Taylor and Leighton Keep Warm and Friendly Filming GG

Leighton Meester chatted on her phone still wearing her glasses while Taylor Momsen greeted some young fans between takes filming Gossip Girl in Brooklyn yesterday. Chace and Jessica also braved the cold in many layers. On this week's episode, the biggest treat was getting to see Leighton act with her real life boyfriend Sebastian Stan who sidled up to her at the bar - the up and coming actor could also be seen starring in NBC's new drama Kings. While we welcomed back our guilty pleasure and enjoyed all the enviable fashion, hopefully, the show is back to form next week after tying up some loose ends.

Celebrity Apprentice: Was the Right Candidate Fired?

The second season of The Celebrity Apprentice kicked off last night with a dramatic bang. There was as much friction on the men's team as the women's team, which made for two hours of arguments and irritated celebrities. Speaking of teams, the team names chosen were almost as random as last season's choices: the women chose Athena as their collective name, which made a little sense, while the men chose Kotu (Kings of the Universe). Moving on.

Donald Trump challenges the teams to bake and sell cupcakes, design a mobile sales center, and go all over NYC selling cupcakes. As with all challenges, the team that makes the most money wins. While Annie Duke and Joan Rivers heat up the kitchen with friction (Joan compares her to Mussolini), Andrew Dice Clay makes it easy for most of his team to want him gone. He whines incessantly from the start, first about the fact that Trump didn't provide any breakfast for them and then about how he "hates" baking cupcakes.

Athena beats Kotu in the first challenge, sending the men to the boardroom. Project manager Herschel Walker brings Andrew and Dennis Rodman back to face the Trumps, and it gets ugly when Herschel calls Andrew a has-been. It seemed that Andrew was the obvious choice for getting fired - aside from the fact that he said he wanted to quit at one point, Herschel raised the most money that day, and Dennis is the biggest celebrity on the show. Do you agree with Trump's decision?

Feeling Bad For Britney

Even Donald Trump and Stephen King have expressed their two cents about the world of Britney Spears. Donald wrote a note on his blog where he sounded like he is rooting for the old Britney we love to return just as much as we are. Stephen King wrote in his EW article that he understands her pain of having to deal with the paparazzi. He too feels bad for her yet for some weird reason he can't stop watching to see what this girl will do next just like all of us. Check out what Stephen wrote about her Dateline interview:

I felt bad for Poor Brit, who looked very young, very pregnant, sometimes very bewildered, and on several occasions pretty dumb. (Losing the gum might have helped.) I felt bad for feeling even a little concerned about her problems, when hundreds of thousands of people are starving in Darfur. I felt bad for Matt Lauer, who looked too smart for the job he was doing. And I felt bad for NBC, who that night gave half an hour to the world's problems at dinnertime and an hour to a slightly over-the-hill pop princess during prime time. Yet there I was. Hell, I even took notes.

I really want to have sympathy for Britney Spears. And I hate to give the impression that I'm picking on her. But not long ago Britney went on television with Matt Lauer on NBC's "Dateline," pleading for her privacy.

She admitted that she was an emotional wreck but the interview ended up being an incredible train wreck. First, Britney looked terrible. Her skirt was too short. Her makeup was messy. When she opened her mouth, it only got worse. She blamed the paparazzi for her bad image. She didn't admit that she made a mistake by driving with her baby on her lap.

And even though she described her marriage to her husband as awesome, somehow Kevin never managed to show up for the interview. Now I have a problem criticizing Kevin because he goes around and tells people that Donald Trump is his hero. The fact is, it is a pretty strange relationship.

During that interview, Britney complained about all the media attention and tearfully begged to be left alone. I almost bought it.

Until I saw her posing nude - and very pregnant - on the cover of the most recent issue of Harper's Bazaar. She has absolutely nothing to promote - no new record, no movie, no book. So, to a lot of people, it sounds like the only possible thing she could be doing is trying to keep her name in the news.

Inside the magazine, the layout includes a photo of Britney in a backless evening gown carrying her son...and another shot of her lying down on a fur coat wearing nothing but a G-string.

Britney has seen better days. She performed four or five years ago at the Trump Taj Mahal and she was great. Now it seems as if everything's slipping away from her. Britney, don't let that happen. Don't let it slip away. Keep your head on straight.

Let's get one thing straight, okay? In that strange, vulgar, brightly colored section of the popular culture known as Celebrity World, the paparazzi are the lowest form of human life. I have been touched by them only peripherally, and it's been years since I really engaged their flea-like attention, yet recalling their exuberant shouts - ''Hey, Stephen, look over here! Stephen, just one more! Hey, Stephen, where ya goin'?'' - is still enough to make my skin prickle with shame and fury. The intrusion is part of it, the sense of entitlement is more of it, but the constant bray of your first name is the worst of it. They use your first name the way the cops on The Shield do when they're interviewing child molesters.

So when Britney Spears finally broke down during her interview with Matt Lauer on the June 15 version of NBC's Dateline celebrity grope, I wasn't surprised that it was the paps who pushed her over the edge. When asked what she would say to them if she could talk to them as individuals - a ridiculous idea in itself, since when working the paparazzi travel in packs, like hyenas, and when alone they don't exist - Britney replied, ''[I'd tell them] You have babies at home.... You have to realize that we're people.... We just need privacy and we need our respect.''

Never going to happen. And surely Poor Brit, who turns the waterworks off just as quickly as she turns them on, knows this. She has never projected a tenth of Madonna's savoir faire, getting by on a kind of puffy cheerleader charm that isn't in the same league as the Material Girl's come-here-darling-and-let-me-eat-you-alive sensuality, but that doesn't make her stupid. She began setting off flashbulbs at the age of 17, in that oh-baby schoolgirl's outfit. Now she's stuck trying to explain pics of herself driving with her child in her lap and looking like Ms. Yuma Trailer Park of 2006. It's a little embarrassing, but hey, anyone who appears on national TV in a low-cut see-through purple maternity blouse can apparently deal with embarrassment.

And, like Stacy's Mom, Brit's got it goin' on. Let's review the highlights:

Asked about motherhood, she told Lauer, ''It's amazing!''

Asked about appearing on Will & Grace: ''Awesome! So hilarious!''

Asked about marriage to Kevin Federline, he of the coolly slanted little hats: ''Awesome! He's so simple! He's like a boy! His heart is...awesome!''

She also said Kevin is ''working very hard.'' (I'm wondering if that means he's the yard boy, because he's certainly not in this interview.)

Explaining why she was driving with her kid in her lap: ''We're country!''

Every now and then, intercut with the blouse-y, gum-chewing matron who spouts such platitudes as ''Accidents happen'' and ''Love conquers all,'' we glimpsed the light-footed pop princess with the gamine grin that was always her best feature. Even more briefly we saw the ugly paparazzi feeding frenzies that probably ensue every time Britney hits the street...and one image, almost as stark as a police crime-scene photo, of a red-eyed, red-nosed Britney holding her baby to her chest, seeming to ask the camera, Where am I? Who am I? How did I get here? Why are you looking at me?

The answers, in brief, are these: You are in public; you are a pop creation now entering the final third of your active performing career; you got here as a result of youth, publicity, and prurient interest. The answer to the last question is the most unpleasant. We are looking at you, Brit, because we cannot yet look away.

Ms. Spears has enjoyed a fantastically successful career; Matt Lauer was correct in pointing out that ''she's already made her mark in the music world.'' That mark, however, may be drawn in sand rather than concrete. Seven years ago ...Baby One More Time sold 10.5 million albums, and in 2000 Oops...I Did It Again sold 9.2 million. By 2003, however, In the Zone sold only 2.9 million. For most artists, 2.9 million is hardly an ''only,'' but for Brit it's still a drop of 7.6 million units.

Her continued visibility - and, hence, popularity - seems to hinge on the very press that has sliced her up again and again these last few years. The Harper's Bazaar (pregnant, no less!) cover girl obviously understands; during her interview with Lauer, she talked about her life almost exclusively in terms of how she had been depicted in the press, and the interview itself was clearly an attempt to redirect the spin.

In the end, this edition of Dateline was just an hour of feel-bad TV. I felt bad for Poor Brit, who looked very young, very pregnant, sometimes very bewildered, and on several occasions pretty dumb. (Losing the gum might have helped.) I felt bad for feeling even a little concerned about her problems, when hundreds of thousands of people are starving in Darfur. Selma Blair, Her Jumpsuit and Hellboy II: The Golden Army

Selma Blair slipped into a sexy black jumpsuit for Saturday's LA premiere of Hellboy II: The Golden Army. She didn't have any date on her arm, but looked happy to cuddle up to director Guillermo del Toro on the red carpet instead. Jamie King showed off yet another new hair color, what do you think? While sultry Selma's big movie hits theaters in a couple weeks on July 11, there's more good news about her upcoming new TV show with Molly Shannon, Kath and Kim. NBC ordered six more hours of episodes bringing the total to 13. Action star Selma is fun and all, but I really can't wait to see her dry sense of humor on the small screen.

Sugar Bits – Kids Love Miley

Celebrity Apprentice: A Knight on Broadway

To my surprise, I was entertained by last night's episode of Celebrity Apprentice even though Gene Simmons wasn't part of it. Phew! I thought the show would go down the tubes without witty Gene, but a couple of people stepped up their game. Or maybe the edits were so skewed to feature Gene in past episodes that we missed out on traits like Stephen Baldwin's manic giggle?

The challenge last night was to sell Broadway tickets to four shows to raise money for, of course, charity. The guest judge was none other than Vince McMahon, and Marilu Henner admitted to the camera that she thought Vince was cute. Funny, I wouldn't have pinned him as her type. Vinnie Pastore was the project manager for Hydra and Marilu was Empresario's project manager.

Empresario's record was 0-3 so they were extra motivated for this challenge. The women were all business and Nely Galan went as far as saying that her black book was better than Gene's because she had Latinos. Is it just me or does it always seem like her lipstick is freshly applied?

Everyone calls their rich friends and the candidates seem really into the challenge. David Hyde Pierce shows up to help Empresario promote the show for which he won a Tony, Nely's connections donate $5,000, Trace Adkins calles a woman that he met last week and she donates $5,000, and in a nail-biting finish two flight attendants from Virgin bring Piers Morgan a check for $10,000. Bob Sagat pays a visit to Hydra but doesn't say anything crass. Bummer.

I think Piers just took the cake as King Arthur and loved how many times Vinnie said "boom" in such a short time. Back in the boardroom, Vince McMahon announces that the women raised $31,757 and Ivanka broke the news that the men raised $33,300. The men won again! Hydra votes Piers as this week's MVP and I'd have to agree.

Marilu thinks the problem is that the men are always giving 100 percent and the women have a big imbalance. Jennie Finch and Carol Alt had the "garbage jobs" that nobody else wanted, and Omarosa thinks Carol should go because she "flies below the radar." Carol retorts that "Omarosa is weak because she tries to make others feel insecure by exploiting their weaknesses." Good point. Cleavage is becoming Omarosa's signature accessory.

In the judges' deliberations Ivanka says that Marilu is Empresario's only hope and I think she's right. Jennie and Carol join Marilu in the boardroom, and Jennie admits that she can't compete and isn't accustomed to such a harsh environment. Donald fires Jennie and tells her that it just isn't her world, but he likes her world better. Everyone agrees that firing Jennie was the right choice, including me.

Celebrity Apprentice: Mr. Outside the Box

Last night's episode of The Celebrity Apprentice was only entertaining because of Gene Simmons's out-there commentary. Oh, and of course the major shock of who Donald fired. I'll still be tuning in each week, but the challenge last night was a total let down after the last two episodes. In order to enjoy a reality show where the contestants have nothing to really gain or lose, the challenges need to be interesting enough for me to really care about the show.

The challenge this week was a marketing campaign for Kodak and the contestants were judged on originality, brand messaging, and profit. Jim Cramer was the guest judge, Boo Ya!
Donald gave Gene Simmons the option of being the project manager for Empresario and he, of course, took it. Gene told his new team that he's a "benevolent dictator" and the camera that he's "the king of all women." Tito Ortiz took responsibility to lead team Hydra.
Gene declared himself "Mr. Outside the Box" and didn't feel the need to meet with the Kodak executives so he just sent Nely Galan and Carol Alt. Nely interrupted the executives every two seconds. Meanwhile, Hydra met with Kodak and got their message of "affordable ink" perfectly.
The men had a photo shoot for their "knockout deal" campaign featuring Tito and Lennox Lewis. Stephen Baldwin walked and walked all over the boardroom taking pictures from above, and coffee spilled on their laptop holding all the artwork when everyone gets off the table.

When facing the Trumps and Jim Cramer, Omarosa (and her cleavage) pointed out that Gene doesn't even know the name of the printer they were marketing. She was right.
Hydra won the challenge, even though their presentation was sloppy, because they got the message right. Donald asks Gene to pick two people to bring back to the boardroom, and he wanted to choose only Omarosa.
Donald said that Gene can't simply pick Omarosa because he doesn't like her, so Gene brought Jennie back as well. Donald basically tells Gene that he should bring back Nely, but for some reason he doesn't comply.
Gene Simmons ends up being fired, though it was obvious that wouldn't have been the case if Nely were one of his choices. Donald called Gene "the most independent thinker there is."
Jim Cramer was baffled and said "I can't believe what I just saw." Donald responds, "We had no choice."

They really didn't have a choice. I think this was Gene's way of taking the blame for losing the challenge. He knew if he brought Nely back that she'd be fired. I'll miss his one liners, and now I need someone else to pick as a favorite to win it all.

The Apprentice: Martha Stewart (Wednesdays at 8pm)

E-Ring (Wednesdays at 9pm)

Inconceivable (Fridays at 10pm)
This delightful ensemble drama concerns one of the most complicated questions: to conceive or not to conceive. The doctors of the Family Options Fertility Clinic are on a noble quest to help desperate couples give birth. Except these doctors are often distracted by their personal quests involving sex, deception and secrets. Navigating through ultrasounds and super-egos, missing frozen embryos and impending malpractice suits, it's positively clear that life inside this clinic is anything but sterile. Four Kings (a midseason replacement)
From the creators of Will & Grace comes this comedic tale of four life-long friends on the cusp of adulthood: Barry, Bobby, Ben and Jason couldn't imagine life without one another. Since childhood, these bosom buddies haven't spent so much as a birthday apart. Now, adulthood begins drawing these Four Kings knee-deep into situations that aren't always so easy to escape. Cast: Josh Cooke, Shane McRae, Todd Grinnell, Seth Green, Kiele Sanchez.
Thick and Thin (a midseaon replacement)
From Emmy Award-winning producer Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live) comes this comedy about Mary, a formerly fat woman embarking on a new journey as a newly fit and single woman. Trouble is, Mary's (chubby) family and friends still see her as her old self - and keep trying to feed her. What Mary is just starting to realize is that getting thin was less about pleasing others and more about being comfortable in her own skin.
