Joaquin Attacks Heckling Fan at Rap Performance

Joaquin Phoenix and his now-infamous beard performed at the LIV club at Fontainebleau in Miami last night. Joaquin made his fans wait almost four hours before appearing on stage smoking a cigarette. He began mumbling lyrics unintelligibly, then when someone in the audience apparently heckled him, he jumped into the crowd toward the fan while cursing. When things started to get violent, Joaquin was dragged back on stage by security. As usual, Casey Affleck was there recording the entire event. Most of you think his rap career is a hoax, but this incident leaves us even more confused. Check out the video below.

Do You Think Joaquin's Rap Career Is a Hoax?

After Ben Stiller's hilarious impersonation of Joaquin Phoenix at the Oscars last weekend, the debate about Joaquin's rap career is continuing to heat up. Sources close to Joaquin claim that the whole thing is part of a project he's working on about the importance of appearances in Hollywood and that he's happy that Ben and other actors are giving him attention. On the other hand, many are speculating that Joaquin is mentally ill, though his rep has deemed those rumors to be inappropriate. Only time will tell whether or not Joaquin is just playing a trick on us but tell us - do you think his rap career is a hoax?

Two Lovers: A Bittersweet Snapshot of Modern Love

There's a kind of achy beauty to Two Lovers, a romantic drama about a man who's drawn to two very different women, as it explores the complexities of attraction. Is it better to be with someone who has similar flaws because she "gets" you and is just as messed up as you are? Or is it a recipe for disaster to put together two people who are messed up in similar ways? Why do we become obsessed? Is the kind of love that's intoxicating and devastating better or worse than a calm love full of respect and companionship?

The story belongs fully to Leonard (Joaquin Phoenix), as we see everything from his point of view. Nothing happens unless Leonard sees it (and we see it with him). It's an intimate thing, this perspective. Not only do we root for Leonard, we are living with his decisions alongside him, right from the very first scene - in which Leonard attempts suicide. He jumps into water but eventually surfaces and walks away, back to his parents' apartment in Brighton Beach where we learn that this isn't Leonard's first attempt, and that he is bipolar. The narrative swiftly moves forward as we're introduced to the two women who become the objects of Leonard's affection: Kindhearted family friend Sandra (Vinessa Shaw) and the beautifully damaged Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow). Sandra makes her feelings clear, and Leonard could have a stable relationship with her - along with great joy and support from both families. But Leonard is irresistibly drawn to Michelle, in all her flighty dysfunction, because she's disturbed, confused, and vulnerable - just like Leonard. So, which one should he be with? Basically, Leonard's just a guy who falls for a woman that he perceives to be just like him. She's insecure and self-obsessed - and Leonard loves that with her he's maybe not the most messed-up person in the room. He likes the idea of being two crazy peas in an unstable pod. But then there's Sandra, pretty and loyal and generous. Sandra even says out loud that she wants to take care of Leonard, but these don’t seem to be the right words for him to hear. With Sandra he can have a nice home and family, close to his parents and the family business - he'll be taken care of in every way. But with Michelle he would get to be impulsive and carefree and best of all he'd get to be near her, this unpredictable woman. The thing is, hers are the very qualities that could send him over the edge during a downturn.

The humble, cozy setting of Leonard's parents' apartment in the old Brighton Beach community gives a meaty, slice-of-life feel to it all. His parents are caring and protective but they also have their own lives and a nice circle of friends. They're happy, and they only want what's best for their son. Perhaps because of the feeling of community and tradition within this setting, Two Lovers feels very old-fashioned, like an age-old tale of love and confusion. It's really not a new story but something about it still feels so authentically modern-day. The end result is a dramatic snapshot that's timeless and yet distinctly belongs to our generation.

Joaquin Phoenix Is Still on Manjoyment Break

Joaquin Phoenix continued to own his new scruffy look with his ripped pants and cigarette hanging out of his mouth on a shopping trip with a female friend in LA yesterday. After his bizarre appearance on Letterman last week, the actor left us all wondering whether or not his new rap career is really just one big joke. If Joaquin is just trying to pull a fast one on all of us, he sure seems committed to keeping us guessing for as long as possible.

Who's Crazier?

Is crazy the new black? Speculation has surrounded Joaquin Phoenix for some time. Is his hobo-rapper-gone-Charles-Manson act just that - an act a la Andy Kaufman's performance art - or has he lost it completely? His appearance on last night's Late Night With David Letterman (the place where all new crazies make their debut?) recalls a certain evening in 1987 when Crispin Glover decided to demonstrate his high kick a little too close to Letterman's face. Watching these two videos side-by-side, and assuming neither actor was acting (or even if they were!), who's crazier?

Joaquin and Gwyneth Premiere Lovers After Disastrous Letterman Interview

Gwyneth Paltrow and Joaquin Phoenix posed together on the red carpet at a Ferragamo and Cinema Society hosted screening of their new movie Two Lovers in NYC last night. Gwyn had on another daring outfit while Hilary Duff was happy to be there. Joaquin managed to suit up for the cameras including that of Casey Affleck who is still documenting Joaquin's recent career change from acting to rapping. Earlier in the evening Joaquin stopped by Letterman, though he wasn't much up for chatting. You have to see it to believe it - video after the jump - Joaquin barely answered anything Dave asked which left the talk show host in an awkward position. At one point Phoenix put his gum on the underside of Dave's desk. Joaquin has made it clear he's not messing around with his new rap career, though he might want to think about his interview strategy if he wants to be taken seriously.

Casey and Joaquin Take Flight to Continue the Journey

Casey Affleck followed his brother-in-law Joaquin Phoenix through security at LAX yesterday on their way to the next stop on their bizarre tour. Joaquin's final movie Two Lovers opens this weekend and he has been adamant that his transition from acting to rapping is serious - not a hoax. In fact, he affirms he has no intention to change his mind saying, "I'm not one of those people, like, when I break up with my girlfriend, I don't ever see her again. I see her as friends, but do I ever think about getting back together? No, when I do something, I do it. So I have no intention." Joaquin's first performance as a rapper didn't earn too many fans, but it sounds like he's passionate about the "storytelling" so perhaps some practice is all he needs.

Most of us are worried about Joaquin Phoenix losing it but apparently he has his mind set on being a rapper and he kicked off his debut in Vegas this weekend. Before we saw these videos many said you could not take him seriously as a rapper, and here is his debut as well as an unfortunate post-rap fall offstage.
