Trend Alert: Bright Playsuits

If you're heading to a party this Summer, a playsuit is a fun alternative to a dress. They're funky, on trend, easy to wear and right now, there happens to be plenty of bright coloured options available!

This hot pink version (£260) by Adam would look great with bronzed skin, flats or even a funky pair of gladiator sandals. However, if it's too bold of a hue for you, perhaps you'd be interested in trying a blue tone, since blues tend to compliment most skin tones. Miss Selfridge has a blue cross back playsuit (£22) which would be suitable for casual days.

As presenter of Big Brother Davina McCall has become the mother of reality television. She has got to know many housemates so she was of course invited to the Digital Spy Reality TV Awards last night. For the occasion, Davina wore this season's key garment; the jumpsuit. Her jumpsuit was black, loose and with tuxedo detailing around the neckline. Trend Alert: Silk Jumpsuits

There is a full-on '80s revival on the horizon and it begins with the jumpsuit. They were spotted on catwalks back in September where Stella McCartney celebrated their return in slouchy, soft silk.

Celebrities showed their support for the look in November when Blake Lively and Fearne Cotton both sported the style. Now they have emerged on the High Street and I have rounded up some of the best.

I would strongly recommend going in to a shop and trying a few on as I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by their flattering nature. The baggy shapes are usually the kindest, opt for one with a waist tie to avoid losing all shape.

Team longer styles with killer heels, or if you're feeling brave wear a short jumpsuit with gladiator sandals on warmer days.

Trend Alert: Evening Jumpsuit

Just hearing the word 'jumpsuit' is enough for most people to run for cover and denounce fashion for a lifetime. Knowing this it's not easy to break the trend news to you about the evening jumpsuit, however, it has already made at least three appearances on the red carpet! Last night Fearne Cotton wore a gorgeous black silk jumpsuit for androgynous chic at the Cosmopolitan Women of the Year Awards. Earlier this week Stella McCartney also sported the style wearing a piece from her Spring '09 line. Gossip Girl star Blake Lively has also backed the surprisingly flattering garment wearing a green silk Miss Sixty version.

Although the idea of an evening jumpsuit seems daunting it can be surprisingly flattering. Avoid the boiler-suit style or you might end up looking like a mechanic. Instead opt for a luxe fabric jumpsuit, for example silk, and keep all accessories very simple. If you're worried about it looking too masculine then team with heels, wear your hair down (like Fearne and Blake) and accessories with minimal jewellery.
