Trend Alert: Red Dresses

I can't even think about a red dress without the Sugababes singing along in my head. A red dress is a perfect party look if you're aiming to make a statement. It's a classic but more eye catching than a LBD and arguably sexier. Recently it's been worn by many ladies from Rachel Stevens to Rebecca Adlington, with even Suri Cruise getting in on the act! However, you should approach with slight caution as it's not quite as easy to wear as you might think.

Red is such an overpowering colour that it can leave you looking washed out, especially if you have a pale complexion. If this is the case then opt for a deeper shade like Joan Collins. Darker toned girls can go for bright, pillar-box shades. If you're feeling a bit shy then break up the block colour with a black jacket, fur stoll or wrap and remember to keep all accessories simple.

Playing with proportions is key in fashion this season. Not content with puff sleeves or ra ra skirts, designers have taken it to the max this autumn-just think of the Bernard Chandran dress Estelle wore at the MTV Europe Awards last week. If you want an inexpensive route to fashionista status volume is also all the rage as far as hair is concerned. From the rock bouffant dos on the catwalk at Christian Dior to Cheryl Cole's recent foray into 70's glamour puss hair; big is back with a vengeance.

Channel the original 80's doyenne of oversize locks; Joan Collins as super bitch Alexis Carrington in Dynasty (left). All you need for this look is masses of hairspray and lots of back combing. It's time to ditch the straightening irons and opt for gravity-defying creations. Would you work this trend?

Kate Beckinsale looked stunning in white this weekend at the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation fundraiser in London. She was joined by Hugh Grant, Benicio Del Toro, Stella McCartney, Kevin Spacey, and more in support of the charity that helps raise money to help fight cancer in young children. The formal event held at the Stud House at Hampton Court Palace also included adorable Orlando who was clearly turned on by his girlfriend Miranda's very sexy dress. Always the activist, Bono was there with his good friend Mary J. Blige who glittered in gold. Kate looked flawless and her hot husband Len helped her stand out even more since he is a perfect accessory (and how can you not love watching these two so in love?).

Legends Ball Brings Out Lots of Stars

Loads of celebrities donned their best ball outfits and made their way to Battersea for the Caudwell Children's Legends Ball last night. Celebrity Ambassadors for the charitable trust Sinitta and Michelle and Andy Scott-Lee were in attendance, as were Michelle's old Liberty X band mates Kelli Young and Jessica Taylor. Other musicians supporting the charity event included Sandi Thom (who enjoyed a PDA), Sugababes Heidi Range and Keisha Buchanan, and Boyzone - it's a relief to see Keith Duffy after his hospitalisation last week. In addition to young stars like Louisa Lytton and Gemma Atkinson, fittingly a number of legends graced the carpet, including Joan Collins, Jane Russell and Buzz Aldrin. They were entertained by Whitney Houston, who was reportedly paid £1million to sing. What a glittering night for a great cause.

There's A Lot Of Love In The West End For Darius

A bunch of celebs showed up along with the press to see Darius Danesh's debut as Rhett Butler in Gone With The Wind in London's West End yesterday. The boys from McFly were among them – aren't they growing up? If you're wondering where they've been – Harry recently ran the London marathon for charity, raising almost £25,000 so far, and they're playing a few live dates this summer. Well done Harry!

The diverse celeb audience also included Duncan James, Twiggy, Ben Elton, Joan Collins, Michelle Collins and Darius's partner Natasha Henstridge. Darius scored a standing ovation from the audience, but reviews are mixed so far. Will you see it?

The Golden Compass Points to the UK

The stars of The Golden Compass took their fantasy world to the red carpet in London Tuesday night. Nicole Kidman looked flawless (and allegedly botox-free) on Keith's arm, while Hugh Grant was perfectly nonchalant with his undone buttons. Daniel Craig looked stone faced, as did his ex Bond girl Eva Green, but he sounded excited about his new movie. He said, "It's a bit of escapism... and the special effects have come such a long way that it's now possible to go to places that you wouldn't have been able to even five years ago." We could all use a bit of escape during the hectic holiday season and this fantasy adventure could be just the ticket.

Lily Set To Star In New Chanel Ad Campaign

Lily Allen was at Selfridges yesterday celebrating the 100th year of the store. She celebrated alongside London Mayor Boris Johnson, Joan Collins, Erin O'Connor, Jodie Kidd and many others, looking cute in her black outfit and green jacket. Lily will also be celebrating her own news as she's set to be featured in new Chanel adverts. She'll be photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for a handbag ad campaign next week, Karl said he picked her because, "She's fun". Congratulations Lily!

Trend Alert: Red Dresses at 2009 BAFTA TV Awards

Red was appropriately one of the dominant colours at last night's BAFTA TV Awards. The colour looked gorgeous on long sweeping gowns worn by many of the celebrity guests. From Louise Redknapp's tiered number, to Patsy Kensit's mermaid frock to Michelle and Tanya's plunging neckline gowns it proved to be a popular shade! The penchant for a royal coloured ensemble is not a new trend. I noticed it starting to emerge late last year when Joan Collins, amongst others, dressed up in the style.
