Hanging Out On Set With Josh Duhamel!

The film Life As We Know It is being filmed a few houses down from mine and I have been watching the filming for a few months now. Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel star in the film. My son and I walked up to watch the filming a few weeks ago and I took this shot between takes. Josh was playing football with the neighborhood kids and was a very friendly guy.

Reese Steps Confidently Back Onto the Plate

Reese Witherspoon was in Philadelphia recently to film How Do You Know?, and she brought her softball skills back to LA to keep working on the film. She was decked out in a USA team jersey yesterday, as she went to bat and rounded the bases. It was her second afternoon of fitness in a row, after Tuesday's jog with a friend. Reese always looks like she's in great shape, and she's surely able to keep up with her buff action-hero boyfriend Jake.

Know Your Ingredients: Shortening

While baking apple pie, I enlisted the help of my boyfriend, who took notice of the substantial amount of Crisco that was going into the pie dough. What exactly is shortening? he wanted to know. When I couldn't give him a solid answer (no pun intended), I decided it was time to find out.

The term shortening generically refers to any baking fat that's solid at room temperature, like butter and margarine. But more often, it describes a semi-solid fat made from hydrogenated vegetable oil that's used in baking to achieve a "short," or flaky, texture.

By adding hydrogen gas to vegetable oil at a high pressure and temperature, the flavorless substance goes from being a liquid to a solid at room temperature.

Although shortening has fallen out of favor in recent years because it contains trans fat, the ingredient remains a staple around the world for many reasons. It has a higher smoke point than butter or margarine, meaning it won't burn in a sauté pan. It also requires no refrigeration, and can lengthen the shelf life of baked goods. Reese Logs Another Late Night on Set

Reese Witherspoon was back in Philadelphia last night to film How Do You Know? with Paul Rudd. She's been hard at work on the movie for the past few months, though occasionally Jake Gyllenhaal has been around to provide some handsome distraction. Reese was able to take a few weeks off to chill in LA with her kids Ava and Deacon, who are currently being taken care of by their dad Ryan as they ease back into their school-day routine.

Berlusconi's Mistress Tells Us More Than We Need to Know

Italians really take their sex scandals to the next level. Today, Patrizia D'Addario, former call girl mistress to Italy's "I'm no saint" prime minister, adds a "lesbian dimension" to her tale of sex, power, and retaliation.

Patrizia has a book coming out and excerpts reveal that she has been the target of threats, robbery, and violence after going public about her affair with Silvio Berlusconi. But that's not stopping her. Describing a party held at Berlusconi's home, Patrizia shares the prime minister's preference for white silk pajamas and women who like other women. Patrizia writes:

"Other girls arrived, including a pair of lesbians, and a few other escorts. . . My first thought was that I'd found myself in a harem. He was on the couch and all of us, 20 girls in all, were at his disposition."

While the presence of lesbians probably seems relatively inconsequential, it might upset Italian citizens who were otherwise willing to dismiss heterosexual escapades. And as the Guardian reports, Berlusconi can say good-bye to a recent break from bad press: "The publication of D'Addario's book will divert public attention back to the affair after a period in which the focus had been on another sex scandal involving the former center-left governor of the region around Rome. Piero Marrazzo resigned after being filmed taking drugs and having sex with a transsexual." Mama mia.

Katherine's Life as She Knows It Has Changed Dramatically

Katherine Heigl joined up with her Life as We Know It costar Josh Duhamel yesterday in Atlanta. Earlier in the afternoon, she stepped out of her hotel with newly adopted daughter Naleigh - ICYMI, check out all the adorable photos! Naleigh was still by her mom's side for the afternoon of work, though sadly we didn't get a peek at her little face this time around. Katherine and Josh were busy rehearsing scenes that show them as new parents adapting to life with a child, a plot that should make Katherine feel right at home.

Needless to say, I have a ton of active social networking accounts out there. Sometimes I even forget which ones I belong to! So when I discovered KnowEm, I was relived to be able to check a plethora of social networking sites for my user name, not only to remind me which sites I have an account with but to also make sure someone isn't going around stealing my moniker or worse - my identity.
