Oct 27 2009 - 7:57am And then there were three. Back in May I asked you all who you would choose to play Frank Sinatra in the upcoming biopic, and Martin Scorsese reportedly has narrowed it down to Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, and George Clooney. Apparently Scorsese's first choice is his muse DiCaprio, while Universal Pictures would like to see Depp in the role.
I think George Clooney does a better job of representing the kind of old school charm and rogue-ish quality that Sinatra had, but I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the three.
I wish he would use an unknown actor. All of these stars are so well known it is had for me to see then as Frank.
But if it has to be one of them I think Johnny D. is the best. I can transform him self into anyone.
NOT George Clooney, he comes off as really full of himself and I don't see him letting go of his George-ness (if that makes sense) to become Frank, his characters just aren't believable to
me. Leo or Johnny would be good though.
I picked Johnny only because he transforms into other characters more convincingly than the other two... I never forget when I'm watching George or Leo playing a character, but Johnny IS the
character.
I think Robin Thicke would be great for the look and the singing, can he act?
If it has to be a proper actor, I'd pick Ewan MacGregor or maybe Neil Patrick Harris.
i voted JD although i have a feeling that the winner will be Leo. he's kind of got that aura about himself that would be well suited for sinatra - and we all know how much scorsese loves him.
I definitely see Hayden in that role! But as for real actors I had to pick Leo because of the eyes. The role isn't quirky enough for Depp, George... Im just not seeing it. Leo I think has the
chops to play this role
I chose Johnny because you know he will embody Sinatra. Clooney would play Frank like Clooney playing Frank I think Frank deserves somebody to dive full into the roll and do it well. Leo's
not a bad choice but I kinda don't know if he would do it as much justice as Depp.
I mean, I might get killed for this- but I kinda think Harry Connick, Jr would be a good choice... he can sing and everything and they do look similar if you put their pics up against each
other..
I'm with Brian. Out of the options I would love to pick JD because he really is able to disappear into his characters, but I have to pick Leo because Frank is known as Ol' Blue Eyes and I
really hate the way contacts look on the big screen.
Who cares about Frank (though my vote goes to Johnny, he's the only one youthful and mature looking to cover a life time of Frank--Leo is incapable of portraying real manliness; George is
horrifically overrated)?
Who are they going to get to play the ladies in his life??
No Brits to play American Bombshells this time around...if they talk about his relationship with Marilyn, it can only be Christina Aguilera, and when they bring up Ava Gardner do NOT bring
back freakin' Kate Beckinsale.
It would be so funny if this turned out to be a spin off of The Aviator.
People shouldn't get so wrapped up in who looks just like him. Nicole Kidman looked NOTHING like Virginia Wolfe (but look at what they did with make up!), nor did Reece Witherspoon look like
June Carter. Both won Oscars because of their acting ability. All three of these gentleman have proven they have the chops to pull off a variety of roles, and all have been recognized by the
academy. I can see a justification being made for any one of them, but my vote goes to Leo. I just hope they will pick an equally talented leading lady to do the film justice, instead of
someone who is pretty and way too thin and not all that talented.
i don't know why people think leo can't be manly anymore - just cause he was a pretty waif when he was young, he can't grow up? no way, the departed showed that plainly. i think leo would be
awesome. and he is the only one with blue eyes hehehe
None of them! All these guys are in the running so the movie has "star power" not because they would play him well. George Clooney is the only one that would have the swagger necessary.
Johnny Depp and Leo both come off as little boys. Frank Sinatra was a man's man and you need a man's man to play him.
LEONARDO, no doubt! Because he seems like Frank more like the others (eyes, smile, nose...), and because I love how he acts in every single part of every movie he is in.
NONE of them! Harry Connick, Jr. should portray him. Harry is the closest resemblance physically and he has the music background to best get into the role.
Personally I love the work of all three of these gentlemen (Depp and DiCaprio being my favorites)but why not use someone more low key (not a big box office star) who more closely resembles
him, can sing and would do justice to the part and to his music. Are you afraid that the movie won't "sell" unless you have a BIG box office star!!?? I feel sure that there is someone out
there who would relish the chance to do this part and probably wouldn't demand an exorbitant "salary".
i dont know about actor playing frank but i know a man that can do the voice for him it is tony sands look him up on tony sands.com and liston to him and tell me what you think thanks mike w

1Martin loves Leo and I think Leo fits it the best- he might need to loose some lbs though.
2I wish he would use an unknown actor. All of these stars are so well known it is had for me to see then as Frank.

yeah i choose Johnny Depp
4neither of them. They dont even LOOK like him AT ALL!!!!!
5and none of them have his charm
I picked Leonardo before I even saw that it was Martin's first choice. I think he would be the best in the role for sure.

10now who looks like him? Hayden Christianson? a bit....who else?
11Wow, that's a tough one. I have no idea.
Caterpillar Girl: Yeah, he looks like Hayden Christensen (sp?) in that pic. Good one.
12I definitely see Hayden in that role! But as for real actors I had to pick Leo because of the eyes. The role isn't quirky enough for Depp, George... Im just not seeing it. Leo I think has the chops to play this role

Stepping out of those three actors...I'd say they should get Matt Damon!
19none of them.
20I'm a huge Frank Sinatra fan but can honestly say I wouldn't sit through Leonardo in that role . . .
21
i don't know if harry can act, but if he can, he'll be perfect - he doesn't even need a voiceover for the songs.
22
- that's supposed to be harry connik jr.

29The only acceptable actor who could pull this off would be Harry Conick, he could look like him with make up and he certainly can mimic his voice.
30I think Harry Connick should take the role. He looks and can sound almost like old blue eyes.
