Fab Flash: A Luella Update

Yesterday, I shared the sad news that Luella had lost it's license and financial backer. The British fashion house is loved by celebrities and mere mortals alike with Bartley scooping Designer of the Year in 2008. Luella is now seeking a new financial backer and looking to the future.

There has been great sadness throughout the online fashion world with a Save Luella campaign launched on Twitter. Fans of the brand are already rushing to buy up pieces from the Autumn collection (with some pieces reduced here), before the Spring line even hits stores.

Luella and her design team are currently creative consultants at Liberty of London where they have designed some very festive window displays.

Breaking News: Luella is No More

I unfortunately have to break some very sad news to you as one of London's best loved fashion labels, Luella, is no more. The announcement came today as WWD revealed that the long term investor Club 21 have walked away from the design house.

According to a statement, VSQ Limited who operated the Luella business have reluctantly “taken the decision not to invest further in its relationship with Luella Bartley Limited.” Bartley commented,

"This is a very disappointing situation for everyone involved with the brand…I very much appreciate the support that VSQ has given me, but it is upsetting not to be able to protect jobs in this difficult economic climate. We have a number of options open to us, and are considering these over the coming months.”

Just last year, Bartley scooped designer of the year at the British Fashion Awards and her designs have a strong celebrity following. You also voted Luella your number one designer of 2008. Let's hope that somebody can save the brand.

The Hollywood Awards Gala, the first event of award season, summoned a star-studded cast in LA last night. Charlize Theron, Zooey Deschanel, Diane Kruger, Julianne Moore, and Kate Beckinsale all livened up the red carpet with their chic ensembles. Charlize and Kate opted for slimming black, Diane looked angelic in white, and Zooey and Julianne coated themselves in color. Take a good look and decide who's most Fab.

London Fashion Week, Spring 2010: Luella

Luella is definitely a personal highlight of London Fashion Week. Last season was a slight disappointment, but it looks like all is back on track for Spring. The collection included tea dresses with cute Minnie Mouse style polka dots, cut out heart detailing and voluminous skirts. Similarly to Marc by Marc Jacobs, the models were styled with bows in their hair. Colour palette was kept relatively simple with monochrome shades and bright pillarbox red. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this line.

Upcoming style icon Little Boots (Victoria Hesketh) was excited earlier this week to attend an Esquire dinner along with Henry Holland and Gareth Pugh. She looked gorgeous in a Luella frock and killer grey platforms so I couldn't resist sharing her look with you. Trend Alert: Floral Corset

I am currently stuck in a bit of a wardrobe rut. I have many big, billowing tops which I had been teaming with skinny jeans, however, the new season has brought a new trouser shape which is causing problems! This Spring trousers are baggy around the hips (think harem pants or carrot leg trousers) so teaming with an oversized blouse is very unflattering.

The solution comes in the shape of figure hugging tops like these floral corsets. Mischa Barton has already sported the style, which is a softer take on the traditional corset. They're brightly coloured and cut to flatter your curves. You could wear it with cut-off shorts and chunky sandals for a cool festival look.
