Theater casting makes big news when a high-profile actor is involved, such as today's news that Keira Knightley is set to make her debut on London's West End in the play Misanthrope.
I'm well aware that Broadway and the West End don't need movie stars to boost the caliber of talent in their productions, but people do seem to sit up and take notice when a movie star decides to take an onstage role. Remember when Katie Holmes boosted the notoriety of Broadway's All My Sons?
Keira Knightley to Tread the Boards in West End
Keira Knightley is set to make her West End debut in December. She will play an American film star opposite fellow Brit Damian Lewis in Moliere's The Misanthrope, which is due to open at the Comedy Theatre on 17 December and run until 13 March. Keira has already started preparing for the role ahead of official rehearsals next month, and has reportedly been working with a voice coach and taking singing lessons to help with projection.
Keira and Rupert Bring Their Love Around London
Keira Knightley and Rupert Friend cuddled up for a walk around London this week. The happy couple was out soaking up the Summer sun together, just a few days after a late night out toasting a short film they worked on together called The Continuing and Lamentable Saga of the Suicide Brothers.
