Are You More Interested in Theater If a Big Name Is Involved?

Theater casting makes big news when a high-profile actor is involved, such as today's news that Keira Knightley is set to make her debut on London's West End in the play Misanthrope.

I'm well aware that Broadway and the West End don't need movie stars to boost the caliber of talent in their productions, but people do seem to sit up and take notice when a movie star decides to take an onstage role. Remember when Katie Holmes boosted the notoriety of Broadway's All My Sons?

When I'm buying tickets, I usually choose based on the title rather than the name attached, but every now and then I can't help myself (like when Sarah Jessica Parker hit Broadway in Once Upon a Mattress). What about you?

Keira Knightley to Tread the Boards in West End

Keira Knightley is set to make her West End debut in December. She will play an American film star opposite fellow Brit Damian Lewis in Moliere's The Misanthrope, which is due to open at the Comedy Theatre on 17 December and run until 13 March. Keira has already started preparing for the role ahead of official rehearsals next month, and has reportedly been working with a voice coach and taking singing lessons to help with projection.

Set in modern-day London (rather than the original 17th century Paris), the play will be directed by Thea Sharrock, who directed Daniel Radcliffe in Equus. With Jude Law and Sienna Miller currently on Broadway, and Daniel Radcliffe heading that way too, I'm really excited that at least one of our major stars will be on stage in London, what about you?

Keira and Rupert Bring Their Love Around London

Keira Knightley and Rupert Friend cuddled up for a walk around London this week. The happy couple was out soaking up the Summer sun together, just a few days after a late night out toasting a short film they worked on together called The Continuing and Lamentable Saga of the Suicide Brothers. It looks like Keira was making the most of her day off from her current project, London Boulevard, which she's been working on with Colin Farrell for the past few weeks.

Keira was at the premiere to support her boyfriend Rupert Friend, who had his costar Emily Blunt on his arm on the red carpet. Keira has a few of her own new movies to look forward to - she'll be playing a cloned girl in Never Let Me Go after costarring with Colin Farrell in London Boulevard.

Emily, Rupert and Beatrice Act Up For The Young Victoria

Emily Blunt shimmered on the red carpet at the premiere for The Young Victoria in London last night, while her costar Rupert Friend attended the premiere afterparty with his girlfriend Keira Knightley. Emily said it's hard to adjust to her rising public profile in anticipation of the movie, saying, "It's weird to see us all over buses. It is very strange for me but this feels like the most rewarding film I've ever been a part of and I'm just glad that people will get to see it now." Sarah Ferguson - who had the original idea for the film and co-produced it - also walked the press line with her daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

Beatrice has her first acting role in the movie as a non-speaking lady in waiting, and looked striking in a bold blue dress, and Eugenie wore some funky on trend zip back heels. Other castmembers and guests at the afterparty included Miranda Richardson, Jim Broadbent, Ben Barnes and Sir Ben Kingsley.

Keira Keeps it Incognito on London Boulevard

Keira Knightley looked like she was going undercover on the set of London Boulevard in her hat, sunglasses and coat yesterday. We've also seen Colin Farrell filming scenes for the movie, which stars Anna Friel and David Thewlis too, so I'm looking forward to seeing all the stars together. Keira's been hard at work filming Never Let Me Go, but with her desire to balance her career and personal life, she'll no doubt be making time for kisses with Rupert.

Beautiful, Bankable Keira Supports Boyfriend in Berlin

Keira Knightley took to the red carpet in a Chloe trouser suit in Berlin yesterday to support her man, Rupert Friend, who was premiering his new film Cheri with his costar Michelle Pfeiffer. The lovebirds didn't pose together at the screening, but went on to Einstein restaurant for dinner afterwards. Keira keeps getting a spot in polls of the acting world, and along with Shia LaBeouf is the youngest on Forbes's most bankable stars survey, ranking 42nd with Will Smith at number one. She's also taken eighth spot in Sky+ HD's most timeless beauties list.

Keira and Kanye Join Karl at the Couture Shows

The Spring couture shows continued today in Paris with a few celebs on hand to take in the fashion fun. Keira Knightley looked a bit fancier than last week in her tweed pencil skirt as she showed off a new style of bangs alongside Karl Lagerfeld at the Chanel presentation - here's a look at what he sent down the runways. Kanye West also chatted with Karl before moving on to see Christian Lacroix's offerings. They kept things a little more tame than Mischa did during her time in the city, but Kanye does have business to attend to while he's in France.

Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller stayed close at the British Independent Film Awards at London's Old Billingsgate Market yesterday. Having been spotted with Balthazar Getty in London last week, Sienna looked happy to enjoy a girls' night with her The Edge of Love costar. Reports suggest she's agreed to give Balthazar a second chance if he woos her the old-fashioned way with romantic dinner dates and flowers. Anna Friel looked gorgeous is her floor-length print dress, and James McAvoy looked happy next to wife Anne-Marie Duff. Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner with three awards, including Skins' Dev Patel's Most Promising Newcomer.
