Love It or Hate It? Lola Chandelier

This slightly risque Lola Chandelier echoes the design of a lingerie corset, with Swarovski crystal detailing and a lace-up front. I think the pendant lamp, which is available in black or stainless steel, could work in the right room, but I don't adore it. What do you think?

Jennifer and Marc Celebrate Monday Night Football

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony were in Miami last night to cheer on the Dolphins as they beat the New York Jets. Marc opened the game by singing the National Anthem, but Jennifer's currently the one releasing new music. Her single "Fresh Out of the Oven" came out last week under her alter ego, Lola, though you guys aren't exactly loving it. Jennifer might be trying on a new persona for her new song, but J Lo will always be her number one alias.

Look of the Day: Nuevo Silhouette

I'm always seeing straight and slim cuts, but myrinda is rocking a nuevo silhouette. Brave girl! I love the bagginess of her trousers and how it's balanced out by a super girlie ruffle blouse. Stacked gold necklaces and a skinny tan belt keep the look from being too serious.

Marc Jacobs Loves Lola. (Lo-lo-lo-lo Lola)

In my mind, there are two Marc Jacobses: the slightly nerdy guy who appeared in Sonic Youth videos, and the slick, slim cool-guy megadesigner he is now. And maybe it's just me, but I kinda miss the dorky Marc who loved the more obviously offbeat. Fortunately, there's a bit of both Marcs in his latest fragrance, Lola ($65-85).

Like Daisy before it, Lola is a scent for the young - which makes sense for a fragrance whose name has Nabokovian connotations. Like so many recent launches, it's another fruity floral fragrance, filled with notes of pear, grapefruit, pink peppercorn, peony, rose, and geranium. After the initial burst of brightness, it settles into a warmer, more nuanced vanilla-musk scent that makes Lola feel a little more grown-up than its first moments suggest. It's pleasant and soft, and it's bound to be a hit among the young. But if you're old enough to remember the Reagan administration, this candy-sweet scent might not be the right fit for you.

Do Tell: Do Your Pups Behave Like Their Ancestors?

Although I've got pets on the brain almost nonstop, sometimes new ideas strike me when chatting with pals. Take yesterday, when my friend (who moved to southwest London with her rescued Cocker Spaniel) complained to me that Lola loves the Thames but constantly tries to edge closer to get the birdies. Not only is she worried her dog will jump in, but it's hard to walk because it seems like Lola forgot all her training and now has a mind of her own.
I've seen a sheepdog try to "herd" passersby on the sidewalk in Pacific Heights and other working dogs like these retrievers that seem to instinctively want to perform the jobs they were bred to do . . . like fetching for hours on end!

What's even more interesting is how another friend's shepherd/retriever mix exhibits behaviors from both the herding and the working groups . . . do your furry friends act like this as well? Share in the comments below.

I like any chance to add a theme to my outfit, for example on St Patrick's day I like to wear green, and on Valentine's Day I like my ensemble to show some love.

What Does Chris Rock Know About "Good Hair?"

A mention of Chris Rock's name doesn't exactly conjure up thoughts of heartfelt documentaries, but that may change soon. Premiering at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival this week is a project close to his heart. Inspired by his daughter Lola, Good Hair exposes his discoveries while trying to answer the question: "Daddy, how come I don’t have good hair?” If you've never heard it yourself, labels of "good hair" and "bad hair" are often provided by strangers, stylists, and even loved ones in the Black community based on the texture, thickness, and the styling ease of one's hair. Even though it's not always said in a derogatory way, Chris Rock gathers stories and observations to find out exactly what this is, why it is, and what it means for the esteem of the people who receive these unwanted titles.

Are Classic Fairy Tales a Thing of the Past?

Are the fairy tales we grew up with (not to mention our parents and grandparents) too scary and politically incorrect for our children? According to a nationwide survey in Great Britain, The Baby Website found that one in four moms forgo classics such as Sleeping Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood over The Very Hungry Caterpillar or The Gruffalo.

Traditional fairy tales were first popularized in the early 1800s with the publishing of The Brothers Grimm's Fairy Tales in 1812 and Hans Christian Andersen's Complete Fairy Tales and Stories in 1835. The stories have been told to generations of children through various waves of social reforms, but today's parents deem the classics to be too scary (Hansel and Gretel are abandoned in a forest) or not PC (the dwarfs in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs). The survey revealed that parents feared that this text would give their tots nightmares, with 65 percent saying they purposely choose happy stories for bedtime reading.

I Believe This Is What You Call "Givin' It All You Got"

Nevermind that "all you got" is pretty awful. It's the effort that counts, right? I have no idea why Lola Perazzo, performing the "Thriller" dance on the awesome '80s talent show "Stairway to Stardom," didn't make it big. It wasn't for lack of trying! (And a note to all you American Apparel addicts out there - this is where AA's love of Spandex came from. Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.)
