Do You Light a Fire at Thanksgiving?

After dinner, we always light a fire in the fireplace to unwind in postprandial, lazy states. It's always great to dim the lights and watch the fire as we talk, read books, or play board games.

Five Lazy Games to Play With Your Tots

Kids have an abundance of energy so when mom gets tuckered, she still has to keep her preschool and toddler charges entertained. Here are five lazy games that are perfect for playing when the children need to be occupied and a tired mama wants to sneak in a bit of rest and relaxation.

UK Ad Claims That Video Games Equal an Early Death

Do video games spur people to really "do nothing"? That's what this print ad from the UK's government agency Change 4 Life portrays - and not only do they make you do nothing, that apparently causes you to die early.

Sure, some notorious games can hold you hostage for hours, but on the whole, I'm pretty sure this ad is overly alarmist. A handful of people can take anything to the extreme, video games included (I can think of a few devastating stories where people were preoccupied with their game, and something awful happened), but for the majority, I think moderation is the rule.

This ad seems to want to deter parents from letting their kids play video games, but it's going a bit far in its message of health.

What do you think?

Serena Serves Her Pomegranate Lip Balmer

I'd imagine lunging for a drop shot would cause some wind-chapped lips over time. (I'm imagining this while sitting my lazy bum on the couch.) Anyway, athletes who face the elements while practicing and competing, need to protect their lips.

To help keep her game face ready, Serena Williams worked with Mission Skincare to create a silky balm that takes her through the whole set. The Serena Williams's Pomegranate Lip Balmer SPF 15 ($4) comes with a sweet flavor (not just scent) and goes on super smooth.

With an added base including coconut oil, beeswax, and cocoa butter for moisture, it's free of preservatives/ parabens making it the natural choice, even for me. Since the only thing I'm diving for is my cell phone, I'm glad this line features a special applicator (making it nearly impossible to turn unless the top's off) so I won't get sticky fingers in the process.

Lil Tip: Freeze Dance Tires Tots Out

If you're having a lazy day, don't rely on the boob tube to entertain your tots. Instead turn to an energy exhausting activity to calm hyper kids. The other day, my lil darlings danced their hearts out for an hour during an impromptu game of freeze dance. At five and two, they haven't perfected the freezing part, but were more than thrilled to attempt to stand still when the music stopped. When we pumped up the jams, they got inventive creating their own signature moves.

Group Therapy: My Boyfriend's Brother is a Complete Jerk

I've been with my boyfriend for three years and we live together. He's a great guy and I adore his parents, but I don't know how they managed to spawn such horrible offspring as his younger brother, who's in his early 20's. He's lazy, mean, misogynistic, he smokes pot all the time and talks to people (including his lovely mother) like dirt. He's never held a job, and has a serious online gaming addiction. He spends his life complaining about "the world", "the man" and "the system". He takes advantage of the nice people around him (his friends, his parents, his roommate, etc) and I know for a fact he steals from them (nothing huge, but little things here and there). He's got an incredible sense of entitlement and thinks he's God's gift to mankind.

The problem? My boyfriend, who is so amazing almost all of the time, is for some reason in awe of his brother and tends to follow in his wake after spending time together. He'll come home with his head full of lame ideas about "society", and "the man", and I think it's embarrassing for a 30 year old man to talk like a rebellious teenager. What can I do?

Where Do You Stand? Getting Back Into the Game

The dating game is a funny thing; some people love it and some people despise it. In my experience, the more I date the easier it becomes. However, if I've been single for a long time, getting back out there again seems like a major obstacle to overcome. Part of me thinks it's just laziness, but the other part thinks it's more about getting comfortable in a new routine. So where do you stand when it comes to dating again after a dry spell? Is it easier or harder to get back in the game after you've been sitting on the sidelines?

Are We There Yet? Long Campaign Devolves Into Party Favors?

It seems impossible to remember a time BC: Before Campaign. That may be because we've been at this game seriously since 2006. By the time the US votes, it will be a vote two years in the making (at that rate, isn't it time to start the 2012 campaign?) Perhaps because of this stretched out schedule, the capacity for substantive debate has been also stretched - to the snapping point.

Whether a function of the campaigns themselves running out of ways (gimmicks?) to keep themselves in the public eye for an interminable amount of time, the media's fatigue with covering yet another town hall in yet another town, or the public's appetite for newer, better, flashier, the campaign we're seeing now, well it's a little stinky.

Case in point: the Obama Energy Plan tire gauge. I admit, I saw it and winced. Because now that we've seen it all, every move, especially during these lazy days of summer, is heightened in import to a major event - and when McCain is actually out there and talking about his plan in a more conventional way.

Now, the gauge itself, kind of funny. Obama did say we should inflate our tires. The doohickey just takes a statement and gives it legs in a party favor format. And I don't doubt it was meant as a joke - McCain is famous for them, like when Obama was on his big trip abroad, and the McCain team handed out gag press credentials to the domestic-bound crew traveling with him that read "JV Squad: Left Behind to Report in America." I mean just using the word "JV" in an adult setting is inherently funny - but what does it say about the discourse? To find out, and see Paris Hilton's response to the celebrity ad with an energy plan of her own, read more.

Here's the rub: even though stunts like this and the celebrity-filled ad get picked up and talked about, I question whether they might do more harm than good. McCain has an energy plan, the Lexington Project, and it's not too shabby. Obama's got one too and there are substantive comparisons out there, in addition to the candidates' own websites that spell out their entire energy policies. I have faith that there is room for levity and gravitas in the campaign, but given the duration of constant scrutiny, one tire gauge can be spun as the sum total of a plan when that's far from the truth.

Do stories like the tire gauge and the celeb ad make the campaign lighter than air - or simply lighten the mood?

See Paris Hilton Responds to McCain Ad and more funny videos on FunnyOrDie.com
The Beckham Bunch

David Beckham had anything but a lazy Sunday this weekend. He took his two oldest boys, Brooklyn and Romeo to the LA Lakers vs the Denver Nuggets basketball game at the Staples Center, and kept them smiling and occupied when they weren't watching the game. Is he giving Romeo a noogie?! Later that evening David got some time with his wife, as they got all dressed up and headed to an Italian restaurant in Santa Monica. Judging by that dress, I'm guessing Victoria didn't have spaghetti...

View 14 Photos ›

GiggleSugar Best of the Week

Underage teenyboppers entertain themselves in front of a mirror - where did we go wrong? Cast your vote here.

Chances are, you've dated one of this dude's multiple boyfriend personalities.

Spoons: They're more exciting than you think!

Someone needs to slap a restraining order on this kitty.

Paula Abdul had a rough week - juggling her multiple levels of disorientation and all.

Baby orangutan forgets to laugh at Johnny Carson's antics.

This chatty cat won't tolerate being called "lazy" or "fat." Perhaps sitting in the sink all day will make it better.

Drunk driving PSA targets sci-fi enthusiasts who sit at home all night and play video games - while completely sober.
