How-To: Get Kate Beckinsale's Alluring Hair

Last night at the Allure party for Victoria Beckham, actress Kate Beckinsale arrived wearing her hair in a casual, low-slung bun with delicate braids weaved throughout. What a cool twist! Even though Kate wears hair extensions, (oh, c'mon, like you really couldn't tell by now), the best part about this look is that you don't need to have a lot of hair - or even thick hair - to re-create this style.

STEP 1: Hair can either be freshly washed or day old. If it's freshly washed, add a styling product for malleability and hold.
STEP 2: Pull your hair back into a low ponytail and secure it with an elastic. Gently pull out your bangs, or your shortest layers, and clip them to the side for the time being. Then, take three sections of hair from your ponytail and braid them tightly. Secure the ends with a small-sized elastic the same color as your hair.
STEP 3: Take the remainder of your hair, and section by section, twist, and tuck the pieces under the main ponytail elastic. Secure each section with a bobby pin. Do the same with the braids, but weave them around the bun a little bit so they are more visible. TIP: Be sure to hide the ends underneath the bun so that you don't see the individual elastics sticking out.
STEP 4: Use a large-barreled curling iron to curl your bangs or long layers. Mist your entire head with hairspray and you're ready to go!

Faking a shorter haircut by means of skillfully placed hair pins is nothing new. In fact, we saw Rosario Dawson do her own faux-crop late last year, followed by Nicole Kidman's asymmetric version. In recent times, the look has taken on resurgence in popularity, as celebrities have been tricking us out with their own adaptations, giving the appearance of freshly cut locks. Kate Beckinsale's full-in-the-front updo gave the illusion of an angled wedge at the Whiteout premiere; both Jennifer Lopez and Elizabeth Banks opted for wavy, tousled styles; and Kristen Stewart faked us out at the VMAs with her memorable faux bowl cut. How-To: Kate Beckinsale's Bouncy Ponytail

You have to look posh if you're going to hang out with Posh and Becks - and Kate Beckinsale has managed to do so with a sexy take on the ponytail. I am a big fan of Kate (who else thinks she looks like BellaSugar?) and while she has amazing and thick enviable hair, most likely she's wearing a fall or an extension piece in the back of her slightly teased hair for added fullness.

STEP 1: Tease the crown of your hair slightly so that you have some fullness around your face when your hair is pulled back.
STEP 2: Brush your hair back with a boar-bristle brush to smooth out the surface. Then, gather your hair into a mid-to-high ponytail and secure it with an elastic.
STEP 3: It's time to add the hairpiece. You'll want to use about an 8-12-inch ponytail extension that matches your hair color. (I prefer to use the kind that comes with a jaw clip on the inside for easy attachment.) Clip the extension into the little dimple that your hair makes just above your ponytail then gently brush it through to integrate your natural hair. To ensure that the clip is secure, add in a few bobby pins underneath for extra support if necessary.
STEP 4: Lastly, lightly mist your entire head with hairspray.

Trend Alert: Sleek, Chic Hair at The Golden Globes

The Golden Globes red carpet was filled with so many different beauty looks ranging from tomato stained lips, to loose waves, undone makeup and pink lips, however, the most prominent trend was slick, wet looking updo's. Kate Beckinsale even liked her hair so much from the Critics' Choice Awards that she even gave us a repeat performance. Others like Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek, Megan Fox, and Anna Paquin consistently change their hair, so this style was interesting and fresh.

I would imagine this hairdo is perfect for a nerve-wracking night when the last thing you want to worry about is the way your hair will hold up in the humidity of sunny southern California. I think that all of these ladies are lovely, however, Jennifer's hairstyle is wrapped so tightly, it borders on looking painful. Whose hair do you think was the most glamorous at this years Golden Globes?

Hair How To: Easy Sexy Beach Hair

Hair trends are one thing – from the polished dreadlocks and pirate plaits on the catwalks, to retro styles, like Victoria Beckham's Audrey Hepburn do – but what we all really crave is effortlessly sexy hair, that looks like it's naturally gorgeous – not like we've had to try too hard to re-create it.

Cue the covetable, grown-up version of beach hair. Textured, yet glossy and voluminous, it's the sort of laidback, tousled look that Kates Moss, Middleton and Beckinsale, are often snapped with. Sometimes dubbed Polished Festival Hair – think gutsy, free-spirited almost-waves and a youthful vibe.

Firstly, it's all in the proportions. Volume should be at the ends, not on the head. Aim for a triangular shape on long hair, and try and get the texture and volume in the length, instead of loading up the roots.

It's pretty much a trial and error game, depending on your hair texture, but here's some tips for getting the look: Just read more

Firstly, get a little bit of volume at the roots – otherwise it will just look odd, and too triangular. Blow dry just the roots. At the start, do this with your head upside down if you have thin hair.
Instead of using a brush, just finger comb as you blow dry, or use a wide toothed comb, to get that 'undone' texture.
Once your hair is about 70% dry, spritz it with a texture spray, such as the cult Bumble & Bumble SurfSpray, (£16). The salt, mixed with product, will give you a mussed-up, beach head look.
If you have curly hair, it's best to blow dry the hair straight, using a very large, round brush. Then, once the hair is almost dry, mix the texture spray with a little more water, and spritz hair lightly.
Now, this part depends on your hair texture – for some, leave the rest of the hair to dry naturally, and just twist a few sections around your fingers, like a bored teenager would. If your hair has a tendency to waves, this is all you'll need to do.
If your hair is very straight, or thick, then plait now, and leave to dry. Zoe Irwin, Creative Director at Headmaster's tells Harper's Bazaar, that she does this, and suggests "Running straightening irons up the plaits to give them extra texture. Let them cool, then un-braid them, and finger comb".
Alternatively, try wrapping random sections of hair, around a giant hot tong. Don't wrap all the hair though, just pick certain sections, to keep the look haphazard and textured.
The new buzz words are tousled, tangly, textured and sexily un-done. The more you twist, twirl and generally play with your hair, the better it will look.

English rose, Kate Beckinsale was flying the flag for messy British hair, in America, this weekend, as she shopped with her husband Len Wiseman.

She was wearing a loose, high ponytail, that was messily 'pulled-out'. Her wavy hair looked very laid back, and the front part of the hair was loosely twisted into a casual quiff.

It's great to see Kate looking a little less groomed, as she has previously been criticised for going 'too Hollywood' – but is this taking it too far the other way? What do you think of her hair style?

How-To: Drew Barrymore's Fine Tuned Makeup

Last night in Hollywood, Drew Barrymore, Kate Beckinsale and Robert De Niro arrived at the premiere of their new movie Everybody's Fine looking glamorous as can be. To honour the occasion, Drew even matched her lips to the red carpet standing out in a beautiful purple gown paired with polished hair and smooth, flawless, even skin. FACE: Begin with a clean, exfoliated face and apply an anti-redness moisturiser. Next, blend a makeup primer all over and let it soak in for about one minute. When you're finished, apply your foundation with a brush or a sponge for the most even coverage possible followed by concealer. Then, dust a translucent powder over your face to set the foundation and buff it out well with fluffy brush for a natural finish.
CHEEKS: All you need is a touch of colour on the cheeks so that you don't look washed out. I recommend a winter rose or a warm peach (nothing too apricot) lightly swept over the apples of your cheeks and along the cheekbones.
EYES: Drew is a Cover Girl, and talk about easy breezy eyes - this look is super simple to create! Begin by tweezing and filling in your brows, as they will serve as a frame for your face. Then, curl your lashes and apply two coats of black mascara (false lashes are optional). When it's dry, blend a shimmery cream or powder champagne shadow from your lash line to your crease and blend well - fini!
LIPS: Since lips are the focus of this look, they are going to take more time to pefect than usual. However, don't be intimidated by a bright colour. Begin by using a reverse lip liner just outside the rim of your lips so that the colour doesn't bleed. Then, fill your lips in with red lipliner, red lipstick (use a lip brush for precision) and if desired, top off the look with a clear or sheer red gloss!

Ok, seriously - do all celebrities wear hair extensions? I used to believe the answer was no, but thanks to all of the insight from Sheila Stotts, I'm beginning to think otherwise. The gang from Gossip Girl wear them, as do all of the famous faces from part I and part II of my celebrity hair extension quizzes. Even if these people currently aren't extending their hair, they've at least worn them at some point in their career.
