Jade Goody's Family Win Legal Damages

The late Jade Goody's family have won legal damages after they settled a High Court action regarding photographs taken at Jade's private burial. While the photos from the public funeral were part of the family's wish for the public to be able to say goodbye to the reality star, the private burial was for family only, but a photo from the day was published on the front page of The People.

The newspaper group and a photo agency agreed to pay £35,000 in damages, as well as legal costs. Jade's mother Jackiey Budden, her grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousins settled the action yesterday, and the newspaper wrote a letter to the family apologising and agreeing they had the right to expect privacy on that occasion.

A TV talent search to find someone to play Jade Goody in a new musical version of her life is being planned, although currently there are no networks signed up to the idea. Max Clifford has offered his services to be a judge if it comes to fruition. - BBC

Sugar Bits - Victim Angry at Jack Tweed's Short Jail Sentence

Stephen Wilkins, the taxi driver who was attacked by Jack Tweed, has accused magistrates of going easy on Jack because of the publicity surrounding Jade Goody’s death. He believes Jack was let-off lightly with a 12-week jail term, and his solicitor has said they are considering an appeal. - Mirror
It has been revealed in Jade Goody's diary, Jade: Forever In My Heart, that the Queen sent a message through her secretary conveying her "warmest good wishes" to Jade and her family. - Telegraph

Jack Tweed Jailed For 12 Weeks

Jack Tweed - Jade Goody's widower - has been sentenced to twelve weeks in jail today, after being found guilty in March of assaulting taxi driver Stephen Wilkins. The assault took place in Essex in May 2008, and Jack had denied the offence.

Jack assaulted the taxi driver while already on bail for hitting a boy with a golf club - which he also denied. He was then jailed for 18 months after being found guilty following a trial.

Jack had been allowed to attend Jade's funeral after sentencing was postponed. The chairman of the magistrates told Jack that they had considered recent events in his life when passing the sentence, saying:

"We have borne in mind the recent change in your personal circumstances and have reflected this in the length of the sentence, which would otherwise have been 18 weeks."

Jack will spend half of his sentence behind bars before being freed on licence, and he will also pay prosecution costs.

Jade Goody Is Laid To Rest

Jade Goody's funeral took place at the weekend, with thousands of mourners gathering along the procession route, and outside St John's Church in Buckhurst Hill, Essex to watch the service on a large screen. Jack Tweed and Jade's mum Jackiey Budden were in attendance, while Jade's sons Bobby and Freddie did not attend the service - they are currently away on holiday with their father, Jeff Brazier.

Jack helped carry the coffin into the church for the service which included some of her favourite music, and a poem written and read by her husband. The congregation included friends, family and some well-known faces paying their respects, including Davina McCall, Jamelia, Aldo Zilli and Anthony Costa. Rest in peace, Jade.
