Stylesight Weigh in with Oscar Beauty Predictions

Oscar time is nearly here and I am beyond excited! I can't wait to see the flashbulbs on Sunday, and all those gorgeous dresses and hairstyles. I've been following the award season beauty trends for a while and I have a few ideas of what to expect, but I thought it was worth catching up with an expert.

Andrea Praet is the trend director at top New York trends prediction agency Stylesight and I managed to grab her just in time. To check out her top Oscar beauty predictions, just read more.

What are your beauty predictions for Sunday evening? For hair, expect to see pretty, feminine loose styles continuing. This coif is more relaxed and less fussy, allowing the actresses' confidence and natural beauty to shine through. Modern braiding and twisting in asymmetric styles are also likely to make an appearance as they are the style du jour.
The smokey eye is ideal for sultry drama that's sure to make an impact on the Red Carpet. Expect to see subdued metallics, in shades of pewter and lavender, with accents of shimmering white that highlight the brow and cheek bone. And plenty of mascara. Thick, gorgeous lashes are always a must. Lips are another key area of the face that's receiving well deserved attention as of late. Creamy rich shades of red-orange and fuschia are sure to enhance the evening's glamour!

Nails are going dusty and light. Chalky shades of grey and beige are the new neutral, and pastel shades of lavender and pistachio are the girly alternative..

Which actresses do you think will be more daring with their look? Actress, Carey Mulligan of An Education, seems to be taking bold risks. She recently turned her pixie cut from auburn to blonde. Perhaps she'll turn up the volume on her make-up as well. She's been known to do a dramatic liquid liner cat eye, now all she needs is a statement-making lip to match!

No matter the lipstick she's wearing or the perfectly waved hairstyle she's sporting, Eliza Dushku's red carpet looks are always stunning. At the We Live in Public premiere in LA, her rosy-hued makeup palette was gorgeous. A thick application of liquid black liner gives the look a sexy feel while providing contrast to her pink champagne-toned shadow, and a touch of bronzer creates a flattering contrast. Backstage Pass To LFW Autumn 2010: William Tempest

Emerging designer William Tempest's show was something that I'd been looking forward to all week long. Last season was incredible, and this year was even better (but, I'll leave it to FabSugarUK to fill you in on his amazing clothing later). However, the beauty style is what I wanted to tell you about since the eye shadow creations are swoon worthy too! The makeup look was created by Lan Nguyen for AOFM using Benefit Cosmetics which she described as,

"Sheer luxury. Think Dubai meets Cleopatra with a geometrical shaped eye and bold lines mixed with metallic lime greens and golds."

I really loved the way the harsh black liner and shadow was softened by the funky, yet totally wearable chartreuse and gold eye shadows and pale cheek and lip. The blending alone was superb, and sparked all kinds of ideas in my head for how you can pair basic metallics like gold, silver, copper and pewter shades with deeper tones to create a sexy effect.

FACE: Hello Flawless, a powder foundation was used all over the face and buffed out with another light layer added on top for a sheer and natural effect.
CHEEKS: Other than adding a peachy-gold liquid highlighter called Moon Beam for dimension and contour, no other colour was added to the face.
EYES: I can't stress enough how cool the eye makeup looked. Black shadow was applied into a "v-shape" on the outer corners of the eyes and black liner was added for even more definition. Then, two new colours (which aren't out just yet but are part of the Spring/Summer collection) in green (Mermaid) and gold (Shamrocker) were blended together to soften the eye.
LIPS: The lip look was sheer and super simple. All that was applied was a pale, bubblegum pink gloss called Life on the A List.
NAILS: I loved this great pinky-red shade from Jessica Nails in Sexy Siren!

Paint It Black - Fab's 30-Day Fashion Challenge! Liquid Legs

For our final Paint It Black ensemble, I decided to put on my liquid legs, aka liquid leggings. They're surprisingly comfortable; I can spend days in them. Since they're trendy, I kept the rest of me tame by wearing a V-neck tee and a long knit vest. A slim brown belt, layered gold necklaces, and gold bangles serve as subtle highlights. It's been noir-tastic ladies - over and out.

So here is my Drugstore Challenge look. I just picked up Revlon's PhotoReady in Natural Beige after avoiding it for so long. I finally caved when it was BOGOF at Rite Aid. Get Glowing With a Liquid Highlighter

Not just for textbooks anymore, highlighters provide a very fun and flattering way to add a subtle glow to any makeup look. What's more, they can enhance or conceal flaws or features. Here are a few ways to wear them.

For an All-over Glow: A shimmer highlighter like Benefit's Moon Beam ($24) is a great multipurpose product. It has pink and gold undertones, so it works well with any skin type, and the formula is thin and light, so it can be blended easily. This kind of highlighting fluid can be used anywhere. Dab a bit of this on your brow bones, lips, and décolletage to create an overall luminescence.

Conceal: A great way to conceal a patch of redness, uneven skin tone, or dark circles is to reflect light off of the area with a highlighting concealer. Laura Mercier's Secret Brightener ($30) adds a faint tint and a light sheen where applied, replacing flaws with a fresh-faced glow.

Enhance: If you want to play up or reduce the appearance of a certain feature on your face, a highlighting fluid such as Physicians Formula Pearls of Perfection Multi-Colored Face Tint ($12) is just the ticket. Try dabbing a bit on the inner corners of your eyes to instantly brighten and widen the eye area, or use it on the bridge of your nose to make it look slimmer.

Backstage Pass To LFW Spring 2010: Mattijis

On Friday afternoon, the buzz backstage at the Mattijis van Bergen show all about a creating a fun loving, sexy and Summery feel. Hair was pulled back and teased in the front to create a kind of frizzy, wind-blown effect, whilst makeup was controlled yet luminous using toned down metallics. My pal, the friendly makeup artist Rachel Wood said,

"Because the designer is using copper and bronze jewellery, I wanted to complement the look and accent the eyes with that same colour scheme. The goal for this face was to create something ethereal, summery and light."

As Benefit Cosmetics was the official makeup sponsor of the show, all of the products used were theirs, and Jessica Nails used a light coloured nudey-pink shade on each of the models. FACE: Begin by blending Boi-ing (concealer), Erase Paste (brightening concealer) and a a little bit of Moon Beam (liquid highlighter) on the cheekbones, lips and brow bone to create a smooth canvas with a touch of luminescence.
EYES: Then, to create that perfect metallic colour on the eyes, Rachel mixed some One Hot Minute and Big Daddy Lust Dusters and blended it all over the lids of the eyes on top of Birthday Suit (an oyster cream shadow she used as a base). Next, she lined the eyes with Gilded Tequilla (a gold highlighter pencil that she used as eye liner), she added some High Brow white liner on the inside of the eyes and finished the look with a couple coats of Bad Gal Mascara.
CHEEKS: As a contour, Rachel lightly dusted Coralista Blush on the model's cheeks and left them bronzer-free.
LIPS: First, lips were prepped with Benetint Lip Balm and them she added a little bit of Moon Beam over the balm for an iridescent effect.
