Her eye makeup, which made her eyes look incredibly bright and clear, was especially nice. Jennifer Aniston may have skipped the red carpet at the Oscars, but she shone on stage. Leave it to Jen to have a simple but glamorous hairstyle, along with a sun-kissed face shown off by a genuine smile. "She is the quintessential California glamour girl," says makeup artist Angela Levin. "She was radiant as always on Oscar night."

Skin: After moisturizing Jennifer's skin, Levin applied Chanel Lift Lumiere foundation in Beige, concealing undereye circles with the matching concealer. Instead of blush, she dabbed Hydrabase lipstick in Coco Red on the apples of Jennifer's cheeks. After that, she dotted Sheer Brilliance in Sunkissed around the tops of Jen's cheekbones. (This captures light with a slight shimmer.) A bit of powder bronzer gave Jen a sunny glow.
Eyes: Jen wore Lorac eye shadows in Jade (green) and Serenity (bronze), along with Tina Earnshaw shadow in Aubergine. She closely lined the top and bottom lashes with black eye shadow. A coat of Chanel Inimitable mascara in black finished the look.
Lips: Lucky Jen got a preview of Chanel's forthcoming Aqualumiere Lipshine in Panarea. Get a similar look with a deep rose, creamy lipstick or Chanel's Aqualumiere in Yucatan.

Australian Schools Let Companies "Teach" Makeup

I know that marketing in schools is nothing new, but a program in Australia is taking things to a new level. A program called Fashion Roll Call, which is sponsored in part by makeup brand NP Set Cosmetics, is touring all-girl schools around the country. Their goal is to educate girls in fashion and beauty industry careers by presenting a "lunch-time fashion parade" followed by makeup application tutorials taught by makeup artists who work for NP Set.

When I was 13, I probably would have been excited for this, since it means no class and playing with stuff my parents wouldn't let me wear. But as an adult, I have mixed feelings. The cosmetics brand is getting choice branding access to kids in exchange for a few makeup tips. And since this program is being billed as educational, and intended to teach children about the fashion and beauty industries, why no boys or coed schools? There are tons of men in the fashion and beauty industries, and their absence suggests that the informational element here is a thin veneer to make aggressive marketing more palatable. Halloween How-To: David Bowie

If you're in the mood for a truly rock-and-roll costume, people don't come much cooler than David Bowie. The androgynous, glam-rock look of his Aladdin Sane years takes a bit of energy to pull off, but it's worth the effort. MAC senior makeup artist Louise Zizzo, who did the Jem makeup tutorial, shows us how to get this space-rocker look.

Brows: Louise used glue stick to tame the eyebrows and to prepare them to be covered with concealer.
Face: Contour the face with powder blush in Raizin or Fleur Power. Use a fluffy brush to give skin an airbrushed effect.
Design: Sketch the design with a light brow pencil. Louise used Chromacake to fill in the red and blue, but you can get a similar look with other products. Try the red part of Danger Zone eye shadow or red lipstick (just blot loose powder on top to set the color). For the blue portion of the face, Freshwater eye shadow should work. Using an angled brush like the excellent 266 brush, define the line with Fluidline in Blacktrack.
Lips: Use fingers to dab red lipstick on the lips, focusing in the middle portion. The idea is to add a hint of color without covering the lips entirely.

This Makeup DVD Will Have You Looking Fine

Team Bella loves Sam Fine, and not just because he's a top makeup artist who's worked with some seriously bold-faced names (Halle, Beyonce, Tyra, among many others). Nope, we love him because he's happy to share his expertise in a friendly, easy-to-digest way. In his just-released DVD, Fine: The Basics of Beauty ($24.99), Fine teaches makeup basics through a series of makeovers and tutorials. Here's a preview.
