Katie Holmes: A Fashion Metamorphosis

We have witnessed a fashion metamorphosis. After Holmes' recent Celebrity Style and the announcement that Katie and newfound fashion friend Victoria Beckham, more on that later, are creating a children's clothing line I got to thinking: wait, Katie Holmes was not always a style maven. Now I was not a Dawson's Creek fan, but I did enjoy Katie's performance in the fun-ride-of-a-film called "Go." But no, she never stood out on the red carpet or in glossies as being particularly stylish. She's lucky she has a lovable dimply pretty face because if not, I would have never noticed her (no offense!). But I notice young brimming fashionistas; that's my job and duty in life, after all.

Here's a little retrospective on Holmes. As you can see she has gone from an innocent, blah, slightly pudgy faced youngin' to a svelte and sophisticated lady. Holmes is about my age so I give her some credit after thinking back to what I wore seven years ago. That said, I always had some unique styling going on and it is this she lacks. I believe it's the unique and somewhat risktakers who have innate style.

This first pic is from the '98 Emmys; wait, is that a wedding dress?! The next is a poorly paired asymmetrical dress with a black cardigan - fashion no no - btw: she is at the "Eyes Wide Shut" premiere, coincidence much? Then she did asymmetry right in a lovely white pant outfit but what is with the unpolished hair & furry black clutch? Close, but no cigar. Then, we have the overdose of red look in '04 and under no circumstances is a red dress, red shoes, AND red clutch allowed on a red carpet. Enter metamorphosis. Katie is looking sleek and vibrant in Grecian turquoise with her new hubby - a big improvement. Which brings us to today where vive Le Smoking says it all.

When one marries rich (and famous), becomes BFF with someone named "Posh," and has the fashion world at her fingertips it would seem to me to be pretty easy to quickly adopt some "style." So what is that has made Holmes blossom into a young sophisticate? Money? Fame? A friend/stylist? Or is it personal style and she is embracing her innate talent? Whatever the reason, I've got a suspicious eye fixed on this one to see where her fashion persona goes next. What do you all think?

Some serous heavy hitters showed up at one of the most anticipated events of fashion week: the "A Night to Benefit Raising Malawi and UNICEF" hosted by Madonna and Gucci. There's no doubt philanthropy and fashion mix. Katie Holmes chose to wear a sleek dramatically folded red dress while Gwyneth opted for a big bowed pink mini dress. Which Gucci wins?!

Katie Has Expressive Fashion-Lovers in Both Suri and Tom

Katie Holmes and her mother Kathy brought Suri for an adventure at Quincy Market in Boston yesterday. Suri led the way as usual with her mom and grandmother trailing close behind. Suri looked absolutely thrilled by getting treated to ice cream - her facial expressions are too cute. She is quite the little lady in her long skirt, but she left the high heels at home instead opting for her leopard flats. Suri already has fans of her fashion and Katie opened up to Elle about who else is in charge of the family's style. She said about Tom, "He usually likes everything, but sometimes I'll walk out and he'll say, 'I think that dress might be wearing you. You don't need that.' Tom has great taste." Not a lot of women can get that sort of advice from their husband and it sounds like Katie appreciates that Tom can lend a helping hand in making sure she looks her best.

Katie Holmes led Suri by the hand earlier this morning as they headed into Boston's Yawkey Center for Children and Learning. Well-dressed Suri was in her latest colorful ensemble, after a few days of showing off the latest in pint-sized fashion. Katie looked like she was decked out for a sensible day playing with kids in jeans, unlike the skin-tight leggings and heels she wore last week to the launch of her Holmes & Yang line in LA.

Katie Holmes's 3-year-old sidekick recently strutted her stylish stuff down a Boston street in shimmery shoes. The wee one has worn designer garb since leaving the womb and is often primped and polished, so it's no surprise that her latest footwear selection gives her about an inch on her peers.

When a rumor circulated a while back about the girly girl getting a custom made pair of $2,500 Christian Louboutin shoes, 81 percent of LilSugar readers said the pricey accessory only belonged in a mama's closet. Tom and Katie Pound Pavement Together, Work Apart

Tom Cruise is back in Melbourne after another recent trip to LA for the IMAGEN Awards, and he celebrated his return on Saturday with a run alongside Katie Holmes. The duo often enjoys Australia's natural beauty through their afternoons in the park with Suri, though she skipped this fitness session before they reunited for a night at the theater. Katie's hard at work on Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, but she'll soon be heading to California to debut her Holmes-Yang collection in the latest of her high fashion appearances. Tom, meanwhile, will start filming Wichita this October in Boston with Cameron Diaz and now Maggie Grace.

Katie Holmes Has Her Own Fashion Week

Fresh off the set with her similarly coiffed Tom & Suri, Katie bounced over to Paris for a little solo art shopping yesterday. While overall she looks great in her fall gear, this is definitely an example of her dressing a bit too old for her 28 years. Katie's been too busy in Europe with her family to join her partner in crime Posh at New York Fashion Week, but since she's already overseas I bet she'll be front and center at some of the shows for the upcoming Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks. I doubt that babies are allowed inside the shows - though obviously Suri will find a way to be on the very cutting edge no matter what.

Are You Excited For The Launch Of Katie Holmes' Collection?

Katie Holmes is sure building an impressive CV. It has just been revealed that this singer, dancer, actress, wife and mother can now add clothing designer to her list of duties, as she and her stylist Jeanne Yang are gearing up to launch their first ever clothing collection together this Autumn called Holmes & Yang.

If you remember, last August, I told you that Katie had designed the navy dress that she wore to her hubby's Los Angeles Premiere of Tropic Thunder. At the time, she claimed it was just a one-off item, however, it seems that after being exposed to such incredible fashions as of late, she's decided to give designing a go.

The duo is set to launch a full collection for women and girls that will be sold at Maxfield department store in LA. I can't wait to feast my eyes on these goods. If I had to take a guess, I'd bet the pieces will include sexy, yet reserved, well constructed, well tailored basics. What are you expecting?
