2009 BAFTA TV Awards: The Winners

The press room was packed last night as the winners and presenters filed through after presenting and picking up trophies at the BAFTA TV Awards. It was an exciting night for Skins stars Kaya Scodelario and Hannah Murray, who beamed as they held up the only award that BAFTA TV Awards audience had voted for, while Kenneth Branagh held up the Drama series award he picked up for Wallander. Other winners included Harry Hill, David Mitchell, The Bill, Mad Men and The X Factor - what an exciting, star-studded night!

Women Dazzle in Blues and Reds at BAFTA TV Awards

The women walked the red carpet in style at the BAFTA TV Awards at London's Royal Festival Hall this evening. Although an array of colours were on display, two colours ruled: blue and red. Tess Daly covered her growing baby bump with blue ruffles, and Fellowship winner Jennifer Saunders also kept her hemline short. Davina McCall and Mischa Barton both took their blue gowns to the floor and looked gorgeous in the evening sunshine.

The red carpet also hosted ladies in red, as many female stars matched their dresses to their environment. Tanya Bryer, Louise Redknapp, Patsy Kensit and Michelle Ryan were all scarlet women in their floor length and fabulous gowns. Do you have a favourite? Sugar Bits - Ioan Gruffudd and Alice Eve Are Expecting!

Ioan Gruffudd and his wife Alice Eve are expecting their first child together. The LA-based British couple met on the set of 101 Dalmatians back in 2002 and married in 2007. Congratulations to Ioan and Alice!- People
Madonna's adoption appeal date has been set for May 4. The case will be heard by three Supreme Court of Appeal judges and it may take up to two weeks. - PopSugar US

Michael Jackson has added more dates to his run at the 02 arena. He now has 37 dates in July, August, September 2009 and January and February 2010. - BBC
Chris Brown has pulled his name from the running in the US Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, where the viewers vote for the winner. He had been nominated for the Male Singer and Song categories. - The Sun
Ryan Adams wed Mandy Moore in Georgia yesterday. The pair got engaged last month after dating on and off for a year. Congratulations to Ryan and Mandy! - NME

Fox to Remake Absolutely Fabulous for the US

I imagine Edina and Patsy would have a few choice words to say about this.
Fox is looking to remake the British comedy Absolutely Fabulous. This new version of the comedy would be set in LA but attempt to retain the essential flavor of "the friendship of two boozy, over-40 best friends who are desperate to stay hip and youthful."

But . . . why?
Alas, that may be the question with no answer. It's not the first attempt at an Ab Fab remake, though: Oddly, Roseanne once wanted to do a remake with Carrie Fisher in one of the lead roles. And if you remember the 1995 CBS sitcom High Society (I don't), apparently it was in essence a US ripoff.

Are there any bright spots here?
Well, maybe. Arrested Development's Mitchell Hurwitz is involved as an executive producer. And the show's being done with the blessing of Jennifer Saunders, who created the British original (and played Edina) and will also produce this one.

Could this possibly work?

Another day, a ton of new London Fashion Week shows to catch up on! This time it was Betty Jackson and there were a bevy of celeb ladies present. I think it's safe to say they were a slightly more mature crowd than the kids at Topshop Unique.

London Fashion Week: Celeb Spotting - Part Five

We're on part five of my celeb spotting at London Fashion Week series, and yesterday there were even more shows from the likes of House of Holland and Betty Jackson, as well as a big charity fashion show called Fashion For Relief, where lots of famous faces took to the catwalk in aid of the White Ribbon Alliance. Heidi Range lost a shoe on the catwalk as she worked it with her Sugababes bandmates, but that didn't stop her grinning as she posed! Cheryl Cole also beamed as she walked up and down the catwalk, but anyone would if they were wearing her enormous new wedding ring.

Daisy Lowe and Naomi Campbell brought some professional model skills to the mix, and Jo Wood, Estelle, Skin, Monica Cruz, Kimberly Stewart, Jamelia, and a show-stealing Cilla Black also worked their inner model alongside hunky male models Tyson Beckford and Paul Sculfor. Elsewhere in London Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn and Sharleen Spiteri were seen clutching Lanvin bags as they left a party, and Coco Sumner was among the guests at Harrods for Andre 3000's clothing launch.

Information

Physical and motor skills milestones for a 5-year-old child may include:

Erupting the first permanent teeth (the majority of children do not get their first permanent teeth until age 6)
Developing increased coordination
Skipping, jumping, and hopping with good balance
Maintaining balance while standing on one foot with eyes closed
Tying own shoelaces
Showing increased skill with simple tools and writing utensils
Can copy a triangle
Spreads with a knife

Sensory and cognitive milestones:

Increasing vocabulary to over 2100 words
Composing sentences of six to eight words, and with all parts of speech
Identifying coins
Counting to 10
Properly naming the primary colors and possibly many more
Questioning more deeply, addressing meaning and purpose
Responding to "why" questions
Behaving more responsibly and apologizing for mistakes
Decreasing aggressive behavior

Visiting local areas of interest
Encourage the child to take responsibility for small household chores such as helping set the table

Information

These milestones are typical of children in the third year of life. Always keep in mind that some variation is normal. If you have questions about your child's development, contact your health care provider.

With physical and motor skills, a typical 3-year-old:

Gains about 4 to 5 pounds
Grows about 2 to 3 inches
Has improved balance
Has improved vision
Has all 20 primary teeth
May have daytime control over bowel and bladder functions (may have nighttime control as well)
Can briefly balance on one foot
May walk up the stairs with alternating feet
Can construct a block tower of more than 9 cubes
Can easily place small objects in a small opening
Can copy a circle
Can pedal a tricycle

In sensory and cognitive skills, a child:

Has a vocabulary of many hundreds of words
Composes sentences of 3 to 4 words
Counts 3 objects
Uses plurals and pronouns (he/she)
Frequently asks questions
Can dress self, only requiring assistance with laces, buttons, and other fasteners in awkward places
Has longer attention span
Feeds self without difficulty
Acts out social encounters through play activities
Has some decrease in separation anxiety for short periods of time
Fears imaginary things
Knows own name, age, and gender (boy/girl)

At age 3, nearly all of a child's speech should be understandable.

Recommendations for parents regarding appropriate play at this age:

Provide a safe play environment and constant supervision.
Encourage and provide the necessary space for physical activity.
Instruct the child how to participate in and learn the rules of sporting activities.
Encourage play with other children to help develop social skills.
Encourage creative play.
Read together.
Limit both the time and the content of television viewing.
Expose your child to different stimuli by visiting local areas of interest.
Encourage your child to learn by answering questions and providing activities related to the child's particular interests.
Encourage your child to learn simple chore such as picking up their toys or room. Welcome their help in small household tasks.
