British Fashion Awards 2008: The Winners

This evening the British Fashion Awards took place at Lawrence Hall, in Westminster hosted by journalist Mariella Frostup. The awards supported by the British Fashion Council and sponsored by Swarovski celebrated the biggest names in British fashion from designers to models.

The nominees were revealed back in August but you guys predicted correctly that Luella Bartley was the big winner. The winner attended in an outfit from her Spring 2009 line and was no surprise. Her recent collections have been adored by celebrities and fashion press alike and she truly deserved this accolade.

Other winners included global shoe empire Jimmy Choo who under the careful guidance of Tamara Mellon won Designer Brand of the year. Jourdan Dunn also must be celebrating tonight as she beat Agyness Deyn and Lily Donaldson to model of the year.

Trend Alert: Bows

Pretty bows are adorning everything this season from dresses and handbags, to shoes and alice bands, as fashion returns to ladylike elegance. Big dramatic bows appeared on party dresses at Sonia Rykiel and D&G with metallic detailing finishing at the knee for a classy look. Brighter colours were used at Luella where neon pastels brought a modern feel to old lady chic. Bows also played a major part with accessories - on shoes at Chanel and clutch bags at Lanvin.

Oxymoron is a Luella girl minus the Luella price tag. She loved the designer's floral tiered mini skirts, but since she didn't want to pay the high price, she found a look for less! Smart girl for wearing a simple black tee and allowing the cutesy skirt to shine.

Alexa Chung attended last night's Glamour Awards having been nominated for Best Presenter (sadly she lost out to Fearne Cotton). She looked stylish wearing a strapless dress from Luella A/W (she also wore Luella to the Elle Style Awards in February). She teamed it with cute patent shoe-boots and a little black bag. Milk still does a body good, if you ask me. The online store of this one-year-old West Hollywood boutique, is fun and colorful, with a funky collage on its welcoming home page. This shop leans towards retro-inspired clothes from such lines as Christopher Deane, Diane von Furstenberg, Luella and Sue Stemp. They also carry beauty, lingerie, swimwear, mens - AKA milkman, books, kids tees and gift items. As well, their 'coming soon' and 'must-haves' sections help you to create a mental wish list. One thing the site is missing is a list by designer - phooey! Also, they score more points with cute tops and dresses, while bottoms and shoes are eh. But right now, they have an immense sale section. Here is my mental wish list:

Hot Color: Deep Purple

Jewel-tones are very big for Fall and Winter 2006, and you really can't go wrong with deep purple. This deep amethyst shade was all over the runways, and now it's making its way into stores in the form of dresses, tops, handbags, and shoes.
