Jason Segel Asks Disease-Free Concertgoers to Call Him

Jason Segel became friends with the Swell Season - the duo behind the music in Once - when he sent them wine in an LA restaurant. So last night when the band played in LA, the members asked him to write and sing a song for his audience. "Advice?" he asked. "Give as much personal information as possible," they said. And so he did, by giving out his phone number and asking disease-free ladies who liked what they saw in Forgetting Sarah Marshall to give him a ring. So I did! The number rang a few times and went to a voicemail with Jason asking callers to email him. You know what? Forget it, Jason Segel.

Movie Preview: Despicable Me, Starring Lots of Famous Voices

The same guys who brought us the Ice Age franchise are back to create another potential hit with the 3-D CGI Despicable Me. Seems like every animated movie nowadays wrangles A-list names, but the Despicable roster is even starrier than most. Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, Mindy Kaling, Jack McBrayer - it's like a laundry list of my favorite comedy people. And while I sort of wish we could see them all acting together in the flesh instead of just lending their voices, their involvement really has me hyped.

The story follows the world's No. 2 villain Gru (Carell) on his plot to steal the moon - a plan that gets thwarted by three little orphan girls who challenge his evil ways when they want him to be their dad. The trailer doesn't reveal much, but I'm sure we'll get more footage as we near the June release date. In the meantime, check out the cute preview when you read more.

John, Jason and Judd Are STARS and Studs in the Night

John Mayer proved to be the main attraction at last night's STARS benefit gala in LA. He cracked a few jokes from the podium, before whipping out his guitar to perform some of his new music that you guys are loving. He was rolling solo for the evening, despite the recent rumors about his romancing Rashida Jones that her publicist denied and of course the ongoing Jennifer Aniston reports. Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann were the evening's honorees, and funny guys like Jason Segel and Seth Rogen came out to toast the duo. There doesn't seem to be much news about Jason's apparent romance with Chloe Sevigny, but his How I Met Your Mother costar Josh Radnor is about to see some on-screen developments with special guest star Rachel Bilson.

Stars Shine At The Emmys Show and Behind The Scenes!

The stars arrived looking glam last night, and they were all there to see who would receive the statuettes at the Primetime Emmy Awards! 30 Rock and Mad Men were both big winners last night, taking the top Comedy Series and Drama Series trophies. Kristin Chenoweth was thrilled and tearful as she took to the podium to accept her Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy award for Pushing Daisies while Toni Collette won Best Actress in a Comedy for her amazing turn in The United States Of Tara. Leighton Meester, Blake Lively and Ricky Gervais were among those presenting awards, while Justin Timberlake won for his guest spot on Saturday Night Live. Alec Baldwin jumped for joy over his win in the press room, while Neil Patrick Harris was the fantastic host for the evening!

NPH Hosts and Jokes His Way Through Mad Men, 30 Rock's Big Emmy Night!

Neil Patrick Harris was the star of the night at yesterday's Primetime Emmy Awards. He hosted the long show and managed to keep things interesting with his constant jokes and hours of preparation looking up the tiniest, most obscure roles on all the presenters' resumes to introduce them with. Check out all the winners here. Blake Lively and Leighton Meester looked gorgeous together as they took the stage to hand out an Emmy, though their show might not ever be up for any. Jessica Lange beat out her costar Drew Barrymore but the close friends looked overjoyed and the night's cutest acceptance speech might just go to a teary Kristin Chenoweth.

Justin Timberlake was all over the awards with his multiple nominations, though he didn't take any home he did win an Emmy last weekend. Heidi Klum and Seal shared a kiss in the audience, which is a lot less stressful than where she was last year up on stage as one of the hosts. Mad Men and 30 Rock took home the awards for best Drama and Comedy series respectively, but Jon Hamm and Tina Fey didn't win Actor or Actress. While the show was up against some tough competition with Sunday Night Football, NPH did a great job keeping the awards fun, funny and livelier than they've been in years.

Emily Joins Jason, Jack and James For Gulliver's Travels

The all-star cast of Gulliver's Travels gathered in Greenwich yesterday to film scenes for the movie. After starring as The Young Victoria, Emily Blunt is back in a royal role as the Princess of Lilliputia. She had a busy time on set, throwing punches at The IT Crowd's Chris O'Dowd and kissing Jason Segel. Jack Black, who plays the eponymous Gulliver in the "contemporary reimagining of the classic Jonathan Swift tale", was also on set and chatted with his costars, including James Corden. James is thrilled to be involved in the film, saying: "I was lucky enough to meet Jack when I went to America to audition with him. I have never done a big studio picture, so I am really looking forward to it." Catherine Tate and Billy Conolly also star in the film, which is due for release in June 2010. Will you go and see it?

Paul and Jason Bring Their Love to London Without Rashida

Paul Rudd and Jason Segel were in London yesterday for a premiere of I Love You, Man. It was mostly guy time for the screening and the afterparty, as their costar Rashida Jones had to miss out on the trip. We will be seeing her on TV tonight, though, when Parks and Recreation debuts on NBC. Buzz had a chance to chat with her about her work on The Office and her new series, which seems like it's going to be a good one despite early rumblings of trouble and having a few kinks to work out.

Paul Rudd and Jason Segel are in London to promote their new movie I Love You, Man, and yesterday both of the rather handsome men attended a special VIP screening of the movie at the Soho Hotel in London. Paul and Jason embark on a touching bromance in the film and, when I showed you guys the trailer, the majority of you said it was a film you'd see rather than skip! Skins stars Kaya Scodelario and sisters Megan and Kathryn Prescott also showed up for the event, with the onscreen twins setting themselves apart with their different styles! I Love You, Man: Bromance at Its Cutest

I Love You, Man is a sweet, low-key comedy about two guys who find true friendship. As I left the screening a friend said it struck her as a kind of poor man's Judd Apatow movie (meant as a positive thing, BTW) - in the literal sense, it seems lower-budget but it's also just quieter, tamer, and less yucky. There's tons of super awkwardness, similar to the kind we see each week in The Office, and little gross-out humor. It's also simply more genuine than something Apatow might do, and it's a nice change.

The movie focuses on the platonic relationship between two guys, and the fact that they're guys is central to the humor of their awkward blossoming friendship. It all starts when Peter (Paul Rudd) proposes to his girlfriend Zooey (Rashida Jones) and realizes that he has nobody to be his best man in the wedding. So, on the advice of his gay brother Robbie (Andy Samberg), he goes on a series of "man dates" to try and find a friend to be his best man. Finally, Peter meets Sydney (Jason Segel), the carefree and fun-loving antidote to Peter's buttoned-up steadiness. Peter discovers what it's like to talk frankly with another guy and how to loosen up a little bit and not always play by the rules. Sydney's relaxed attitude starts to rub off on Peter, which is refreshing until it gets to the point that Peter (and Zooey, for that matter) feels like he's not totally himself anymore. He then has to figure out if he can balance both romance and bromance in his life. For more of my thoughts on it all, read more.

There are a lot of perfect fits in this movie. Rudd and Segel are natural together, and they strike a comfortable balance of sincere affection and dudeliness. Rudd fits well with his character, Peter, who's just a nice, stable guy with a calm and respectful temperament. It's easy to like Peter for who he is, though we recognize that he lacks some confidence and might be more successful if he believed in himself. Rudd easily takes on this role, without judging Peter, and it's satisfying to see that he's quite capable of carrying a movie as the lead character.

The emphasis is on the "bromance" between these two guys - their totally straight man-love - and a lot of the humor stems from Peter trying to navigate a male friendship. How to get close but not really intimate? How much of himself should he show? It's an exploration of friendship in general, really (finding the people who bring out the best in us, etc.). It's just a new and funny story because of the ever-changing societal norms that dictate how men should acceptably express emotion and love.

There are funnier movies out there, but I Love You, Man is certainly one of the easiest and most digestible comedies I've seen in a long time. The boys are cute and funny without being over-the-top, and the girls are relatable and funny without being naggy psychos. There's no poop or menstrual blood, but there are lots of silly lines that people will be quoting for a long, long time ("Sleppin' da bayse, mon"). It's like this year's Anchorman or Superbad in that sense - but it's a helluva lot cuter than both of those.

Paul Rudd, Jason Segel and Rashida Jones are the stars of I Love You, Man, but they weren't the only stars we liked to see at the premiere in LA last night. Jon Hamm and his girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt looked relaxed on the red carpet posing as close as ever. Even Audrina got the invite and we may be seeing even more of her - apparently just like Lauren she's ready to quit The Hills after this season and pursue her own reality show about her new career. The bromantic and romantic comedy hits theaters this Friday and check back later this week on Buzz to see the review of the film.
