I have been watching people at the gym and doing this I have realized that a lot of people simply hop on a piece of cardio equipment and press "quick start" and go. I am guessing this is because they don't want to mess with all the other functions. So I am curious which mode you usually choose...

There are very few things geekier than user manuals: They house loads of secrets, tips and tricks that techie freaks like myself pride ourselves on knowing. But what do old manuals say about a company like Apple, which has rose to iconic status since the release of its first official manual? A man named Peter Merholz recently purchased an original Macintosh user manual from eBay and posted the pages online for the whole world to reminisce and drool over.

The standing joke about wishing kids came with a manual is funny when you're on the outside, but once you have children the notion is all too real. Father and author Joe Borgenicht teamed up with his own dad, pediatrician Dr. Louis Borgenicht, and a group of other experts to create a series of Owner's Manual books with step-by-step parental instructions and schematic diagrams.

Exactly two hundred years ago today (can you believe it?), the first manual typewriter was invented by Italian entrepreneur Pellegrini Turri. It's fascinating how far the typewriter has evolved over the years — from the manual typewriter to electrical typewriter, and eventually word processors to now personal computers! Who were the ones delivering the goods?

I have always had a fondness for vintage typewriters, but I can't imagine paying the price for an authentic antique (they can go from anywhere between $100 and $2,000!).
This Olivetti manual typewriter ($125) is a nice compromise. The brand has been around since the early 1900s and this portable style is the very last manual typewriter in production today.

There are instruction manuals for almost everything these days — whether it's how to install your DVD player or how to wash your intimates — so wouldn't it make sense for people to come with them too? Of course some enjoy the thrill of feeling each other out the old-fashioned way, but do tell, if your new crush came with an instruction manual, do you think it would save you a lot of time and aggravation in the getting-to-know-you stage, or do you feel that there's no such thing as the "right way" when it comes to matters of the heart?

Since it's getting chilly out, walking or running outside may seem less and less appealing. You can buy an expensive motorized treadmill or spend lots of money on a gym membership, but if you want a cheaper or greener option, a manual treadmill may be just the thing you're looking for.
These treadmills have no motor and use no electricity.

I was buying a birthday card at Papyrus recently when a pair of slim pink legs caught my eye. I had to investigate. The Bombshell Manual of Style by Laren Stover ($13) is a lighthearted read for any gal who is a bombshell or wants to become one.

Somehow I feel like you guys are not going to love this tip, but I am going to throw it out there anyway.
Don't use your remote control [gasp]. That's right, get up and manually change the channels on your TV.
