We all know that love can be blinding, but new love can be overwhelming to the point of all consuming. And sometimes, when reveling in a new relationship, old priorities can suffer the consequences. For some it's their job, families, or friends, and for others it's a combination of all three. While it's natural to want to be with that special someone every chance you get, doing so can easily offend or hurt your loved ones - especially when they feel like they've been put on back burner. I know I've been guilty of this before so tell me, have any of your relationships ever suffered when you first fell in love?

There are so many amazing things that come with the beginning of a new relationship that I’d be hard pressed to pick just one as my favorite - though who can deny just how great that butterflies feeling is? One particular moment I think is the most special for a couple is the exchange of "I love you." Whether it’s sappy, funny, or completely random, this step always lingers and represents a deepening connection in a relationship. Have You Ever Had a Love/Hate Relationship?

If you've ever had a love/hate relationship with someone, you know how frustrating and confusing it can feel, but according to new research, there's a reason why these kinds of relationships are so common. In a recent study, participants were shown images of individuals they hated and the brain activity pattern it revealed partially occurs in areas of the brain activated by romantic love as well. Written in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS One, researchers said, "This linkage may account for why love and hate are so closely linked to each other in life. Our results show that there is a unique pattern of activity in the brain in the context of hate." The study also revealed one conclusion to this research:

While both emotions are all-consuming passions, it may be that people in love are often less critical and judgmental about their partner but need to maintain their focus when dealing with a hated rival.

Do Tell: How Has Your Relationship With Your Dad Affected Your Love Life?

Whether you have an amazing relationship with your father or a lousy/nonexistent one, Father's Day is a time to reflect on how this important figure in your life shaped your relationship to other men. (It can even impact desire/identification for gay women.)

Psychologists have argued that if you had a loving and healthy relationship with your father, you will most likely seek out men with his qualities. For women with unbalanced or dysfunctional relationships - either an overdoting, overprotective father or an absent one - they can become, in the former case, "princesses" who expect men who bend over backward for them, or, in the latter case, women with "daddy issues," who look for the same unavailable or unsatisfactory men who remind them of their disappointing fathers.

Are Video Proposals Online Cowardly or Cute?

Last night Tumblr users signed on to see "Marissa Nystrom, will you marry me?" bannered across their dashboards, whether or not they followed proposer Justin Johnson's blog. The link goes to this genuinely thoughtful, romantic, and well-edited video, but I presume his girlfriend follows his blog. So the only reason I can see to link the video to the world is to consummate its place in the controversial genre of public marriage proposals.

Public proposals seem unabashedly confident at first, but only the most heartless, unafraid-to-make-a-scene askee would say no. Put it on video and not only is he not asking her in person, but he's putting pressure on her to say yes in front of the largest stage of all. And when it's online, you can't leave your audience behind.

Awkward! Not Sure About Inviting Boyfriend to Thanksgiving

Since the Holiday season can be rich with awkward moments, a friend of mine is trying to sort out a relationship dilemma before Thanksgiving arrives. Read her story, and see if you can offer her any advice.

"My boyfriend and I have been dating for about six months. Thanksgiving is coming up and I will be going to my parent's house, which is about two hours away from where I live now, for the weekend. Each year my extended family and I celebrate Thanksgiving at my aunt's house, which is right near my parent's. Since my boyfriend's family lives really far away, I would love to invite him to come. My only concern is that it might be overwhelming for him. He's met my parents when they came to visit, but this would involve staying at their house, not to mention meeting all my cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Then again, it seems like a natural step in our relationship. Should I ask him to come along, or is it putting too much pressure on him?"

When Patrick Dempsey launched his first scent, Unscripted, late last year, I have to admit I was skeptical of another celebrity fragrance hitting the market. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle, clean scent, and even Mr. Bella - whose idea of a fun night out involves climbing mountains and camping in the woods sans showers - is a fan.

Patrick has been bitten by the fragrance bug once again. The launch of his latest scent, Patrick Dempsey 2 ($30), pays tribute to the intimacy between two people. (That's his wife in the ad campaign.) Taylor Lautner's Wet T-Shirt Rolling Stone Cover Debuts

Taylor Lautner has had a busy few months promoting New Moon, and his hard work paid off with their record-breaking opening weekend. His costars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are still doing their thing side-by-side, but Taylor is solo in his latest appearance - he's been on many magazine covers and the latest is December's Rolling Stone. We saw Taylor getting wet and wild on the beach during this photo shoot back in October, and today we get a sneak peek at the the hot shots and video from the magazine. He also opened up about Jacob and Bella's relationship, discussing their love triangle with Edward. Here's more:

On why Bella can't decide who to love: "You know, she's serious with Edward and then she meets best friend Jacob. She gets confused."
On why Jacob can't get behind Bella and Edward's relationship: "If I was Jacob, and I feel like I have lived as him, it gets so annoying. Because she's in the car with you one moment, about ready to kiss you and then leaves with Edward. And then she's back with you, you know?"
On his relationship with Bella after she says 'I love you': "Eclipse was actually my favorite of the series. It's the height of the love triangle. I think it's going to be good."

Relationship Protocol: Love Notes

While staying with a girlfriend and her husband the other weekend, I kept finding Post-It notes with sweet messages all over their house. Since he travels quite a bit for work, he constantly leaves her surprises in her medicine cabinet, in her underwear drawer, stuck to the remote, or even on the coffee maker so that she knows how much he loves her even when he's not physically there. I can't stop thinking about how his little gestures make such a big impact - I mean wouldn't seeing little I love yous bring a smile to your face? Perhaps you already do something similar? So tell me, how do you tell each other you're thinking of them when away?
