Judging from this photo of Elle Decor’s Women in Design feature, it's clear that Kelly Wearstler is an advocate of busts. She's not alone; I've been wanting one for ages. But from the looks of it, hers are antiques. Antique busts at 1st Dibs - a collective of antique dealers nationwide - range from $2,000 to over $25,000. Sure it's nice to have an original, and art is always an investment. But if like me you want one just for aesthetics, you've come to right place. I know three places you can buy one from as low as $40 to up to $250.

October's Vogue Features Kelly Wearstler's Hollywood Home

Since so many of you have a love it or hate it relationship with designer Kelly Wearstler's unique style, I figured that you'd be interested in taking a tour of her Hollywood mansion. Good news - now you can.

The October issue of Vogue includes a special feature on interior designer Kelly Wearstler’s Hollywood mansion, gorgeously photographed by Francois Halard with a profile penned by Hamish Bowles. Definitely head over to Vogue for the complete tour, and also check out the outtakes, which are only available online.

There are definitely some fascinating facts to be learned, such as her scrupulously color-coded shoes and vintage hats collections, and her use of color (cerulean blue) and pattern (faux crocodile) in her young sons' bedrooms. I know that I find Kelly Wearstler absolutely fascinating (and fabulous), and this Vogue profile only reinforces that impression.

The New Yorker Profiles Kelly Wearstler

The “presiding grande dame of West Coast interior design,” Kelly Wearstler, is featured in a six-page profile in the Sept. 14 issue of The New Yorker.

I've always considered Wearstler (pronounced "Worst-ler") an enigma - wife of a hotel mogul, author, Top Design judge, crimped-hair enthusiast, Southern belle, ex-Playboy model - but her design skill is irrefutable. So, it was interesting to read about how the girl who grew up in a cluttered Myrtle Beach home decorated in a "blowsy Provincial style" became the face of ornate, layered, over-the-top Hollywood Regency style.

"You don’t hire her for her subtlety, you hire her for what her critics call ‘muchness'," said a client. Her style, as it turns out, is governed more by instinct than intellect: "I don't have time to think things through a lot. I just do how it feels," she says. I was also intrigued to hear that she thinks of herself as having "a very European sensibility" that's "well travelled, collected." Pick up a copy to read the full text or read an abstract online.

Love It or Hate It? Oversize Trellis Mural

I thought I was over trellis patterns, after Kelly Wearstler's fretwork fabric for Schumacher became ubiquitous. But, seeing this oversize trellis wall mural in the portfolio of graphic artist and interior designer Jill Crawford makes me realize it's still got a hold on me. On second thought, it might just be the mural that I love. What do you think of it?

Nice and New: Kelly Wearstler For Sferra

Contemporary interior designer and Top Design judge Kelly Wearstler has launched a line with luxury linens maker Sferra. The line includes bedding, pillows, throws, table linens, and napkin rings. Wearstler has pumped up the volume of her soft and subtle color palette with statement-making texture and pattern, such as couture-inspired details like hand-embroidered ribbon, appliqué-embellished silks, and delicate strié. The collection, which ranges in price from $38 to $1,650, is available online, at Neiman Marcus stores, and in specialty boutiques. This wacky tastemaker also has a boutique inside Bergdorf Goodman and a collection of hand-made rugs with The Rug Company, but her Sferra collection marks the first time her products will be available to consumers on a national retail scale. Whether you can afford them, though, that's another conversation altogether . . .

From her new rug designs for the Rug Company, to her post as a Top Design judge, to her new resort development in the British West Indies, Kelly's been a pretty busy gal this year and it's certainly paid off in your minds. I'm always eager to see what else KW's got in store for us, whether it be her kooky sartorial fashions or her residential, hotel and retail interiors.

Halloween How-To: Kelly Wearstler

Just in case you're not interested in going as Jonathan Adler or Simon Doonan this Halloween, I'm also providing you with a more feminine option: Kelly Wearstler.

If you're a Top Design fan, as I am, you probably watch the show in part to check out Kelly Wearstler's kooky sartorial style. I adore her mix of high fashion with vintage finds and her daringly odd clothing combinations. Here, I've recreated Kelly's look from the Window Display episode. If you decide to go as Kelly this Halloween, make sure to do something awesome to your hair (crimping, beehives, and ratting are all acceptable). Rambling to fellow Halloween revelers about your design style is a given, of course. I'd also recommend, for verisimilitude, lugging around a design portfolio with photos of "your" interior designs.

This Just In: Trina Turk Makes Her Foray Into Interiors

After 13 years as a fashion designer, Trina Turk is making her foray into the world of interiors, according to WWD. Armed with new investment capital, she has taken her "vivid signature prints from her classic sportswear to plush pillows, sleek Lucite chairs and other home furnishings." In Spring 2009, Turk will also collaborate with F. Schumacher & Co. "to produce outdoor upholstery fabrics that are resistant to fading, water and stains," bringing her signature style to your outdoor furnishings. Turk is also seeing growth in other areas, venturing heavily into retail rather than primarily wholesale.
Turk's Palm Springs and Los Angeles outposts were designed by none other than Kelly Wearstler, and I couldn't think of a better match. Wearstler really did a fantastic job of emulating that beach and resort style with the casual glamour that is so distinct to Turk's designs. But, I always hoped to see Turk venture into interiors herself, so I'm thrilled that time has now come. Another tidbit of information: Turk's New York City camp was designed by Jonathan Adler. I'm so eager to see these designs: you know how I love my sleek Lucite chairs! Of course, I'll share images with you as soon as heavenly possible.

Midday Muse: Moroccan Lattice Rugs

Browsing through Kelly Wearstler's portfolio, I came across this image of a living room in a Santa Monica residence that she designed. While the traditional/Hollywood Regency style of the space is certainly elegant that's not the reason the photo caught my eye. The West Elm Taksim Tile Rug ($69 and up) suspiciously resembles the one in the Wearstler-designed living room. Considering that her interiors are often marked by luxe furnishings, I wonder if the rug inspired West Elm to design a more affordable alternative. They're both beautiful, and I've actually been drooling over the Taksim Tile Rug for months. I'd be happy to own either one. Would you?
