I've been on the lookout for a laptop sleeve. I keep discovering new scratches on my Mac and it's time I took good care of it. My search ends today, thanks to this Rebecca Minkoff Virginia Computer Sleeve ($98), which also comes in black and bright orange. I used to think it was impossible to find a highly fashionable computer sleeve that's also functional, but this one is as non-geeky as they get. The patent leather is slick, the bright pink is super fun. Plus, the price isn't half bad either. To get more for my money, I think I'll carry it as an oversize clutch on the weekends.

Laptop Bag or Laptop Sleeve?

Depending on my mood, I'll carry a laptop bag one day and then use a laptop sleeve the next. Sometimes it depends on how much is already in my purse and whether the sleeve and laptop can fit in there. Some days I curse my sleeves for making my bag so heavy, and some days I don't want to carry a whole extra bag.

One thing a girl can't complain about: the variety. You can go custom, like with this sleeve, and laptop bags in general are starting to branch out in designs, like this bag from J. Crew. I can't decide which way I prefer to tote around my laptop, but can you?

And don't get me started on letting it go naked!

In case you missed it, all of New York's finest fashionistas descended upon last night's Fashion's Night Out. Although there was plenty of celebs to be seen, I wasn't counting on too much tech making appearances amidst all the handbags and stilettos. I was (sort of) wrong. Gwen Stefani showed off her latest fashion-forward L.A.M.B. pieces at her presentation - check out Pop's exclusive interview with her here - which included a trendy lemon and black laptop sleeve.

I should have known that Gwen would supply us with sweet-looking tech accessories, I mean, she does love her computer. Unfortunately, I don't have any details as to the price or when this sleeve will be available, but rest assured, you'll be the first to know when I do!

A Good Pair: Trexta Air Sleeves and the Latico Vertical Tote

If I'm in the market for a new bag, I tend to want to pair it with a new laptop sleeve. This is because realistically, it's only a matter of time before my bag (no matter if it's a laptop bag or not) becomes a transportation device for my trusty computer. So when I saw (and salivated over) the Vertical Tote ($155) on Flight 001, I immediately went on the hunt for a laptop sleeve that would match the adorable flower print on the inside lining. Lo and behold, the sexy Trexta sleeves I was raving about at Macworld were just what I was looking for.

Typewriter Laptop Sleeve: Love It or Leave It?

Since this isn't the first typewriter-printed laptop bag I've seen (that honor goes to this red one), I have to note the delicious irony that's having a moment.

The irony, of course, is that of depicting an old-school typewriter on a vessel that transports a new-school computer. Yes, it seems that you can have it both ways: retro and modern.

This Typewriter Print Laptop Sleeve ($35) from the MoMA Store is cashing in on this juxtaposition, and I can't complain; the cool blue and hot orange look stunning together.

But is it pushing a theme too far, or is the laptop/typewriter thing still a cool pairing?

Look, Rebecca Minkoff, do you have a crush on me or something? It's just that you keep designing laptop bags and sleeves that I routinely become obsessed with, and it's like you heard my cries for more chic laptop bags for those of us gals who are constantly toting our computers around. So I actually spotted this bag while I was shopping this weekend at a shoe store - I saw it on the shelf and, eyes wide as saucers, pulled it down, mouth agape like some creepy weirdo. The salesgirl understood. It's the Ibiza MAB Laptop Bag (part of the Morning After Bag collection.

Geek Tip: Use a Pillow Case as an Emergency Laptop Sleeve

Ever rushing out on a trip and realize you need a laptop sleeve like one of these chic styles? Or sometimes you're just trying to get out the door when you don't have a laptop bag or sleeve handy, and you need to slip your computer into another bag - and you don't want to let it bang up against the other contents of your bag.

For those times, hit up your linen closet for a pillow case. Slip your computer into the bottom, fold the excess fabric over, and bam, slip that into your bigger bag. It's not heavy duty protection, obviously, but it'll shield your laptop from superficial scratches and dents.

This is especially great if you're carrying on your laptop for a flight but don't want to carry it in a separate bag (especially now that so many airlines charge you to check any bags), or if your laptop sleeve's padding takes up a little more room than you'd like. Easy, clever, and not even as low rent as using a sock as a camera case.
