Gothic Lolita? That look is soooo last century. In Japan, the latest thing among trendy young women is to look like living dolls.

"Color plays center stage in my collections," says Michelle Smith, and now, the designer of Milly has something playful, chic, and bright to offer up for her second collaboration with Clinique.
The Milly For Clinique 8-Piece Gift is full of skin and makeup favorites, all packaged up in Milly's floral foldover clutch bag, which to me has somewhat of a retro, Miami-glamour kind of vibe. Free with any Clinique purchase of $25 or more, the vividly-hued bag of goodies is available at Bloomingdales exclusively from Feb.

When you think of Mardi Gras, beads and parades may come to mind, but the holiday is a big deal in lots of places oceans away from New Orleans. In other places, the lead up to Mardi Gras is known as Carnival, so the worldwide celebrations from Rio to Venice are actually the same party. Whatever you call it, though, this week is the world's time for some of the most fabulous makeup, hair, and costuming you'll see all year.

To quote the immortal lyricists of Def Leppard, love bites — and sometimes it leaves a mark. With Valentine's Day coming up, it seemed like the right time to revisit that teenage rite of passage: the hickey. My friend recently got one from a makeout sesh and was none too happy about it, which inspired me to pass along some nibble-hiding makeup tips.

My friend will still never let me live down the time I reached for my lip liner for an impromptu makeup touchup in an elevator. The problem? This particular elevator did not happen to have a mirror, and I'd inadvertently grabbed my black eyeliner instead.

Whether you read about a new trend in a magazine or listened intently as a makeup artist doled out tips at the department store counter, I'm sure at some point or another you've received some pretty terrible makeup advice. Someone once told me that you should actually use an undereye concealer in a shade darker than your skin tone, the theory being that since the skin is usually darker in that area, deeper-toned coverage is more appropriate. Epic fail.

Last month, I asked you whether or not you paint your face at sports events. Most of you gave me a resounding no. But now that the mother of all sporting events, the Super Bowl, is going down this Sunday, perhaps you'll be channeling your inner artist.

Here's an excerpt from OnSugar blog icyabstract:
I hardly show pictures/footage of myself with glasses because I seldom wear them out of the house unless I am too lazy to be bothered or if I am going somewhere nearby. Don't get me wrong; I don't see anything wrong with glasses nor do I hate them. I just feel that with glasses on I don't usually do very much with my makeup.

What do Queen Victoria, the Italian prime minister, and time travelers have in common? They're all the inspiration behind this year's achievement in makeup category for the 2010 Oscars, for which the nominees were announced this morning. I'm always a sucker for the best actress, picture, and costume design categories, but thanks to the Bella side of me, it's this little-discussed category that captures my attention.
