Celebs Like to Shake It

At first, the Power Plate seems like another gimmicky weight-loss product, but its website features endorsements from fit celebs like Madonna, Courteney Cox, and Hilary Swank. On top of that, it's used by over 60 college and pro sports teams, and the Police brought one with them on their reunion tour. That's some serious ~~celeb~~ street cred.

The secret behind the Power Plate is its vibrating plates. The manufacturer claims that if you stand on it for 10 minutes a day, three times a week, you'll lose weight, tone your body, and improve bone density. To really maximize the benefits of the machine, it's encouraged that you do the same exercises you would do on the floor - sit-ups, for example - on the Power Plate.

Cougar Town actress Cox says the Power Plate was essential in shaping her up for her new role: "The Power Plate machine has dramatically changed my workout. I know that every muscle in my body is being ignited in ways that you can't do with traditional training."

They call the technology behind the machine Acceleration Training: the vibrations transmit energy waves to the body that are able to contract muscles 25 to 50 times per second. This is suppose to help stimulate blood flow, work the muscles harder than ever before, and increase strength and flexibility.

Vibration training is not a new thing in the fitness world (remember the black rubber belts that used to go around the waist to shake off fat?), but it's been picking up steam especially as it garners more backing from the medical community and health professionals.

Studies done on the effects of vibration training show that if used properly, it's more beneficial at building lean muscle mass, improving weight loss, and increasing strength and speed than exercise regimens without vibration training. Researchers warn that the machines should not be used for more than 30 minutes a day due to health concerns about engaging the body in high-amplitude vibrations like back pain or blurred vision.

I remain a little skeptical, mostly because I can't get the Shake Weights infomercial out of my head, but my curiosity is piqued. My gym doesn't have a Power Plate yet, does yours? I'd love to hear what you think of this new workout.

Since Gwyneth started flashing her pins in super-short dresses paired with fashion-forward, chunky shoes, we've all been wondering how she got her legs looking that good. Now it seems her beauty secrets may be spilled as there are rumours she is planning on releasing a fitness video where she talks candidly about how she stays looking perfect, according to Splash News.

A source said: "Her idea is to show, step by step, what she does every day to stay in shape. There won't be much fancy equipment involved either, because her workout is mostly yoga, some basic Pilates and flexibility, and resistance training."

Like good friend Madonna, Gwyneth has previously talked about how she undergoes a tough, workout session with a personal trainer daily. As one of the ambassadors for Estee Lauder, I'm sure she gets to use a few of their gorgeous leg creams and body lotions too, to keep her skin looking glowing.

Apparently Gwyneth is planning to shoot the video at her estate by the coast, in New York's Amagansett, where she reputedly just had a pilates studio built. So, will she be the next Jane Fonda? Who's to say, but I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to know all her health and beauty secrets. Who wouldn't want those legs, after all?

The recently revealed (and depressing) secret code of sports mistresses reminded me that there are some women who will do anything to spend some time with a man who happens to be really, really good at sports. The rules for women who get involved with professional athletes include: never, ever, fall in love, always get gifts paid for upfront, and don't expect them to be faithful.

Of course there are some women who have the hots for athletes, without diving into the sordid world of groupie-dom. A friend in college dated multiple guys on the soccer team and a former roommate had a huge crush on baseball great Alex Rodriguez. (Apparently, she's not alone; Madonna and Kate Hudson, anyone?). Do athletes turn you on?

Guy Ritchie looked surprisingly upbeat arriving at JFK yesterday and heading back from the gym this morning with his trainer, perhaps because things aren't as bad as they've been made out to be. Madonna's rep responded to the heightening divorce rumors saying, "Madonna's husband Guy arrived in New York last night to be with his wife and family (not in a last ditch attempt to save his marriage which does not need saving)...There are no plans for Madonna and Guy to divorce." She went on to also shoot down the rumors of Madonna's alleged secret meetings and possible affair with NY Yankee Alex Rodriguez. People are also jumping all over his lack of a wedding ring, but he certainly did not always wear one - scroll through here for evidence. This isn't the first time Madonna and Guy have gone through this, but we're happy to hear, again, that these two aren't splitting up.

Pop Reports: Madonna at Wembley Stadium

The Queen of pop has outdone herself again with another enchanting concert performance. Last night, the 50 year-old danced, sang and cheered at London's Wembley Stadium, her eighth stop on the European leg of her Sticky and Sweet tour. The concert lasted for two hours and was broken down into four sections with intricate video interludes filling the time for stage and costume changes.

Having seen Madonna for the fourth time, I can attest to her energy level being higher than ever before. Highlights of the show were rock renditions of "Borderline" and "Hung Up" (both incredible), "4 Minutes" and the finale, "Give It 2 Me". I loved how she used the tick-tock riff from "4 Minutes" intermittently, just to tease the crowd.

Also, in the tracks where Madonna's friends (Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams) join her, she had giant video screens with them dancing and singing in the background - a fun and exciting touch (even though I think everyone was secretly hoping they would make a cameo appearance).

Before the finale, she took requests and wound up playing a bit of "Express Yourself" with the help of the audience. The concert was one of the best I've ever seen, and despite the absence of oldies but goodies ("Like A Virgin" and "Holiday" to name a few of her 39 US number one hits), the show was exciting and action packed.

Madonna will always be a favorite of mine, after all, she helped us bring Katie Sugar into the world, and judging from the star-studded audience (Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, Fergie - and I even bumped into Katy Perry and Mika on my way to the loo), she will continue to be infinitely popular and respected among her peers and the public for years to come.
