Paris Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Lanvin

I just died and went to Lanvin's heavenly candy shop. Alber Elbaz has done it again - he delivered inventive pieces but didn't alienate Lanvin's signature bold colors and voluminous silhouettes. This Spring collection leaves you wanting more. It offers everything from black to nude, to colors like chartreuse, teal, purple, and orange. Yum. Some of the dramatic wide-shouldered silhouettes are hard to work with; still, on the runway they work like magic. But what I really want to talk about are the accessories. Sparkly necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and clutches demand attention, but somehow don't steal the spotlight from the clothes. A perfect harmony has been created with the stunning clothes and wild jewels. Bravo, Alber, bravo!

For Fall '09, Lanvin chose Kristen McMenamy to show off its delectable collection. Her stricken pose captures the pure essence of Lanvin's collection: dramatic sophistication. The stark lighting and monochromatic theme keep me focused on Lanvin's impeccably tailored slate gray dress and prominent jewels - doesn't her pouty lip remind you of McQueen's runway models? I'm usually not a cat person, but I like the fuzzballs here. They play into the Autumn theme and their facial expressions are priceless. Here, kitty, kitty . . .

"I like your sleeves, they're real big." Little did Napoleon Dynamite know, pouf pieces, like Deb's sleeves, would be in vogue a few years later. We've been experiencing shoulder love for a couple seasons now and we agree shoulder pads are debatable. But for Fall, designers flounced and fluffed fabrics on all sorts of terrain. Front and center on a frock, cascading down a train, at the hip(s), along a hemline, and yes, on shoulders. If the popular shoulder pouf piece is too Dynasty for you, take a cue from the poufiest of the season, Louis Vuitton, and place one, or two, at your hips - dare to go there. Source: Getty

Oscars Red Carpet: Tilda Swinton

Tilda Swinton blew onto the red carpet looking avant-garde, this time in a sand-toned, draped blouse paired with a sleek, black, sweeping skirt, both by Lanvin. Dark lips add a touch of color, and heavy bangles complete the look. Her ensemble isn't the most flattering but it does complement her offbeat personality. What do you think?
