Madonna's Sweet Album, Not So Sweet Apartment Issue

For all you Madonna fans, the latest news on her upcoming album is that we can expect an April 2008 release date! Obviously, we're thrilled to see what Madonna will do next - especially when she's collaborating with Kanye! The album is supposedly going to be called Licorice, so as you can imagine, we can't wait to eat this new treat up. In other Madonna news, seems like NYC is giving her a hard time expanding her empire. The family spends most their time in London, but they want to enlarge their NYC digs and unfortunately her plans to expand into her ex-neighbor's apartment were thwarted by the co-op board in her building. Of course, M isn't going down without a fight, and filed a suit in Manhattan Supreme Court against the board for breach of contract. Sounds like a bit of a sticky situation, but something tells us that Madonna is going to end up getting what she wants.

Madonna's New Album Comes to Cell Phones Before Stores

Before hitting stores on April 28, lucky Vodafone customers will be able to get seven of the eleven tracks off of Madonna's latest album Hard Candy!

According to the Times Online, songs will go on sale one week before the album release date and can be downloaded for 24 hours before being replaced by the next track.

Each song will cost 99p, with the hot new single, "4 Minutes" being available immediately for 75p! Now for the bad news, Vodafone spans across ten European countries. . . Which means U.S. fans are gonna have to be super patient, or wait for leaked versions to hit the net.

Madonna Implies J. Lo Copies Her - Plausible or Pretentious?

Madonna paid a visit to David Letterman earlier this week, and yesterday she called in to chat with Ryan Seacrest on his radio show. While she's not one to shy away from controversy, it seems like Madonna was actively trying to create drama when she implied that Jennifer Lopez tries to copy her. Of J. Lo's visit to one of her shows, Madonna said, "I was getting super-sharp looks from [Lopez] . . . . Whenever artists come to see my show, they're studying me." A diva fight could be just what Madonna needs to promote her upcoming album Celebration, but tell us what you think of Madonna's implication that J. Lo copies her - is it plausible or pretentious?

What to Download: New Music Today

Tuesdays are big in entertainmentville: not only do all the new DVD releases hit Netflix, but new music also pours into stores. So I take a spin through each week's music releases and pick out some albums and tracks worthy of a download.

Queen of the dance floor: I pretty much murdered my cassette of Madonna's greatest hits, The Immaculate Collection, which came out in 1990. Now, with Celebration, her third hits compilation, Madonna brings the party again. The title track is an upbeat dancer, but what you really want are her older songs that are mixed in with more recent hits, including "Hung Up," "Music," "Vogue," "Into the Groove," "Don’t Tell Me," and "Like a Virgin."

Divas are doing it for themselves: Even if your tastes aren't Mariah-level mainstream, you probably won't be able to escape most of the singles off of Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel for the next few months. Mariah wrote and executive produced the entire album, which includes her stalker jam "Obsessed" which has already been getting lots of airplay. If you tend to like her pipes more on ballads, look out for "H.A.T.E.U." and "I Want to Know What Love Is."

Alt rock out: Paramore sprung on the scene last year with prime placement on the Twilight soundtrack. Since then, they've been nominated for a VMA, and today they release their third album, Brand New Eyes. The first single, "Ignorance," is a hard rocker, while the slower, bittersweet "All I Wanted" will please devoted fans and new listeners. I also predict "Brick by Boring Brick" will go places.

Madonna's greatest hits album is coming soon, and here's the video for her first single, "Celebration." Most of you were loving the song when it came out, and after getting a taste of the video last week here's the entire thing, which is available for free download on iTunes until Sept. 3. Both Jesus Luz and Madonna's daughter Lourdes make cameos in "Celebration," as a DJ and dancer respectively.
