bosses are basically crooks but stuff like 'Kristen, you're in a dress, close your damn legs...' should be taught.
And Lady blahblah cashed in on 'Carrie' I see. If she had a true talent all that extra sh*t wouldn't be necessary.
Glad I didn't watch it cause this Popsugar snippet is all I could stand.
Kanye, come diss my daughter at her first HS musical...I dare you.
12Katy Perry would make a cool hood ornament.
On the front of my
miniV. lol
13there was a lot of randomness last night - but all in all it was ok. is it just me though or did they use to give out a LOT MORE awards at this thing? i feel like they only gave out like 5 awards last night and in the past there were like 10+. oh well.
as for the kanye thing - he needs to be banned from shows i think. he's such a bad sport! and it wasn't even his award that he was being rude about. at least we know that beyonce has social etiquette
14VMAs in NY are always the best ones. I watch the shows since 1997 and really like this one, not mmy favorite though. The MJ tribute with Madonna great and honest speech and Janet performing Scream was great. The trailer of the night for me was This Is It, of course. Beyonce, Pink, Jay z, Alicia and Muse had sime great performances too. Brand was better last year.
15russell brand was only funny in sarah marshall, and lady gaga makes me have nightmares. the MJ tribute was alright - i suppose the VMAS are the one appropriate place for all that hoopla (like, maybe they should stop talking about it on the news every day?). and i wanted to cry for taylor! she is so sweet and talented and you can tell she is genuinely surprised and excited every time she wins an award. i have always hated kayne, now i hate him more!! i never really liked beyonce but i grew a soft spot for her when she invited taylor up to finish her speech. the new moon trailer was the best though - and i might be mistaken, but im pretty sure kristen had her hair tucked under, not an actual haircut.
16Beyonce seemed a bit phony in her reaction to Kanye. I think that end part was so scripted. I like Russell Brand!
17What a racist n idiot.
18Beyonce is a slightly inflated douchette so it didn't surprise me to see her little chicklet teeth smiling and finding that amusing...I think Taylor's soo very pretty and seems sweet enough (until the nude photos surface) but she had every right to grab the mic back and tell him to go suck one, which would've made my day lol...I didn't think my loathing of Kanye could get worse but it did...I absolutely loved Pinks performance...Lady Caca, try a little harder next time and of course, loved seeing my New Moon buddies (Rob is a sexy mf'er)
19There are so many comments that I'd like to make about these ridiculous posts that I can hardly make any, my brain is in overdrive. I am completely befuddled by cries of racism. Wow. Go to a dictionary and find another word to describe his actions. Racism it was not. I'm sure many other people liked Beyonce's vid more than Taylor Swift's. Oh no! Is this the makings of a coalition of mucis video racists? Kanye was just being rude and a spotlight wh*re, as he had done before. Beyonce looked completely shocked to me. I didn't see a hint of anything but disbelief and embarassment on her face.
20One more thing... If you were watching CNN I could see how you'd get annoyed with the Michael Jackson coverage- because it's not news anymore. But to be annoyed with a M.J. tribute on MTV FOR CRYING OUT LOUD is really ridculous. He made one of the single greatest contributions to music/dance of all time. MTV is the appropriate forum for a tribute. Maybe one could see not wanting to give M.J. (a musical performer) his accolades (on a music network) as racism.
21I loved Madonna's speach and Janet's tribute. More than fitting, given Michael put MTV on the map in the first place. The Kanye stuff was so distasteful.
22ps - cry racism when it's appropriate, that's a big word some people don't know how to use...he is, no doubt, an arrogant dip shyt who's clearly riding Beyonce and Jay-z's a$$ and wasn't taught how to be a man growing up, imo...but that was far from "racist"
23I agree with allthingspop; it wasn't racism and beyonce didn't look happy but only embarrased.
24I love the This is it trailer and can't wait for the release. I also thought Madonna's speech was touching, as well as Janet's performance. She did a great job and I think it was the perfect way to honour her brother: doing one song instead of a whole bunch and doing an upbeat song rather than a tearjerker to get the crowds crying. It was sad to see her cry and she really put her soul into it.
I also loved Pink's performance and Russell Brand did okay.
I liked the show for the most part, but I HATE the writing! They make people say the lamest things, and it is just awkward. Like the Jack Black Leight Meister thing....just awful. I REALLY liked Lady Gaga's performance, she is so wacky and always surprises me. Very entertaining. I liked Beyonce's performance, but was surprised that she didn't really sing that much. She danced her booty off, but I would have liked to have heard a bit less of her backing track.
Kanye is a jerk, but that is his only way to get attention since he can't win awards. It is to be expected with him.
25i don't think beyonce has happy about it. to me it looked like she was shocked and did an uncomfortable laugh which a lot of people do when they don't know wtf is going on.
26is there a bigger fvckwad in the world? i don't think so.
27I think Kanye might have turrets or something. The first year he did something like this I let it slide but after the Hurricane Katrina fundraiser and now this he is just an a-hole and people need to write him off like they have Chris Brown. I love how the FANS that were there booed Kayne when his name was read in his category.
28I LOVED the MJ dancing tribute in the beginning- Beyonce's performance was also crazy- shoot I wish I could move like that, and of course I loved the New Moon Trailer (even though it had leaked and I saw it last week).
Still didn't care for Russell being the host.
Wow, his "apology" was so passive-aggressive...I'm sorry but....whatever, he should have just kept his mouth shut on both accounts.
29I think Kanye enjoyed the free bar.
30Before MJ died he had long been written off as at best a freak who made music last 20 years ago. I for one believe he was a danger to himself and children. It's strange how death makes a martyr of us
I think people who say Beyonce was amused are wrong. She looked more shocked than amused to me. Like she couldn't believe this was happening. I was very proud when at the end Beyonce let Taylor Swift (who I don't like but I thought Kanye was way out line for interrupting her, even though I didn't think she deserved the award either) finish her speech. All in all I thought the VMAs were amazing.
31Beyonce was shocked! I think she felt bad.
Janet was great! I wish it was longer!
Jennifer Lopez needs to go away. I hate her.
Taylor Swift is the most gracious thing I have ever seen.
I liked Jay Z and Alicia Keys.
32Russell Brand is a complete idiot. Not funny at all. The MTV Awards should not be used as a political platform
33What can I say about Kanye that hasn't already been said. He's a first class a-hole.
I'm starting to wonder if I'm the only peron that doesn't like Lady Gaga.
34I missed the beginning of the show but had a good friend call me and told me about what Kanye did. This was Taylor's big night which Kanye just ruined. I'm glad Taylor was able to accept the award later on. Was excited about seeing Kristen Rob and Taylor but my friend started banging around in the kitchen on purpose so i couldnt hear taylor! overall it was a good show!
35-The tribute to MJ was heartfelt and appropriate, IMO.
-I'm actually over New Moon. That's the thing have little to do with music and videos.
-I didn't like Russell Brandt's pants.
- Kanye is an ass but thanks to him I kept watching the show .
- Its under my impression that Beyonce looked more surprised and embarrased than pleased. Showing your teeth doesn
- Nobody here seemed to have noticed that Lil Mama also crashed the stage when JayZ and Alicia Keys performed.
36For every day that passes J-Lo looks more and more like a dude!!
37Kanye is a jerk and its sad that his stupid outburst has overshadowed what was a beautiful tribute to the King of Pop. Madonna speech was very touching and Beyonce was a class act asking Taylor to come up on stage to make a proper acceptance speech. But can we seriously not give Kanye any more publicly I don't want to hear about this for a month or more. Also love the This is it trailer.
38Continuing...
- Its under my impression that Beyonce looked more surprised and embarrased than pleased. Showing your teeth doesn 't automatically means that you're happy, you know....
39I didn't think Beyonce looked pleased - I think she had a camera in her face in a moment that she didn't know how to react to. She seemed embarrassed; when I'm put on the spot, I smile and laugh, too - I think it was just nervous laughter. Also, Kanye really didn't apologize profusely - I actually thought his apology was offensive! You can't say "I'm sorry" and then repeat exactly what got you into trouble in the first place! Poor Taylor - I can't imagine being embarrassed like that on a stage during a moment that was supposed to be so special!
40I agree -- I think Beyonce was shocked, too, and laughed uncomfortably, like she couldn't believe what was happening. Just look at her eyes.
Seriously, I think Kanye may have drank too much. He was nuts.
41Leighton looks amazing
