Rihanna rolled up to the Grammys rocking this cream, black, and green manicure that, upon closer inspection, turns out to be US currency. It's fun and unexpected, and being the nail-painting lazybones that I am, it appeals because you don't actually have to do much. So I set out to re-create her look with just some nail scissors, a base coat, top coat, and a fake dollar bill from a kiddie money play set.

Manicures? What manicures? At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, more than a dozen stars showed up with barely anything — if anything — on their nails.

Minx manicures, the metallic-colored professional-only nail wraps, are becoming more popular thanks to celebrities like Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Kelly Clarkson. Most recently, at an LA Lakers game, Hayden Panettiere wore a gold foil manicure. Seeing her auriferous manicure got me to thinking that perhaps I should try my hand at sporting some Minx, and according to the brand's website, the nearest salon is a just a mere .2 miles away from my apartment.

It seems like you can't walk through a mall these days without someone trying to check out your nails. You know what I mean, right? All you're trying to do is go get an Auntie Anne's pretzel, when you're accosted by a mall-kiosk clerk with a magical $50 buffing system.

I've been completely addicted to Manicure's Best Friend from Bliss (on sale now for £7.50) ever since my best friend introduced me this tiny, yet precious cuticle cream a couple of weeks ago. It's been my saving grace for dry, swollen, red cuticles and it's amazing how much it prolongs the life of my manicures — I'm talking three, maybe even four days!
Maybe you don't pick and peel like I do, but after doing dishes and chores regularly, my cuticles tend to become cracked and straggly.

Earlier this year, nearly 70 percent of you told me that you bite your cuticles. I have a confession. During particularly nervous moments, I sometimes do a little chomping myself.

How important is a manicure to you? For some friends, like PartySugar at Yum, having polished nails is a beauty necessity. (She does a DIY manicure every Wednesday.) But you might be surprised to find out that as much as I like the idea of manicures, I usually don't have painted nails.

Toluene, formaldehyde, and dibutyl phthalate — all chemicals considered dangerous for our bodies and the environment, and yet they are still found in many nail products. Sophie Uliano is the author of Gorgeously Green: 8 Simple Steps to an Earth-Friendly Life ($15.25), where she discusses everything from choosing an earth-friendly lipstick to preparing eco-conscious treats.
Last year, Uliano appeared on Oprah with her friend Julia Roberts to celebrate Earth Day.
