2008 MTV VMAs: Winners And Wicked Performances

As I told you earlier, Britney Spears won three awards last night, sweeping the board at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. After her cringeworthy comeback performance last year, it felt like this year she'd finally got it all together - she looked stunning in her mini-dress as she opened the show with a skit featuring Jonah Hill (UK readers, you can watch it all unfold on MTV tonight from 8pm). Rihanna, T.I, Christina Aguilera and the Jonas Brothers also put on some memorable performances, with Pink's spectacle of a performance standing out as a particular highlight.

Host Russell Brand has definitely split opinion, much as he does in the UK - you definitely either love him or you hate him! A remark about President Bush possibly didn't warm him to some members of the audience early on, plus a couple of British slang remarks appeared to confuse the international audience - for instance, it appears "yobbos" is not used across the pond! I can't wait to watch it in full tonight to see if he got lost in translation, or if he was off his game.

BET Awards Honor Michael With Help From His Music, Family and Moves

The stars gathered in LA last night for the BET Awards where they paid tribute to Michael Jackson. Joe was on the red carpet talking about how much Michael would have appreciated the outpouring of love and support and once the show started Janet took the stage on behalf of the Jackson family. She said, "My entire family wanted to be here tonight, but it was just too painful so they elected me to speak with all of you. I would just like to say that to you, Michael is an icon. To us, Michael is family, and he will forever live in all of our hearts. On behalf of my family and myself, thank you for all your love; thank you for all your support." Jamie Foxx performed "I'll Be There" and showed off his attempt at MJ moves to "Beat It." The red carpet was full of beauty highlights and other performances included Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z, but there was no question that the night belonged to Michael amid so many rumors and stories surrounding his untimely passing.

It's a random assortment of stars, but apparently Jamie's pulling out all the stops to remind everyone that he's back on the music scene. So, tell us - love it or leave it?

Jay-Z brought out a star-studded crowd for his show in LA last night. Jamie Foxx checked out the show as news broke that he'll be bringing back his favorite '90s alter ego, and Justin Timberlake took a break from practicing his golf game to walk hand-in-hand with Jessica Biel. Nicole Richie had a busy weekend of red carpet events, but she kept going with Samantha Ronson by her side. The famous attendees were treated to a special cameo from Rihanna, who joined Jay for "Run This Town" before she debuted a single from her album - check out the video after the jump. Jay-Z has been touring North America after his big NYC Yankees show, but he and Beyonce are still thinking of making time for a new addition.

Nick Burns: Fixes Your Computer, Makes Fun of You

Oh, Nick Burns, or "Your Company's Computer Guy," is one of my favorite SNL characters ever - he would fix your computer, and then degrade you as only a bored IT guy can. Sadly, I have to say that Nick Burns is a too-often true stereotype. What is it about that job? I have had an IT guy treat me like I was a luddite, but luckily, the Sugar HQ computer guy is nice and respectful and has never told me to "MOOOOOOOOOVE!"

In this clip, Nick and his scathing impatience face off with Y2K and a 2000-era Jamie Foxx. Have any of you had a Nick Burns experience?

Shakira and Chili Peppers Lead VMAs

MTV announced the nominations for the 2006 Video Music Awards today. Shakira and The Red Hot Chili Peppers received the most nominations for the VMAs with 7 each. Both will compete for video of the year along with Christina and Madonna. JT and Beyonce announced the nominees today. They will both perform that evening along with Panic! At The Disco, The Killers and rappers T.I. and Ludacris.

The VMAs will air on August 31st in NYC from Radio City Music Hall. For the first time ever, viewers can vote in all categories. Click here to cast your vote. This is guaranteed to be a fabulous show! Each year I wonder how MTV will top the Madonna Britney kiss.

Jake Gyllenhaal Is One Damn Hot Yankee

Jake Gyllenhaal looked particularly manjoyable this weekend as he ran errands in LA. He recently made a cameo in Jamie Foxx's music video, but Jake has his own exciting new project in the works - he'll be starring in a musical film adaptation of Damn Yankees with Jim Carrey. We can't wait to hear Jake's singing voice, which he gave us a peek of on SNL, and maybe Reese can give him some more tips on warming up those vocal chords.
