Country Shines Bright and Taylor Cleans Up at the CMAs!

Last night we gave you a taste of the CMA Awards, and now here's the whole set! For the younger women, it was all about the shine on the red carpet from Taylor Swift's typical beautiful sparkly gown to Carrie Underwood's mirrored number. Carrie was one of the hosts of the night along with Brad Paisley, so once she stepped inside it was all about the costume changes for her. Nicole Kidman had nothing but love for her husband Keith Urban, who was a nominee. Faith Hill and Tim McGraw always look classic together and this was no exception.

Taylor kicked off the show with a wild performance of "Forever and Always" where she threw around her long blond hair as she sang. There were no semi-subtle kisses for Taylor Lautner this time, but the two have a lot to celebrate next time they see each other - she won the biggest award of the night, Entertainer of the Year! She also won for female vocalist of the year, album of the year and music video of the year for "Love Story." Carrie Underwood walked away empty handed, but she and Brad Paisley did a great job hosting the show which included a few jokes at the expense of Kanye West. Kid Rock and Dave Matthews Band were also among the performers at the fun country-filled award show.

The Office, "Koi Pond": Best Lines of the Night and Video!

This week's opening of The Office isn't necessarily a huge spooky surprise since we already got a peek at those costumed spoiler photos, but I still laughed through every minute of the intro. Jim's "Bookface" costume? A-ma-zing.

I sort of wished the rest of the episode followed suit with a Halloween theme, but that's OK, because we still get a great set up with Michael, Jim, and a lobby koi pond - not to mention a ton of quips that had me cackling. Check out my list of faves, and weigh in with your own!

"Kids, just remember suicide is never the answer . . . Why is Christmas the only holiday that can have a message?"-Michael
It's bad enough that Michael Scott has the D*ck in a Box costume, but to wear it - and hang himself - in front of children?! That's even more hilariously inappropriate than usual for him. And am I totally off base, or is Ryan trying to be Edward Cullen?

"I date models - face models. My girlfriend, on a scale of 1 to Gisele? A nine. Pam's carrying our surrogate, because my girlfriend needed to keep her figure for Fashion Week."
Andy and Pam are forced to make cold calls when their sales figures are low, and clients mistakenly think they're married. This is when things get really awkward, leading up to a belly kiss. We normally don't get much interaction between Andy and Pam, but I think they do well as foils.

"The custodian called again. Apparently a koi has died."-Erin
I don't know why a koi pond is so funny to me, but I was giggling at the random jokes about Michael's mishap - yes, even Phyllis's lame, "Did you flounder?" 'Bout time the employees took a few shots at their bumbling boss. Then, when he gathers them into a meeting to make his "mocking" board, the insecurity really flies. Dwight's upset over his small nose, Angela's worried that she eats like a squirrel, and Meredith says she's embarrassed because she . . . had sex with a terrorist? (Um, did I read that right?!)

"The guy was like, Who are your five friends? And I was like, I don't even know . . . . I'm a total loser. Loooooser. Too far."-Michael
I died over this one. Michael tries to save his embarrassment over the koi incident by making fun of himself, and instead, he comes across as pathetic. But "too far" was the real kicker for me.

"Jim is my enemy. But Jim is also his greatest enemy. And the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So Jim is my friend."- Dwight
When the staff watches the security tape from the koi lobby and witnesses Jim actually letting Michael fall in, their loyalty swiftly changes. Dwight so confused, his mind gets blown. I am enjoying this new glimpse into the Michael and Jim work dynamic - by the end of the episode, it seemed like they might actually get along as comanagers. On the other hand, I have to say that I miss the days when Jim was the dude with a sweet crush who liked to pull pranks. Check out the actual video of Jim leaning out of the way:

"Oh, do you mean Marlon Wayans? Cause he is."- Erin
Way to go Erin! I've always sort of viewed her as a background character, but she delivered several funny ones this week. (I'm also loving her right now thanks to her Subtle Sexuality music video.) Do you think the writers are really going to set her up with Andy? Pam seems to be pushing it in that direction - even comparing Andy to Marlon Brando - and I think it's brilliant.

Motherhood: A Harried-Mom Tale That Often Feels Tired

When you have a parenting movie set in New York, you should know better than to expect a warm-'n'-fuzzy story about the joys of having kids. In fact, Motherhood is out to prove that mothers have it rough.

The film follows Eliza Welsh (Uma Thurman), a Manhattan writer dealing with a cramped apartment, busy husband, and side-street parking while raising her two kids. A day in her life feels like a really, really long 24 hours. Eliza runs around frantically trying to prepare for her 6-year-old's birthday while composing an essay for a parenting magazine contest and squeezing in a sample sale with her mommy friend Sheila (Minnie Driver). We know that Eliza was once a great writer, but when she had kids, she decided to give up her job to raise her family. Now, she's a shell of her former self in frumpy clothes and messy hair. Simply put, Eliza is dealing with the classic parent conundrum: how do you care for your kids and still retain something for yourself? The answer? It ain't easy.

Eliza doesn't try to feign martyrdom. In fact, she often whines about her plight in a way that screams, "I'm angry, dammit!" And at first, you're angry for her too. (No woman deserves to put up with all that she does.) But as the film goes on, Eliza's bitterness knocks you over the head, and you have to you wonder - is she like this every day? Yeesh.

Luckily we have Eliza's friend Sheila for some needed comic relief. Sheila is the cool single mom to the more neurotic Eliza - she mouths off cheeky one-liners and uses her son's motorized bath toy for her "alone time." Jodie Foster also delivers a hilarious cameo as a celebrity mom swearing at the paparazzi on the playground - aka, herself. Both women keep Eliza's "what-can-go-wrong-will-go-wrong" storyline from wearing too thin.

Mothers will probably identify with either Eliza or Sheila but what about the rest of us? While the actors perform well and the movie provides laughs for those who can relate (read: parents), most of the jokes don't feel fresh, and you've probably seen similar setups on shows like The Middle or In the Motherhood or any of the other dozens of family comedies in recent years. Props to the filmmakers for giving mothers their due, but if you're not one yourself, an hour and a half with Eliza may be enough to make you rush out of the theater and buy birth control.

George Clooney Is Eyeing His Buddy Brad Pitt's Many Kids

George Clooney brought Elisabetta out for the premiere of The Fantastic Mr. Fox at the opening gala of the BFI Film Festival in London today. The two were joined by good friend Cindy Crawford as well as George's costar Jason Schwartzman. At this morning's press conference, George joked about playing the father fox on-screen, even saying he's looking to have some kids of his own. He said, "I'm going to adopt some of Brad Pitt's kids. I owe him a few," and talked about how much fun they had making the movie, "It was like going to camp. We were out in the middle of nowhere on people's farms, doing sound effects and rolling around in the fields." George still knows how to deflect questions about his love life and settling down, but it seems like Elisabetta is becoming a staple red carpet date as he moves his way through three movie's worth of promotion before December.

George Clooney Brings Jokes to a Fantastic LFF Opening

George Clooney changed out of his casual clothes into black tie for The Fantastic Mr Fox premiere at the opening of the London Film Festival in Leicester Square last night. He was joined by Elisabetta Canali, who wore a black outfit like Cindy Crawford and Myleene Klass, while Sophie Dahl matched her dress to the red carpet. Sophie's step-grandmother Felicity was also at the premiere, and said the author of the original book Roald Dahl would have loved it. Earlier in the day George attended a press conference at the Dorchester Hotel with his costars Bill Murray, Jason Schwartzman, Jarvis Cocker and director Wes Anderson, and joked about adopting Brad Pitt's kids after Jarvis had to explain to him what "broody" meant

Glee-ful Highlights From This Week's Episode, "Vitamin D"

Just when you thought Glee couldn't get any wackier than baby buying and middle-aged students, they go and take uppers. Yup, this week's episode didn't disappoint in the hilarity department, from the A-Rod steroid jokes to Sue's dear diary moment. I do wish there could have been more performances, though there were some serious strides in the story lines, particularly with Will and Emma.

After laying low on last week's episode, Sue is back with a vengeance. Not only does she convince Terri to take a position at school, but we also get a peek into her psyche during her ~~diary~~ journal-writing session. Call me crazy, but I never pegged her for the pensive writer type. Sue is actually the mastermind behind the boys/girls sing-off, thanks to some words of wisdom she passes on to Will over lunch. Check out her little speech in the video below.
Speaking of the lunchroom, can we talk about Will and Emma for a second? They really kick things up a notch this week, starting with the mustard incident and ending with a teary-eyed moment after Emma breaks the news to Will about her engagement to Ken. I know that Terri is insufferable (not to mention ridiculous), but it still seems out of character for Will to even consider a relationship with Emma - for all he knows, there's still a mini-Schu on the way!
Rachel and Quinn share a very tender, bonding moment by the lockers this week but will it last? They seem to be making headway, but I just can't imagine that they'll stay civil forever - it's only a matter of time before Finn's girl situation ("I like Rachel in a Swimfan kinda way) puts the ladies at odds once again.
It's Finn and his sleepy eyes that bring on the biggest laughs, after a little help from Nurse Terri. From the moment the boys vs. girls competition begins, you know that there are going to be some sneaky tactics involved, but "performance enhancers?" Too good. How amazing are the musical numbers with the kids flailing around on stage, while Mr. Schu has no idea what's actually going on? I particularly loved Rachel's little monologue ("Also, angels!") and Finn's dance moves. Check out a video of the guys' performance below.

I can't help but feel for Mr. Schu at the end of the episode: his wife is a nut, his true love is engaged to someone else, and now he has Sue for a glee club partner. He's punished for the secret that his kids kept from him, and I can only imagine what's going to happen when he inevitably discovers that Terri's been lying to him all this time too; though perhaps that's exactly the exit he needs to finally be with Emma.

VH1 Divas: Miley Calls Kanye Disrespectful, True Blood's Sam Takes on Twilight's Jacob, and Paula Channels Ellen!

The star-studded VH1 Divas kicked off last night at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and new diva-inductees like Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, Miley Cyrus, and Kelly Clarkson walked the red carpet in their glamorous gowns. Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port looked gorgeous and sparkly, and we'll have more on LC's possible LA Candy movie deal later. Miley weighed in on the Taylor/Kanye incident, calling him out as disrespectful. Kelly also had some things to say about it as well as the Paula/Ellen change on American Idol. Sam Trammell, who plays Sam Merlotte on True Blood, also told us he thinks his shape-shifter character could take on Taylor Lautner's Jacob - check out the interviews below!

Paula Abdul opened the night with a surprise performance and jokingly introduced the live show saying "I'm Paula Abdul and this is NOT American Idol." Later in the night she came out dressed as Ellen DeGeneres, dancing across the stage before saying "All kidding aside - [I have] nothing but love for Ellen, and I wish you the best of luck and congratulations on your new gig." There were many performances and duets to enjoy, like Jennifer Hudson and Stevie Wonder, as well as solos by all the divas like Jordin Sparks. Miley on Taylor/Kanye VMA incident: "I think it's just disrespectful so I think the best thing is - I probably would have done what [Taylor] did and just walk away from it because she looks better than he does."
Sam on Sam Merlotte vs. Jacob Black: "Is he tall? I think he's really tall . . . Oh is that just in the movie? I could probably take him because I could just turn into some huge animal and just take him. Yeah, I could just turn into a big bull and take him."
Kelly on whether she has words of encouragement for Taylor Swift: "I don't think she needs any. She handled it really well and she's just a really sweet girl. I love Taylor and she knows I do. I keep asking her to write me some songs, I love her writing. The whole situation in general was the straw that broke the camel's back. Not only that situation. Unfortunately Kanye was the straw that broke the camel's back. But there's a lot of crappy things that go on in the industry and it's just not right. This is supposed to be fun. We're not scientists, we're not doing anything mind-blowing. We should all be having fun and complimenting each other and lifting each other up. I don't get it."
Kelly on taking stage with Paula, and Paula leaving Idol: "I'm used to that! We've been doing off and on for seven years; we all end up at the same shows. So I'm so used to seeing her everywhere. I don't even know enough about [Paula leaving Idol] but I think she's probably ready. I mean they've done like nine seasons. It's pretty cool she's going off and doing something on her own and right after it she's hosting VH1 Divas. Oh my God, she's performing and I saw rehearsals and it's insane. I'm like a 12-year-old again and singing 'Straight Up.' We're all dying backstage."

Seinfelds Prevail Over Sneaky Chef in Lawsuit

She may have a famous comedian for a husband, but that's not the only reason Jessica Seinfeld is laughing all the way to the bank. Yesterday, a federal judge tossed out another author's claims that Seinfeld had copied from her cookbook. Seinfeld made a name for herself with Deceptively Delicious, a cookbook that encourages tricking kids into eating healthier food.

Six months before Seinfeld's tome was published, Missy Chase Lapine, author of kiddie tome The Sneaky Chef, warned Seinfeld not to print Deceptively Delicious, citing content similarities. When the book hit the press, Lapine sued the Seinfelds on counts of defamation and plagiarism.The judge ruled that the works are distinct, and that Jessica's book has a "completely different feel." She did leave open claims of defamation against the defendant's husband, Jerry Seinfeld, who made fun of Lapine on Letterman.

While Jerry Seinfeld probably shouldn't cracked a public joke about Lapine, I believe the right decision was made - but maybe that's just because I'm partial to the Seinfelds. Do you think justice was served?
